Monte-Carlo Showdown VII Card Confirmed

As George Liddard Lands World Title Shot!

(October 17th) The glitz, glamour, and championship boxing tradition of Monte-Carlo will provide the spectacular backdrop for an intriguing collision of youth and experience when undefeated British middleweight sensation George Liddard (15-0, 9 KOs) challenges battle-tested French veteran and reigning International Boxing Organization (IBO) World Middleweight Champion Michel Soro (39-4-2, 28 KOs) in the headline attraction of Monte-Carlo Showdown VII, scheduled for Saturday, December 12, 2026, at the prestigious Salle des Étoiles, Sporting Monte-Carlo, in Monaco.

Promoted by Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing in partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, the highly anticipated championship encounter will headline an outstanding international fight card broadcast live worldwide on DAZN, bringing another chapter of world-class boxing to one of the sport's most glamorous destinations.

For the 24-year-old Liddard, the opportunity represents the biggest challenge of his rapidly ascending professional career and a chance to transform his growing reputation as one of Britain's most exciting middleweight prospects into world championship recognition. For the 38-year-old Soro, the contest offers an opportunity to defend his hard-earned championship against a hungry, undefeated challenger while demonstrating that nearly two decades of professional experience remain a formidable advantage inside the squared circle.

The compelling matchup features two orthodox fighters separated by 14 years in age and a remarkable 30 professional contests. Liddard enters the championship showdown having completed 15 professional bouts and 82 rounds, while Soro brings the knowledge accumulated through 45 professional appearances and 263 rounds of competition. Their combined professional records account for 54 victories, including 37 by knockout, setting the stage for a fascinating confrontation between the relentless ambition of a rising star and the calculated craftsmanship of an established international campaigner.

Born on May 30, 2002, in Billericay, Essex, England, the 5-foot-10 Liddard has established himself as one of the brightest emerging talents in Britain's competitive middleweight division. Fighting from an orthodox stance and guided by respected trainer Tony Sims, the unbeaten Englishman made his professional debut on November 26, 2022, defeating Nikola Matic by technical knockout and beginning an impressive journey through the professional ranks.

Since that successful introduction, Liddard has steadily developed his skills, confidence, and championship credentials, combining intelligent pressure, crisp combinations, accurate punching, and an increasingly effective finishing instinct. With nine stoppages in 15 victories, he possesses a 60 percent knockout-to-victory ratio, reflecting a fighter equally comfortable breaking down opponents over the distance or capitalizing on opportunities to end matters early.

His breakthrough on the British championship scene arrived on October 17, 2025, when he defeated experienced contender Kieron Conway by tenth-round technical knockout to capture the British and Commonwealth middleweight championships. The impressive performance announced his arrival among Britain's leading domestic middleweights and provided the foundation for his subsequent rise toward European and international recognition.

Liddard's two most recent appearances have further strengthened his credentials as a legitimate world championship challenger.

On March 21, 2026, he successfully defended his British and Commonwealth middleweight titles against former European champion Tyler Denny, producing a disciplined performance over 12 rounds to secure a unanimous decision victory. The contest demonstrated his stamina, composure, and ability to maintain his effectiveness throughout a championship-distance encounter against a seasoned opponent.

Five months later, on August 22, 2026, Liddard delivered another statement performance, defeating Italy's Dario Morello to capture the vacant European middleweight championship at London's Copper Box Arena.

Facing a technically capable Italian contender, Liddard applied sustained pressure, mixed his attacks effectively between head and body, and gradually imposed his authority. His persistence paid dividends in the eighth round when he sent Morello to the canvas. With the Italian bloodied and increasingly overwhelmed, Morello's corner withdrew its fighter following the completion of the round, handing Liddard an eighth-round retirement victory and the prestigious European championship.

The triumph elevated Liddard's professional record to a perfect 15-0, with nine knockouts, and completed an impressive progression through the British, Commonwealth, and European championship levels.

Now, with those accomplishments behind him, the ambitious Essex fighter is preparing to take the most significant step of his professional journey by challenging for his first world championship.

However, standing between Liddard and the IBO middleweight crown is an exceptionally experienced opponent who has spent much of his career competing against internationally respected opposition.

Born Michel Abou Lessonguy Soro on October 30, 1987, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, the 5-foot-10½ French international has built an accomplished professional career spanning more than 18 years. Based in Villeurbanne, near Lyon, France, the orthodox boxer possesses a 70-inch reach and has compiled an impressive record of 39 victories, four defeats, and two draws, with 28 wins coming by knockout.

Soro began his professional career on October 2, 2008, defeating Said Moulkraloua by technical knockout. Over the years, he developed into a highly respected contender at both super welterweight and middleweight, earning recognition for his technical proficiency, accurate combinations, durability, and ability to compete against world-class opposition.

His extensive championship résumé includes winning the European middleweight championship in June 2015 with a knockout victory over Emanuele Blandamura in Milan, Italy, along with securing various regional and international titles during his lengthy professional career.

Soro has also shared the ring with several prominent names in international boxing, including former world champion Brian Castaño, former world champion Israil Madrimov, former WBO super welterweight champion Zaurbek Baysangurov, and Russian contender Magomed Kurbanov.

In July 2017, Soro challenged Argentina's Brian Castaño for the interim WBA World Super Welterweight Championship, losing a closely contested split decision. He subsequently faced Uzbekistan's Israil Madrimov in December 2021, suffering a ninth-round technical knockout defeat, before their July 2022 rematch ended in a technical draw following an accidental clash of heads that caused a cut above Soro's left eye.

In May 2023, the experienced Frenchman again demonstrated his competitiveness at a high level, dropping a narrow split decision to previously unbeaten Russian contender Magomed Kurbanov.

Rather than allowing those setbacks to define the closing chapters of his career, Soro regrouped and embarked on another successful run that ultimately carried him back into world championship contention.

His two most recent professional outings underline that the veteran champion remains a dangerous opponent.

On October 10, 2025, Soro defeated Evander Castillo by technical knockout at the Palais des Sports in Marseille, France, adding another stoppage victory to his extensive professional record and maintaining the momentum of his comeback.

Then, on June 10, 2026, Soro returned to his birthplace of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, for an emotional and career-defining opportunity against Tanzania's Hassan Mwakinyo for the vacant IBO World Middleweight Championship.

Competing before supporters in the city where he was born, Soro delivered a composed and authoritative performance, utilizing his jab, accurate right hands, and persistent pressure to control the contest.

After establishing his superiority through the early and middle rounds, the experienced Frenchman continued to break down Mwakinyo, eventually securing a ninth-round technical knockout victory to claim the IBO world championship.

The triumph marked a significant milestone in Soro's lengthy career, bringing him world championship recognition at middleweight and demonstrating that his experience, determination, and technical abilities remained effective at 38 years of age.

Having secured the championship in June, Soro now prepares to make his first defense against a challenger who represents an entirely different generation of middleweight talent.

The championship encounter promises an absorbing tactical battle.

Liddard, who will enter the contest as the younger and undefeated challenger, is expected to rely on his energetic approach, combination punching, and sustained pressure to test the champion's defenses and endurance. His recent performances suggest a fighter growing increasingly comfortable dictating the pace and controlling the distance against accomplished opposition.

Soro, meanwhile, will seek to capitalize on his considerable advantages in experience, ring intelligence, and familiarity with championship-level competition. With 28 knockouts among his 39 victories, the Frenchman has demonstrated that he possesses the punching authority to punish mistakes and turn the momentum of a contest with well-timed combinations.

The contrast is particularly striking considering that Soro made his professional debut in October 2008, more than 14 years before Liddard entered the paid ranks in November 2022.

Yet despite the difference in experience, the two fighters share an important characteristic: both have demonstrated the ability to rise to the occasion when championship opportunities present themselves.

For Liddard, victory would represent a remarkable ascent from professional newcomer to IBO world champion in just over four years. For Soro, successfully defending his title would reinforce his standing as one of the division's most resilient and accomplished veterans.

The confident British challenger has made no secret of his determination to return home with the championship.

"These are the fights I have looked forward to throughout my career," said Liddard.

"I am putting everything on the line in such a prestigious place."

"This is 'The Monaco Job', and I'm coming back home to Britain with the win and that IBO strap."

The world championship main event will be supported by an intriguing international undercard featuring established contenders, emerging prospects, and additional championship opportunities.

In the principal supporting attraction, Britain's Josh Padley (19-1, 6 KOs) will square off against Spain's Moussa Gholam (26-1, 17 KOs) for the interim WBA World Super Featherweight Championship.

Padley's remarkable journey from working as an electrician to competing on major international boxing stages has captured considerable attention, and the Yorkshire fighter now has an opportunity to add another significant achievement to his inspirational professional career.

The British contender enters the contest following a split-decision victory over Aqib Fiaz in June 2026, while Gholam brings impressive punching credentials, having stopped Alan Rodriguez in the third round of his most recent appearance in February 2026.

With both fighters pursuing championship recognition in the competitive 130-pound division, the matchup promises to provide another compelling attraction on an already impressive program.

The heavyweight division will also command considerable attention, with British knockout artist David Adeleye (14-2, 13 KOs) scheduled to make a quick return following his upcoming November 14 appearance in Los Angeles.

Adeleye, whose aggressive style and formidable punching power have made him an entertaining presence in the heavyweight ranks, will look to continue building momentum against an opponent to be announced.

Joining him on the card will be highly regarded 19-year-old British heavyweight prospect Leo Atang (8-0, 7 KOs), another promising talent generating considerable excitement with his combination of youth, athleticism, and explosive finishing ability.

Atang has already gained valuable international experience through appearances in Ghana and the United States, including an impressive second-round stoppage of Glen Williams during his American debut in July 2026.

The young heavyweight is also scheduled to compete in Sheffield on October 24 before returning to action in Monaco, where he will seek to further enhance his growing reputation.

Another eagerly anticipated contest will feature an all-British super welterweight confrontation between Yorkshire rivals Ishmael Davis (15-4, 6 KOs) and Junaid Bostan (11-1-1, 8 KOs).

The intriguing domestic matchup brings together two determined fighters eager to strengthen their positions in the competitive 154-pound division. With regional pride and valuable career momentum at stake, their encounter has the ingredients to produce one of the evening's most entertaining battles.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn expressed his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting both the significance of Liddard's championship opportunity and the strength of the supporting program.

"This fight night is always one of the highlights on our calendar, and this brilliant card certainly doesn't disappoint," said Hearn.

"Over the years we have been treated to the likes of Dmitry Bivol, Gennady Golovkin, Joe Cordina, Zhilei Zhang and Derek Chisora. Now George Liddard has a golden opportunity to etch his name into history when he takes on a very tough Michel Soro for the IBO crown."

Hearn also emphasized the importance of Padley's championship opportunity and the excitement surrounding the all-British showdown between Bostan and Davis.

The December 12 spectacular will continue a distinguished Monte-Carlo boxing tradition that has featured numerous internationally recognized fighters, including former world champions Gennady Golovkin and Dmitry Bivol, alongside prominent names such as Joe Cordina, Zhilei Zhang, and Derek Chisora.

The seventh installment of the Monte-Carlo Showdown arrives during an exceptionally busy weekend for British boxing, following the scheduled December 11 heavyweight confrontation between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in Cardiff, Wales.

With two major fight nights scheduled on consecutive evenings, boxing enthusiasts will have the opportunity to witness an outstanding weekend of international competition.

For Liddard, however, the magnificent surroundings of Monte-Carlo will be secondary to the championship opportunity awaiting him inside the ring.

The undefeated Englishman has already conquered the British, Commonwealth, and European championship levels. Now he must overcome a vastly experienced opponent whose professional career has included battles against some of the sport's most accomplished fighters.

For Soro, the contest represents another opportunity to demonstrate that championship pedigree and hard-earned experience can overcome the advantages of youth, momentum, and an unblemished professional record.

When the opening bell sounds beneath the glittering lights of the Salle des Étoiles, the elegant surroundings will give way to the unforgiving realities of championship boxing.

Two generations, two accomplished fighters, and one coveted world championship will converge in a contest that could shape the future of the middleweight division.

Will the undefeated George Liddard complete his remarkable rise by capturing his first world championship, or will the seasoned Michel Soro turn back the challenge of another ambitious young contender and extend his reign as IBO middleweight champion?

The answer awaits on Saturday, December 12, when Monte-Carlo once again becomes the center of the international boxing spotlight.

Monte-Carlo Showdown VII takes place Saturday, December 12, 2026, at the Salle des Étoiles, Sporting Monte-Carlo, Monaco. The event is promoted by Matchroom Boxing in partnership with Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.

Hotel and fight-ticket packages have sold out, while remaining individual tickets were advertised at £200 and £400 through Matchroom Boxing. Additional fight-week information and further undercard announcements are expected in the coming weeks.
