Joe Cordina Agrees Terms For Proposed
Manny Pacquiao Fight On Fury / Joshua Undercard!
(October 22nd) Joe Cordina has agreed to terms for a proposed showdown with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, according to Matchroom Boxing, promoter Eddie Hearn, potentially adding a major international attraction to the undercard of Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua on December 11th at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. Pacquiao’s agreement is still required before the matchup can be finalised.
“We've agreed terms to face Pacquiao, but we don't know if it's happening. From our side, we've agreed to do it,” Hearn said, confirming that Cordina and Matchroom Boxing are prepared to proceed.
The Fury–Joshua heavyweight showdown is scheduled for Friday, December 11, 2026, at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, with the event set to stream globally on Netflix. The blockbuster brings together two of Britain’s biggest heavyweight names for a long-anticipated domestic showdown.
The potential undercard attraction would pit Cardiff-born Cordina, a former two-time IBF super-featherweight world champion, against Pacquiao, one of boxing’s most accomplished fighters. The bout has been discussed for the same December 11 event, although its inclusion on the card has not been officially announced.
Preliminary discussions have centred on the 147-pound welterweight limit. That would represent a substantial jump for Cordina, 34, whose world championship success came at 130 pounds and whose recent contests have been at lightweight, with a 135-pound limit. The contractual weight, number of rounds, purse arrangements and any championship implications have yet to be announced.
Cordina enters discussions with a professional record of 19 wins and one defeat, including nine knockouts. His sole loss came against Anthony Cacace, who stopped him in the eighth round in May 2024. The Welshman has since recorded consecutive unanimous-decision victories over Jaret Gonzalez Quiroz in July 2025 and Gabriel Flores Jr. in December 2025, rebuilding momentum as he seeks another major opportunity.
Pacquiao, 47, boasts a record of 62 wins, eight defeats and three draws, including 39 knockouts. An eight-division world champion and International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee, the Filipino southpaw has built a remarkable legacy across multiple weight divisions and generations of elite opposition.
His most recent professional outing came on July 19, 2025, when he returned from nearly four years away from competition to challenge WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas. Their 12-round contest ended in a majority draw, with two judges scoring it 114–114 and the third awarding Barrios a 115–113 verdict. Barrios retained his title.
For Cordina, a meeting with Pacquiao in Cardiff would offer the prospect of a career-defining occasion in front of his home-country supporters. For Pacquiao, the proposed contest would present the opportunity to make his first professional appearance in the United Kingdom, adding another international chapter to an extraordinary career.
With Cordina’s acceptance secured on his side, attention now turns to Pacquiao and whether negotiations can produce a final agreement. If completed, the matchup would bring a compelling clash of generations to the Fury–Joshua fight night, combining a Welsh former world champion’s homecoming opportunity with the global appeal of an eight-division legend.
