Mauricio Lara Back In Action
Against Carlos Ornelas In Guadalajara On August 29!
(July 29th) Mauricio Lara continues his road to becoming a two-weight World champion when he takes on Carlos Ornelas in an all-Mexico main event at Complejo Deportivo Artes Marciales in Guadalajara on Saturday August 29, live worldwide on DAZN.
Lara (30-3-2 23 KOs) is ready to step on the gas in his bid to claim a Super-Featherweight World title and will be on the hunt for a fifth win inside the distance on the trot. ‘El Bronco’ became WBA Featherweight champion in 2023 when he knocked out Leigh Wood in Nottingham, England – a second stunning KO win in Britain after he shocked the boxing world with his demolition of Josh Warrington two years earlier.
Ornelas (29-5 16 KOs) is the latest man to look to halt Lara’s train, and ‘Chinito’ can get himself into the picture for the big fights at 130lbs, and returned to winning ways earlier this year in February with a second round stoppage in Baja California, bouncing back from a defeat in April last year to now World champion Abdullah Mason in Las Vegas.
“I’m thrilled to come back to a DAZN boxing card, alongside BXSTRS and Matchroom,” said Lara, who meets Ornelas over ten rounds. “Like I’ve said before, ‘Bronco’ Lara is back.
“I will show the world why I once was world champion and that I am ready for any 130lb fighter. It’s been three years since I lost my title, so I am focused in becoming World champion again. Matchroom and BXSTRS have done good in giving me another shot on August 29 in Guadalajara, and I’ll repay them with an exciting performance.”
"Thank you to Matchroom and BXSTRS for the opportunity,” said Ornales. “I'm sending Bronco into retirement.”
“It’s great to be back in Mexico, and to have Bronco headlining live on DAZN once again,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Our Mexico shows always guarantee excitement, and when you put Mauricio on the top of a card, that only adds to the fireworks. The 130lbs division is stacked with great fighters, and you can certainly put Mauricio right in there with the best of them with another win on August 29.”
Information on the undercard and ticket on sale dates will follow in due course.

About Matchroom Boxing
After the success of snooker in the 1980s, Matchroom Sport moved into boxing with two small hall shows followed by Frank Bruno v Joe Bugner at Tottenham Hotspur’s ground – the biggest boxing event of 1987. That launched the company into the boxing big-time, a position it has maintained ever since.
Through the 1990s Matchroom Sport’s boxing roster featured many of the biggest names in the sport including Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Naseem Hamed, all in world title fights and it continues to work with some of the biggest names in UK boxing including Audley Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Super-Heavyweight gold medalist.
Over the years, Matchroom Sport has built up long-standing relationships with broadcasters around the world and with the advent of the Prizefighter phenomenon, the company’s boxing division has never been in a stronger position.
From fantastic six round scraps between the sport’s journeymen, up to multi-million-dollar World Championship contests featuring the above fighters, the Pro Box series has it all. Each show is packed with the very best in boxing action in a series that encompasses almost 25 years of Matchroom Sport’s commitment to bringing the highest quality to the global television market.
