19 Year Old British Heavyweight Sensation Leo Atang
Set For Highly Anticipated U.S. Professional Debut
On The Diego Pacheco / Immanuwel Aleem Card
This Saturday In Carson, California!
(July 15th) One of British boxing's brightest young heavyweight prospects, Leo Atang, will take another significant step in his rapidly developing career this Saturday, July 18th, when he makes his highly anticipated United States professional debut at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The unbeaten 19-year-old from York will face Houston's Glen Williams in a scheduled six-round heavyweight contest on the undercard of the Matchroom Boxing event headlined by undefeated super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco vs Immanuwel Aleem, with the action streaming live worldwide on DAZN.
Standing an imposing 6ft 6in, Atang enters the bout with a perfect 7-0 professional record, including six knockout victories, producing an outstanding knockout ratio of over 85 percent. Since making his professional debut in July 2025 under Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing banner, the heavy-handed Yorkshireman has quickly earned a reputation as one of the sport's most explosive young finishers. Five of his six stoppage victories have come inside the opening round, showcasing the devastating power that has made him one of the heavyweight division's fastest-rising prospects.
Born, Leo Fonawah Atang and raised in York, England, the teenager compiling a reported amateur record of 34-4, 11Ko’s arrived in the professional ranks following an outstanding amateur career highlighted by winning the gold medal at the inaugural World Boxing U19 Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, in the super heavyweight division in 2024. That international success announced Atang as one of Britain's premier young talents and provided an early glimpse of the potential that has since attracted widespread attention from boxing insiders. His return to the United States this weekend represents a full-circle moment, as he looks to build on the amateur success he enjoyed on American soil while introducing himself to a much broader audience.
Atang heads into Saturday's contest full of momentum following an impressive first-round stoppage of France's Fouad Shaili in Sheffield on June 6th. Although the referee intervened after just over two minutes of sustained punishment, Atang once again demonstrated the relentless pressure, hand speed and punching power that have become his trademarks. The victory marked his seventh consecutive professional win and reinforced the belief within Matchroom that he possesses genuine world championship potential. Promoter Eddie Hearn has repeatedly described Atang as an "electric talent" and a future world champion, while continuing to develop the teenager through a carefully managed progression.
"The worldwide tour continues," Atang said ahead of his American debut. "I'm buzzing to be making my American debut on such a great card. I'm always grateful for the opportunities I am being given at such a young age, and this will definitely be a great experience. I can't wait to get another knockout win on July 18. It's LA in LA. Make sure you tune in, live on DAZN."
Standing across the ring will be Glen "Gorilla" Williams, a rugged American heavyweight from Houston, Texas, who enters with a record of 2-1, 1Ko. Measuring approximately 6ft 4½in, Williams will enjoy the advantage of fighting on home soil and sees the contest as a major opportunity to upset one of Europe's fastest-rising heavyweight prospects. For Atang, however, the fight represents another important developmental assignment as he continues gaining valuable professional experience while showcasing his talents on an international stage.
Still only 19 years old, Atang has already demonstrated maturity beyond his years by remaining active, fighting seven times in just over a year as a professional. While his explosive knockout victories have captured headlines, his team has emphasized the importance of building experience and developing every aspect of his game as he progresses toward elite competition. Saturday's appearance in California provides another major milestone in that journey and offers American fight fans their first live look at one of the heavyweight division's most exciting young talents.
With a perfect record, proven amateur pedigree, exceptional physical dimensions and concussive punching power, Leo Atang arrives in Carson carrying considerable expectations. His U.S. debut marks another significant chapter in a career that continues to gather momentum, as one of Britain's most promising heavyweight prospects looks to announce himself on the American stage and move one step closer to boxing's biggest opportunities.
