Hometown Heavyweight Morten Givskov

Returns To Action On January 23rd

On The Bank vs. Alimkhanuly World Title Showdown!

(October 27th) There's nothing quite like a heavyweight homecoming, especially when a world championship is on the line and the spotlight of international boxing is shining directly on your hometown!

Undefeated Danish heavyweight Morten Givskov (6-0-1, 3 KOs) is officially heading back into battle on Saturday, January 23, 2027, at Forum Horsens in Horsens, Denmark, adding another intriguing attraction to the blockbuster world championship event headlined by unbeaten Danish sensation Jacob Bank (20-0, 11 KOs) against Kazakhstan's former unified middleweight champion Zhanibek "Qazaq Style" Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight championship.

For the 27-year-old Givskov, the announcement represents considerably more than another date on the boxing calendar. It marks a long-awaited promotional debut, a return to competition following a brief layoff, and an opportunity to showcase his heavyweight ambitions in front of his hometown supporters on one of the most significant nights in modern Danish boxing history.

Standing an imposing 6 feet 5 inches (196 centimeters), the Horsens-born southpaw brings an undefeated professional record, international tournament experience, and an unusual chapter of unfinished business into his highly anticipated return.

Givskov, who turned professional on February 3, 2024, has compiled six victories and one draw across seven professional appearances, with three of those victories coming by knockout. The towering Danish prospect has accumulated 28 professional rounds and has yet to taste defeat.

But his journey to the January 23 extravaganza has been anything but ordinary.

In 2025, Givskov traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to compete in the prestigious WBC Grand Prix, an ambitious international tournament designed to provide emerging boxing talent with opportunities to compete against promising fighters from around the globe.

There, the Danish heavyweight found himself at the center of one of boxing's more unusual competitive situations.

Facing Morocco's Youness Baalla, Givskov battled his way to a draw in a tightly contested encounter. Under ordinary circumstances, the result would have left both fighters without a victory. However, the tournament's specialized enhanced-scoring tiebreaker system ultimately favored Baalla, allowing the Moroccan to advance while Givskov was eliminated from the competition.

The official draw preserved Givskov's unbeaten professional record, but it did little to soften the disappointment of watching his tournament ambitions end without suffering an outright defeat. Fortunately, his Saudi Arabian adventure wasn't finished.

Givskov subsequently received another invitation to Riyadh, returning to the international stage as an alternate and making the most of his second opportunity by defeating Pavol Hrivnak.

The victory provided a welcome response to his earlier tournament disappointment and allowed the Danish heavyweight to leave Saudi Arabia with a win under his belt.

Now, after gaining valuable international experience and navigating the unpredictable twists of tournament boxing, Givskov is preparing to resume his professional climb in familiar surroundings.

Earlier in 2026, the unbeaten heavyweight signed a promotional agreement with Primetime Promotions, joining an organization working to develop Danish boxing talent and deliver major international events to the country's passionate fight fans.

Although his anticipated promotional debut was delayed, the wait is now scheduled to end in spectacular fashion.

Instead of returning on a routine domestic boxing program, Givskov will make his first appearance under the Primetime banner on a world championship card that promises to attract attention far beyond Denmark's borders. And the location couldn't be more fitting.

Born and based in Horsens, Givskov will have the rare opportunity to compete in his hometown while sharing the event with some of the most recognizable names in international boxing.

For a developing heavyweight, the combination of hometown support, a major promotional platform, and the international attention surrounding a WBO world championship contest presents an opportunity to elevate his profile.

While Givskov's opponent and scheduled number of rounds have not yet been announced, his addition strengthens an undercard already featuring another intriguing heavyweight confrontation.

Denmark's Thorbjørn Boudigaard (11-3) is scheduled to square off against Britain's Jordan Thompson (15-3) in a matchup that adds further heavyweight interest to the evening's festivities.

Thompson brings experience from boxing's international stage, including his 2023 challenge against then-IBF cruiserweight world champion Jai Opetaia, while Boudigaard will be looking to make the most of his opportunity against British opposition.

The combination of Givskov's return and the Boudigaard-Thompson encounter gives heavyweight enthusiasts additional reasons to anticipate a memorable night of action in Horsens.

Also scheduled to appear is undefeated WBA Baltic super featherweight champion Ahmad El Ahmad (12-0), who will look to continue his unbeaten professional campaign.

Promising lightweight Dao Atthapon (1-0) is another announced participant, bringing an additional developing talent to an event designed to showcase both established contenders and the next generation of professional fighters.

But while the undercard continues to take shape, the evening's centerpiece carries enormous historical significance.

In the main event, Denmark's unbeaten Jacob Bank will attempt to become his country's next male world boxing champion when he challenges the formidable Alimkhanuly for the vacant WBO super middleweight crown.

The championship showdown represents a major moment for Danish boxing, recalling the glory days of former two-time super middleweight world champion Mikkel Kessler, one of the most accomplished fighters in the nation's history.

Kessler famously stopped Ireland's Brian Magee in the third round on December 8, 2012, to capture the WBA super middleweight championship before making his final professional appearance against Carl Froch in May 2013. Now Bank has an opportunity to bring another major world championship home to Denmark.

The 25-year-old Danish contender enters the contest with a perfect 20-0 record, including 11 knockouts, and the confidence of a fighter who has steadily worked his way into world championship contention.

Among his most significant achievements was his January 31, 2026, victory over former IBF super middleweight champion William Scull, whom Bank stopped in the 12th round in a breakthrough performance.

Across the ring will stand one of boxing's most technically accomplished southpaws, Alimkhanuly, a former WBO and IBF middleweight world champion, has compiled an undefeated 17-0 record with 12 knockouts while establishing himself as a dangerous combination puncher with exceptional timing, precision, and finishing ability.

The 33-year-old Kazakh fighter will be moving into the 168-pound super middleweight division in pursuit of a world championship in a second weight class.

His return also follows a controversial period in which a positive test for the prohibited substance meldonium disrupted a planned December 2025 middleweight unification bout with Erislandy Lara and resulted in disciplinary action.

With his WBO suspension subsequently lifted, Alimkhanuly now has an opportunity to reestablish himself at the championship level against a younger, naturally bigger opponent competing on home soil.

The matchup presents a fascinating contrast between Bank's youth, momentum, and home advantage and Alimkhanuly's championship experience, southpaw skills, and proven punching power.

The vacant championship became available after former titleholder Hamzah Sheeraz relinquished the WBO belt rather than proceed with a mandatory defense against Alimkhanuly. The WBO subsequently moved forward with Bank and Alimkhanuly as the championship contenders.

An agreement between the fighters' representatives paved the way for the January 23 showdown, with Primetime Boxing and Gold Star Promotions announcing plans to bring the major international championship event to Forum Horsens.

For Danish boxing, the occasion represents an opportunity to return to the world championship spotlight.

For Jacob Bank, it represents the chance to capture boxing's ultimate prize.

And for Morten Givskov, it represents an opportunity to restart his heavyweight journey in front of the people who know him best.

His professional career remains in its early stages, but the experiences he has already accumulated—from his undefeated domestic campaign to the unusual WBC Grand Prix elimination and subsequent victory in Riyadh—have provided valuable lessons about the demands and unpredictability of professional boxing.

With the heavyweight division continuing to attract worldwide attention, every performance matters for developing prospects seeking to distinguish themselves from the competition.

A convincing showing on January 23 could provide Givskov with fresh momentum as he looks to climb the heavyweight ranks and establish himself as a name worth watching.

And while the championship spotlight will understandably focus on Bank and Alimkhanuly, the opportunity to perform before a hometown crowd on such a major stage could make Givskov's return one of the evening's most compelling supporting stories.

The stage is set. The hometown heavyweight is coming back. And on January 23, Horsens will have more than one unbeaten Danish fighter looking to make a statement.

The January 23, 2027, event at Forum Horsens is being presented by Primetime Boxing and Gold Star Promotions, with additional undercard announcements expected as preparations continue.

Ticket sales for the championship event are scheduled to open tomorrow Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 2 p.m. local Danish time.

One city. One world championship. A hometown heavyweight's return. And a potentially historic night for Danish boxing.
