MVP's Lucas Bahdi Faces Floyd Schofield
For WBA 135 World Title - October 10!
(August 27th) Undefeated lightweight contenders Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield and Lucas “Prince” Bahdi will put their perfect professional records on the line when they collide for the vacant WBA Lightweight World Championship on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. The 12-round championship showdown headlines a major Golden Boy Promotions event in co-promotion with Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and will be available live worldwide on DAZN.
Schofield, 19-0 with 13 knockouts, enters the biggest fight of his young career as one of the lightweight division’s most highly regarded unbeaten contenders. The 24-year-old Austin, Texas-based fighter has built his reputation on speed, athleticism, versatility and an aggressive style that has produced 13 stoppages in 19 professional victories. Schofield is coming off the biggest win of his career, a stunning first-round stoppage of former two-time world champion Tevin Farmer at Honda Center in Anaheim. The victory further elevated “Kid Austin” as a legitimate contender and positioned him for his long-awaited opportunity to challenge for a world championship.
Schofield began his professional career in October 2020 with a first-round knockout of Richard Esquibel and continued his rise through the lightweight ranks. In November 2024, he captured the WBA International Lightweight Championship with a unanimous decision over Rene Giron, overcoming an 11th-round knockdown to finish strongly and secure the victory. Now, with an unbeaten record and a world title opportunity directly in front of him, Schofield will look to turn his potential into championship gold in Chicago.
Standing across the ring will be Niagara Falls, Ontario’s Bahdi, another undefeated lightweight contender who has established himself as one of Canada’s most dangerous young boxing talents. Bahdi enters the championship fight with a 20-0 record and 15 knockouts, giving him an impressive 75 percent knockout rate. The 32-year-old orthodox fighter has remained unbeaten since making his professional debut in 2019 and has steadily climbed the lightweight rankings with a combination of power, experience and composure.
Bahdi announced himself on the international stage with a spectacular knockout of previously unbeaten Ashton Sylve in July 2024, a performance that earned widespread recognition as one of the year’s most impressive stoppages. He followed that victory with decision wins over Armando Casamonica and Ryan James Racaza before defeating former world champion Roger Gutiérrez by unanimous decision in a WBA lightweight title eliminator in August 2025. Bahdi dropped Gutiérrez in the sixth round and secured his position as a leading contender, ultimately earning the opportunity to fight for the WBA championship.
The stakes could hardly be higher. With the WBA lightweight championship vacant, the October 10 main event will crown a new world champion at 135 pounds. Both fighters enter unbeaten, meaning that, barring a draw or no contest, one man will leave Chicago with the first professional defeat on his record while the other will realize the dream of becoming a world champion. Golden Boy’s official event listing confirms the bout as a 12-round WBA lightweight championship contest.
The Schofield-Bahdi championship clash will headline a two-title world championship doubleheader in Chicago. In the co-main event, unified WBA and WBC Flyweight World Champion Ricardo “El Niño” Sandoval, 27-2 with 18 knockouts, will defend his titles against Puerto Rico’s unbeaten Oscar “El Pupilo” Collazo, 15-0 with 12 knockouts. Collazo, a former unified minimumweight world champion, will move up two weight classes to challenge Sandoval in another 12-round championship showdown.
For Schofield and Bahdi, however, the spotlight belongs squarely to the lightweight championship. Schofield brings the confidence of a young contender who believes he is ready to break through at the highest level, while Bahdi arrives with the experience and punching power of a fighter who has spent years building toward precisely this opportunity. Their contrasting paths have led to the same destination: 12 rounds, one vacant world championship and a chance to establish themselves among the elite of the 135-pound division.
“I’ve worked my whole life for an opportunity like this, and I’m just one fight away from accomplishing my dream of becoming a world champion,” Schofield said in the event announcement. “On October 10, it’s time to settle everything inside the ring and show the world that I belong at the top of the lightweight division. I’m coming to put on a show and leave Chicago as a world champion.”
The championship event will take place at Wintrust Arena, located at 200 E. Cermak Road in Chicago. The venue’s official event listing currently schedules the event for Saturday, October 10, with doors/event timing subject to change. Tickets are on sale to the general public, while Golden Boy and Wintrust Arena identify DAZN as the platform for the worldwide broadcast.
When the opening bell sounds, two undefeated fighters will enter the ring with everything they have built on the line. Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield has the opportunity to fulfill his world championship ambitions on one of boxing’s biggest stages, while Lucas “Prince” Bahdi has the chance to complete his own long journey from unbeaten Canadian prospect to WBA lightweight world champion. By the end of the night, Chicago will have a new 135-pound king.
