Skye Nicolson vs Mariah Turner

Fight Week Presser!

(April 27th) The wait is over. Matchroom Boxing has officially landed Down Under, bringing a stacked card to Melbourne this Wednesday night. At the center of it all is the "Golden Girl" of Australian boxing, Skye Nicolson, defending her WBC Interim World Super Bantamweight title. But standing in her way is a hungry Mariah Turner, who views this not just as a fight, but as a "lottery ticket" to life-changing stardom. Will Nicolson prove there are levels to this game, or will Turner pull off the ultimate upset on the global stage?

The atmosphere shifted when the main event fighters took the stage. Skye Nicolson, looking to solidify her path to an undisputed title fight against Ellie Scotney, showed a mix of veteran poise and new-found aggression.

Skye Nicolson: "I truly believe I’ve leveled up again. A star is going to be born on Wednesday night... I can box, I can fight, I can do it all."

Mariah Turner: "This is a life-changing opportunity for me... to win and beat Skye Nicolson would be the ultimate achievement, and that’s what we’re aiming to do."

Sam Jones (Nicolson’s Manager): "There’s a void in women’s boxing coming soon with Katie Taylor leaving the sport... Skye can fill that void. But this is a 'banana skin' type fight; you can't overlook Mariah."

The co-main event features the heavy-hitting Teremoana Teremoana (10-0, 10 KOs) against the veteran Bowie Tupou. Matchroom’s Frank Smith didn't hold back, labeling Teremoana a "future undisputed heavyweight champion."

Teremoana Jr.: "In this heavyweight division, if a punch lands, you’re going down... I’ll use my speed and my youth."

Bowie Tupou: "I just want to test this old guy here, see how the body functions... the power is always there."

Perhaps the most heated exchange of the afternoon came between super welterweights Andrew Hunt and Benjamin Hussein. Hussein, known as the "Hype Beast," made it clear he hand-picked Hunt to take his momentum.

Benjamin Hussein: "Stay nervous boy, stay nervous... I'm going to rip you apart."

Andrew Hunt: "It’s hunting season. I’m prepared, I’m a f***ing animal... I’m planning to hurt him."

Frank Smith emphasized that this event is just the beginning of a three-year deal with Foxtel/Kayo to turn Australian prospects into global pay-per-view stars.

The WBC Interim Super Bantamweight Champion heads home Down Under to face ’The Golden Girl’, Mariah Turner in a mouth-watering, all-Aussie title showdown at the Melbourne Pavilion – broadcast worldwide outside Australia on DAZN – as the former Featherweight queen bids to become a two-weight World Champion and close in on an Undisputed title shot in the 122lbs division.

It is the first showcase as part of the recently extended agreement with DAZN’s Foxtel Group in Australia which will see seven major Matchroom Boxing events in 2026 broadcast live on Kayo SPORTS and Foxtel, bringing elite global boxing to Australian audiences.

Following DAZN’s acquisition of Foxtel Group last year, the company has continued to expand its portfolio of sports content on Kayo SPORTS. The new partnership with Matchroom Boxing strengthens Kayo SPORTS’s position as Australia’s sports streaming leader.

Foxtel Group Executive Director – Commercial, Sport Adam Howarth said: “Through this partnership with Matchroom, we’re delivering more world-class boxing to fans across Australia. As partners in growth, we’re focused on expanding the sport’s reach, building on the momentum that’s already there and bringing fans closer to the awesome moments this sport offers.

“And what a way to kick off the new agreement - an all-Aussie showdown in Melbourne. Bring it on.”

Nicolson (15-1, 3 KOs) – who is currently training in Spain – has her sights firmly set on an Undisputed clash with the winner of the upcoming Ellie Scotney vs Mayelli Flores fight in her quest to be the ultimate, Undisputed ruler of the Super Bantamweights.

Having fought all around the world, the former Olympian is thrilled to be heading back to Australia for what will be her first headline show – and she insists she will not leave her home fans disappointed when she takes on a tough and game rival in Turner (12-1, 6 KOs).

Meanwhile, Brisbane, Queensland, unbeaen heavyweight, Teremoana Teremoana, faces Redfern, New South Wales, Bowie Tupou in the co-feature. And the undefeated 10-0 (10 KOs) behemoth has issued a challenge to any Heavyweight rival who wants to step inside the ropes to face him on his return to Melbourne on April 29.

Rising super lightweight star, Jake Wyllie (18-2-1, 16 KOs) is determined to bounce back from his split decision draw with Paul Fleming last December and reignite his charge up the super lightweight rankings when he faces Brisbane's, Miles Zalewski (12-3, 10Ko's).

About Matchroom Boxing

After the success of snooker in the 1980s, Matchroom Sport moved into boxing with two small hall shows followed by Frank Bruno v Joe Bugner at Tottenham Hotspur’s ground – the biggest boxing event of 1987. That launched the company into the boxing big-time, a position it has maintained ever since.

Through the 1990s Matchroom Sport’s boxing roster featured many of the biggest names in the sport including Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Naseem Hamed, all in world title fights and it continues to work with some of the biggest names in UK boxing including Audley Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Super-Heavyweight gold medalist.

Over the years, Matchroom Sport has built up long-standing relationships with broadcasters around the world and with the advent of the Prizefighter phenomenon, the company’s boxing division has never been in a stronger position.

From fantastic six round scraps between the sport’s journeymen, up to multi-million-dollar World Championship contests featuring the above fighters, the Pro Box series has it all. Each show is packed with the very best in boxing action in a series that encompasses almost 25 years of Matchroom Sport’s commitment to bringing the highest quality to the global television market.
