Unified Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol

Returns To Russia To Face

IBF Mandatory Challenger Michael Eifert!

(May 28th) Matchroom Boxing, in association with World of Boxing, RCC Boxing Promotions, and Star Boxing, today announced that unified light heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol will defend his IBF, WBA, and The Ring magazine titles against German mandatory challenger Michael Eifert on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The event will take place at the UMMC Arena in Yekaterinburg, Russia, marking Bivol's first fight in his home country since December 2021. This highly anticipated bout represents Bivol's return to the ring after 15 months away due to herniated disk back surgery, ending a year-plus period of inactivity that had kept boxing fans waiting for his comeback.

The 12-round main event will see 35-year-old champion Bivol, standing 6'0" with a 72-inch reach and holding a record of 24–1 with 12 knockouts, face 28-year-old German challenger Eifert, who brings a 13–1 record with 5 knockouts to the table. Eifert has been the IBF mandatory challenger since his unanimous decision victory over Jean Pascal in March 2023, though he notably accepted step-aside payments to allow the Bivol-Beterbiev fights to take place twice. The champion enters as an overwhelming 1/25 favorite, while Eifert sits at 15/2 odds according to betting markets.

The WBO has removed its belt from the fight due to its policy regarding events in Russia amid the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, though Bivol will not be stripped of the WBO title. The fight will still feature the IBF light heavyweight title, WBA light heavyweight title, and The Ring magazine light heavyweight championship on the line. The event will showcase 11 bouts total at the 12,588-seat UMMC Arena, which serves as home to the Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg ice hockey club.

The co-feature will be a 10-round super middleweight contest between Russian fighter Nikita Zon, who enters undefeated at 11–0–1 with 9 knockouts, and Argentina's Nahuel Gonzalo Garcia, making his international debut with an 18–3–1 record and 16 knockouts. The undercard includes featherweight bout Vsevolod Shumkov vs. Christian Olivo, where Olivo brings an impressive 20–0–1 record with 7 knockouts, as well as super bantamweight action featuring Mukhammad Shekhov against Yerni Betancourt, along with six additional bouts to complete the full card.

Hearn has publicly stated that Bivol-Benavidez is "the fight to make," with talks already taking place between Matchroom and PBC about a possible David Benavidez versus Dmitry Bivol unification bout. The champion's return to action against Eifert serves as a crucial step back toward bigger fights and potential undisputed light heavyweight supremacy.
