Claressa Shields Returns To Middleweight To Challenge Unified Champion Kaye Scott On August 15th In Atlanta!

(June 24th) Claressa Shields will return to the middleweight division on Saturday, August 15, when she challenges unified WBC and WBA Middleweight World Champion, Kaye Scott in a scheduled 10-round championship bout at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The event will stream live worldwide on DAZN beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Promoted by Salita Promotions in association with Claressa Shields Promotions, Route 30 Promotions and Wynn Records, the event marks Shields’ first professional appearance in Atlanta and represents a significant showcase for women’s boxing in one of the United States’ largest sports markets.

The 31-year-old, Shields, 18-0, 3Ko’s, a two-time Olympic gold medalist from Flint, Michigan, enters the contest as one of the most accomplished fighters in boxing history. Known as “T-Rex,” Shields became the first boxer, male or female, to achieve undisputed championship status in three weight divisions during the four-belt era. Her career includes undisputed reigns at middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight, while her recent campaigns have seen her compete at heavyweight.

The August 15 bout marks Shields’ return to the 160-pound division, where she previously enjoyed some of the greatest success of her career. In October 2022, Shields defeated Savannah Marshall to become the undisputed middleweight champion, cementing her legacy as the division’s dominant figure. Now, after spending her last four contests above middleweight, Shields faces the challenge of moving back down in weight against an active unified champion.

Standing opposite her will be Sydney, New South Wales, 42-year-old, Kaye Scott, 5-1-1, the reigning WBC and WBA Middleweight World Champion. Scott built an impressive amateur résumé that included multiple international medals before turning professional in late 2023. Her rise through the professional ranks has been swift, progressing from regional titleholder to unified world champion in just over two years.

Scott captured the unified WBC and WBA middleweight championships with a victory over Olivia Curry in their December 20, 2025 rematch. While still relatively inexperienced as a professional, Scott enters the biggest fight of her career carrying championship momentum and the confidence of a fighter who has rapidly established herself among the division’s elite.

Stylistically, the matchup presents an intriguing contrast. Shields is widely regarded for her exceptional ring IQ, technical versatility, positional control and ability to make adjustments against elite opposition. Throughout her championship career, she has consistently demonstrated the ability to neutralize opponents’ strengths through disciplined jab work, intelligent foot positioning and sustained offensive pressure.

Scott, meanwhile, brings physical strength, determination and the confidence of an active titleholder. Her most effective path may involve applying pressure, targeting the body and attempting to disrupt Shields’ rhythm early. The Australian champion will look to capitalize on any effects of Shields’ move back down to middleweight after competing at significantly higher weights in recent years.

For Shields, controlling distance and dictating tempo will be critical. If she can establish her jab, maintain angles and force Scott into a tactical contest, her experience at the highest levels of the sport could prove decisive. Scott’s chances increase if she can make the fight physical, crowd Shields on the inside and create uncomfortable exchanges during the middle rounds.

Beyond the championship stakes, the event carries broader significance for women’s boxing. Shields has previously demonstrated major drawing power in her hometown of Detroit, headlining multiple successful events at Little Caesars Arena. The August 15 card represents an opportunity to expand that success into a new market while further strengthening the commercial growth of women’s boxing in the United States.

On paper, Shields enters as the favorite due to her championship pedigree, depth of experience and proven ability against elite competition. However, Scott’s status as a reigning unified champion and her recent success at middleweight ensure that the bout presents a genuine challenge rather than a routine title opportunity.

The result will have significant implications for the future of the middleweight division and the continued evolution of women’s championship boxing.

Salita Promotions: Founded in 2010 by former world-title challenger Dmitriy Salita, Salita Promotions has evolved from a grassroots endeavor into a powerhouse of the American boxing landscape. Born from Salita’s firsthand experience in the ring, the company was built on a singular mission: to provide a bridge for elite prospects to cross over into world championship status. Over the last decade, the firm has become synonymous with the "renaissance" of the sport in the Midwest, particularly in the boxing stronghold of Detroit.

Salita’s reputation is rooted in an uncanny ability to identify raw potential and curate it for the global stage. The promotional house famously steered the careers of heavyweight contenders Jarrell Miller and Otto Wallin, elevating them from regional prospects to headliners in some of the division's biggest international clashes. Today, the company continues this tradition through Big Time Boxing USA, a developmental series broadcast on DAZN. The platform has filled a critical industry void, providing rising stars with the television exposure and high-level opposition necessary to build a sustainable fanbase.

Perhaps Salita’s most enduring legacy is its role as the premier advocate for women’s boxing. By signing and meticulously promoting Claressa "The GWOAT" Shields, the company didn't just manage an athlete; it moved an entire industry. Salita was instrumental in securing historic, multi-million dollar deals for Shields, including the groundbreaking 2025 partnership with Wynn Records. This $8 million venture represents a new industry model, fusing high-stakes pugilism with music and mainstream culture to amplify the profiles of female fighters beyond the traditional sports pages.

Beyond the ring, Salita Promotions is a leader in media-forward strategy. By leveraging strategic partnerships and a robust digital presence, the company ensures its fighters remain culturally relevant in an era of rapidly changing media consumption. Whether revitalizing historic venues like Detroit’s Fox Theatre or launching innovative cross-industry collaborations, the firm remains committed to expanding the sport’s visibility.

Today, Salita Promotions stands as a testament to the power of a "fighter-first" philosophy. With a diverse roster spanning multiple weight classes and a commitment to the growth of the global boxing community, Dmitriy Salita continues to prove that with the right platform, any prospect can become a pioneer.
