(September 8th) The work is done, the final preparations are underway, and an international field of unbeaten prospects, dangerous punchers and experienced veterans is ready for battle this Friday, September 11, when BiYu Promotions and Shuan Boxing present “Dominican Fight Night” at Coliseo Carlos “Teo” Cruz in Santo Domingo.

The event will feature a deep lineup of professional boxing talent, with fighters from the Dominican Republic and abroad putting unbeaten records, knockout power and career momentum on the line. The entire event will be broadcast live worldwide on CombatVisionTV, giving boxing fans around the globe an opportunity to watch the action from Santo Domingo.

At the top of the card is an intriguing 10-round super welterweight main event between undefeated Dominican Rafael Abreu (12-0, 11 KOs) and battle-tested Fernando Montes de Oca (33-3, 20 KOs).

Abreu has established himself as one of the Dominican Republic’s most promising young fighters, stopping 11 of his first 12 professional opponents. Now, he faces a major test against Montes de Oca, a veteran with 36 professional fights and 20 victories inside the distance.

For Abreu, the matchup represents a significant step forward and an opportunity to demonstrate that his development extends well beyond his impressive knockout record.

“This camp has been about becoming a more complete fighter,” said Abreu. “Everyone sees the 11 knockouts, but I don’t go into the ring thinking that I have to knock everybody out. We worked on my conditioning, defense, movement, combinations and staying disciplined round after round. I’ve pushed myself hard because I know this is the biggest challenge of my professional career. I want to show people that there is much more to Rafael Abreu than punching power.”

Abreu understands that Montes de Oca brings a level of professional experience he has not previously encountered, but he believes the challenge comes at exactly the right time in his career.

“I’m in a tough fight with Montes de Oca,” Abreu said. “He has experience that I haven’t faced before, and that motivates me. I asked for opportunities that can move my career forward, and now I have one. This is a 10-round fight, and I’m prepared to box, fight or do whatever is necessary to win. I want everyone watching to see that I’m ready for the next level.”

Montes de Oca will enter the ring with an opportunity to halt Abreu’s unbeaten run, and his experience and punching power make him far more than simply a veteran opponent brought in to test a young prospect.

The main event is just one of several fights on a card designed to give rising fighters meaningful opportunities.

Unbeaten welterweights Feudri Franco (7-0, 6 KOs) and Junior Desir (7-0-1, 5 KOs) will meet in a scheduled eight-round contest, with both fighters putting undefeated records on the line. Franco has stopped six of his first seven opponents, while Desir brings five knockouts into the matchup.

Two unbeaten fighters, both eager to take the next step, will meet in a fight that could provide an important indication of where each stands within a competitive welterweight division.

Another rising welterweight will face a considerable test when Pryce Sparrow (6-0, 4 KOs) takes on veteran Oliver Flores (31-7-3, 20 KOs) in an eight-round contest.

Sparrow has made a strong start to his professional career, but Flores brings years of experience and a record built against considerably more seasoned opposition. For Sparrow, the fight provides an opportunity to demonstrate that he is ready to handle the challenges that come with stepping up in competition.

Unbeaten super featherweight Eliesel Rodriguez Ledesma (9-0-2, 8 KOs) will also face a significant assignment when he meets Jorge Santana (16-2, 9 KOs) in an eight-round bout.

Ledesma has established himself as an aggressive and powerful young fighter, but his latest training camp has focused on developing patience, discipline and a more complete approach to his craft.

“I had a very strong training camp, and I feel like I improved in a lot of areas,” said Ledesma. “We worked on being patient, setting up my punches and not looking for the knockout. I know I have power, but as the competition gets better, you have to use your intelligence along with your physical ability. I’m feeling strong, fast and focused, and I’m ready to show the work we put in.”

Santana’s 16-2 record gives Ledesma another opportunity to prove that he is prepared for increasingly difficult opposition.

“Santana is a good fighter, with a good record,” Ledesma continued. “That’s what I want. I want opponents who make me raise my level. I’m not taking anything for granted because every fight is important, especially at this stage of my career. My job is to stay disciplined, listen to my corner and take control of the fight. I believe in my ability, and on Friday night I want to show why BiYu Promotions believes in me.”

The cruiserweight division will provide one of the card’s most explosive matchups when undefeated Starlyn Guzman (5-0, 5 KOs) faces Jankelly Rodriguez Paulino (5-1, 5 KOs) in a scheduled six-round contest.

Every professional victory for both fighters has come by knockout, giving the matchup a combined 10 knockouts in 10 victories.

Despite his perfect knockout ratio, Guzman has prepared for six hard rounds rather than assuming the fight will end early.

“I had a hard camp because I know what kind of fight this can become,” said Guzman. “I’ve won all five of my fights by knockout, but I never train expecting a fight to end early. I trained for all six rounds at a high pace. We worked on my conditioning, my jab, defense and being smart with my power. I feel stronger and more prepared than I have for any of my previous fights.”

Guzman is fully aware that Rodriguez Paulino possesses dangerous power of his own.

“Paulino can punch, and his record proves that,” Guzman said. “But I believe in my power, and I believe in my boxing ability. This fight is about being smart and not making mistakes just because both of us can punch. I’m not going to chase a knockout. I’m going to establish myself, make him respect me and let the fight develop. If the knockout comes, I’ll be ready to take advantage of it.”

Unbeaten featherweight Angel Rodriguez (5-0, 3 KOs) will look to continue his perfect professional start against Nayer Gonzalez Jimenez (3-1, 3 KOs) in a scheduled six-round contest.

Rodriguez remains in the early stages of his career, but his latest training camp has been focused on continuing to develop every part of his game.

“I’m still learning every day, and that’s what I enjoy about boxing,” Rodriguez said. “This camp was very productive. We worked on my speed, combinations, defense, footwork and conditioning. I’m undefeated, but I know 5-0 is only the beginning. There is a lot I still want to accomplish, so I approach every day in the gym like I have something to prove.”

Gonzalez Jimenez has recorded three knockouts in his three professional victories, giving Rodriguez another opponent he cannot afford to overlook.

“Jimenez has power, so I have to be alert and disciplined from the opening bell,” Rodriguez said. “You can’t overlook anyone in boxing, especially someone who has knocked out every opponent he has beaten. I’m going to use my skills, stay composed and fight my fight. I want to keep my undefeated record, but more importantly, I want people to watch me and see improvement every time I step into the ring.”

For BiYu Promotions, the event represents an important opportunity to showcase four of its Dominican fighters on the same international platform. Abreu, Rodriguez Ledesma, Guzman and Angel Rodriguez have all built unbeaten professional records while developing under the BiYu Promotions banner.

For Bobby Harrison, President of BiYu Promotions, the goal is not simply to keep young fighters busy, but to put them in situations that reveal where they stand and prepare them for bigger opportunities.

“This is an important night for BiYu Promotions because we’re showcasing four of our signed fighters from the Dominican Republic on the same card,” Harrison said. “We believe there is tremendous boxing talent in the Dominican Republic, and these young men have the ability, hunger and work ethic to become something special. Our responsibility is to help develop them, put them in meaningful fights and create opportunities for them to show what they can do. September 11 is a big step in that process.”

Harrison believes the matchmaking on the card will provide valuable information about the fighters involved.

“These aren’t fights where we’re just putting our guys in the ring to get another win,” Harrison said. “Abreu is fighting a man with 33 victories. Ledesma has a tough opponent in Santana. Guzman is facing another dangerous puncher, and Angel is fighting a young guy who has knocked out everyone he has beaten. These are the types of matchups that tell you something about a fighter.”

Harrison also believes young fighters ultimately have to accept risk if they want to discover how far their careers can go.

“At some point, you have to take that chance,” Harrison continued. “You can’t call yourself the best if you’re not willing to fight guys who believe they can beat you. That’s what I respect about these fighters. They’re taking real fights. There are going to be some nerves, there’s going to be pressure, and that’s part of it. Those are the moments when you learn something about a fighter. We want to give them the platform, and then it’s up to them to make the most of it.”

The event is also an important collaboration between BiYu Promotions and Shuan Boxing, led by President Belgica Peña, as the two promotional organizations bring an international boxing showcase to the Dominican Republic.

“Boxing means a lot to people here in the Dominican Republic,” said Peña. “There are so many talented fighters who just need the right opportunity for people to see them. That’s why I’m happy to be working with Bobby Harrison, BiYu Promotions and CombatVisionTV on this event. We have young fighters trying to build their names, unbeaten prospects taking risks and veterans who know every trick in the book. That’s a fun combination for the fans.”

Peña believes the worldwide broadcast will provide international viewers with an opportunity to experience the passion surrounding Dominican boxing.

“We want people watching around the world to feel some of the energy that we feel here,” Peña added. “These fighters are hungry. Their families, trainers and teams have sacrificed with them to get to this point. When they step into that ring, it means something. I think the fans are going to see that.”

The remainder of the card provides plenty of additional opportunities for prospects and veterans.

Unbeaten super welterweight Miguel Angel Arias (7-0, 7 KOs) will put his perfect record and 100-percent knockout ratio on the line against Jose Manuel Perez (6-1, 4 KOs) in an eight-round contest.

Jose Luis De Los Santos Feliz (5-0) will face experienced veteran Eliezer Aquino (23-5-1) in an eight-round super bantamweight bout, while Yan Carlos Perez (8-1) meets Juan Alcantara Sanchez (12-10-2) in another eight-round super bantamweight contest.

Unbeaten welterweights Carlos Johnson (3-0) and Kermin Jimenez (3-0) will square off over six rounds, putting two perfect records on the line in one of the card’s intriguing early-career matchups.

In the super bantamweight division, Keuryn Alcantara (2-0) will take on veteran Wallington Orobio (20-15) over six rounds.

Yankiel Rivera Figueroa (7-1-1) will face Francisco Vargas Martinez (5-10) in a scheduled six-round flyweight contest, while veteran super featherweights Michael Chaise Nelson (23-4-1) and Misael Vasquez (18-7-1) will meet over eight rounds.

Bryan Santos Mendez (2-0) will look for his third professional victory against Juan Carlos Constanza (0-2) in a six-round super featherweight bout, while Luis Rosario Villafane (16-1-1) faces Jose Rodriguez Lora (11-6) in another six-round super featherweight contest.

The current event listing also includes Vivian Bianelis Rodriguez (9-1) against Zuliana Mendoza (5-5-1) in an eight-round featherweight bout, adding another matchup between fighters looking to make an impact on the international stage.
