WBO Flyweight World Champion
Anthony Olascuaga Signs With Matchroom Boxing!
(October 13th) Matchroom Boxing has announced the signing of reigning WBO flyweight world champion Anthony Olascuaga to a promotional agreement. The Los Angeles native will continue his world-title campaign under the Matchroom banner, with his next fight and opponent to be announced shortly.
Olascuaga (12-1, 9 KOs) is one of boxing’s most exciting champions at 112 pounds. A product of Los Angeles, he entered the professional ranks in 2020 with a compact but high-level amateur background, having gained invaluable experience training and sparring with elite fighters including Román “Chocolatito” González, Jesse “Bam” Rodríguez, Carlos Cuadras, Junto Nakatani, and Kenshiro Teraji.
“I’m excited to join Matchroom Boxing and take my career to the next level,” said Olascuaga. “I’ve worked hard to become a world champion and defend my title, but my goal is bigger than that. I want the biggest fights, the biggest nights, and to prove I’m one of the best fighters in the world. Eddie and the Matchroom team share that vision, and I’m ready to get to work.”
Under trainer Rudy Hernandez, Olascuaga developed the aggressive pressure, sharp combinations, and finishing instinct that have carried him from prospect to world champion. He announced himself on the world stage in only his sixth professional fight, challenging unified light-flyweight king Kenshiro Teraji in Tokyo in 2023. Although he was stopped in nine rounds, the performance confirmed his potential against elite opposition.
Olascuaga responded emphatically, stopping former world-title challenger Giemel Magramo in seven rounds before capturing the vacant WBO flyweight championship in July 2024 with a third-round knockout of Riku Kano at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan.
His last two outings have underlined why Matchroom views him as a major global attraction. In December 2025, Olascuaga retained his title with a fourth-round stoppage of Taku Kuwahara, extending his run of dominant championship performances.
In March 2026, he returned to Japan and defeated Jukiya Iimura by ninth-round technical knockout at 1:19 in Yokohama, recording his fifth successful WBO flyweight title defense. The victory improved Olascuaga to 12-1 with nine knockouts and reinforced his status as one of the division’s leading forces.
Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn said: “Anthony is a legitimate world champion with real star quality. He’s explosive, entertaining, and proven at the highest level. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Matchroom family, and we believe there are huge nights ahead for him on DAZN. The flyweight division is stacked, and Anthony is ready to take on the best.”
Olascuaga had been scheduled to face Andy Dominguez in San Francisco in July before that event was canceled. Now aligned with Matchroom, the WBO champion is targeting the sport’s biggest names and a continued climb toward flyweight supremacy.
Further details regarding Olascuaga’s first bout under the Matchroom Boxing banner will be confirmed in due course.

About Matchroom Boxing
After the success of snooker in the 1980s, Matchroom Sport moved into boxing with two small hall shows followed by Frank Bruno v Joe Bugner at Tottenham Hotspur’s ground – the biggest boxing event of 1987. That launched the company into the boxing big-time, a position it has maintained ever since.
Through the 1990s Matchroom Sport’s boxing roster featured many of the biggest names in the sport including Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Naseem Hamed, all in world title fights and it continues to work with some of the biggest names in UK boxing including Audley Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Super-Heavyweight gold medalist.
Over the years, Matchroom Sport has built up long-standing relationships with broadcasters around the world and with the advent of the Prizefighter phenomenon, the company’s boxing division has never been in a stronger position.
From fantastic six round scraps between the sport’s journeymen, up to multi-million-dollar World Championship contests featuring the above fighters, the Pro Box series has it all. Each show is packed with the very best in boxing action in a series that encompasses almost 25 years of Matchroom Sport’s commitment to bringing the highest quality to the global television market.
