Charlie Sheehy Has Signed A Long-Term
Promotional Deal With Eddie Hearn and Matchroom!
(April 15th) Charlie Sheehy has steadily positioned himself as one of the most promising American lightweight prospects, combining a decorated amateur pedigree with an unbeaten professional run and growing promotional backing. In 2024, Sheehy signed a long-term deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, marking a significant step in his career and a return to the platform where he first turned professional.
A native of Brisbane, California, Sheehy was introduced to boxing at a young age at the Fire in the Ring gym in San Francisco. Training in a notoriously tight, unconventional space, where the ring had ropes on only two sides, helped shape his aggressive confidence and adaptability. Reflecting on those early conditions, Sheehy said, “It taught me to keep fighting and be confident in myself and let my hands go. When I finally got into a full-sized ring for a fight, I felt like I had all the room in the world.” Under the guidance of longtime coach Miguel Rios, he developed a technically refined style rooted in discipline, ring awareness, and sharp combination punching.
Sheehy’s amateur career ranks among the most accomplished of his generation in the United States. He captured 17 national titles, including multiple National Golden Gloves and National PAL championships, and represented Team USA in international competition. His résumé includes notable wins over future world-class fighters such as Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz Jr. At the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials, Sheehy advanced to the medal rounds before losing a competitive decision to eventual Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis, later serving as an Olympic alternate at 138 pounds.
Turning professional in October 2021, Sheehy debuted in Fresno, California on a Matchroom card headlined by Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin. He quickly built momentum in the paid ranks, gaining experience on major platforms and progressing through increasingly seasoned opposition. By November 2024, Sheehy had improved his record to 12–0 with nine knockouts, highlighted by a stoppage victory over D’Angelo Keyes in Fresno—a symbolic full-circle moment in the same city where his professional journey began.
The new promotional agreement signals a pivotal phase in his career. “I am very excited to sign with Matchroom,” said Sheehy. “I made my pro debut with Matchroom five years ago and always felt it was where I belonged. I believe in this platform and my team. Now, it's time to prove I belong on the world stage.” He added, “I want to thank Eddie Hearn and Peter Kahn for getting this done and my team, Mike Bazzel, Javiel Centeno and Bruno Escalante for continuing to put in the work with me.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn echoed that confidence in Sheehy’s trajectory. “Charlie is a fantastic addition to the stable,” said Hearn. “With his impressive amateur standing and solid base in the pro game, he’s ready to kick on now to start making moves and getting himself into the rankings and in range to make some real noise at 135lbs. We’ll be announcing Charlie’s first fight with us soon, which will be his first ten round bout and will take place on one of our stacked summer slate of shows.”
With a strong amateur foundation, an unblemished record, and renewed promotional momentum, Sheehy is widely regarded as a “blue-chip” lightweight prospect entering contention territory. His blend of technical skill, ring IQ, and developing power positions him as part of the next wave of American fighters aiming to make a decisive impact on the world stage.

After the success of snooker in the 1980s, Matchroom Sport moved into boxing with two small hall shows followed by Frank Bruno v Joe Bugner at Tottenham Hotspur’s ground – the biggest boxing event of 1987. That launched the company into the boxing big-time, a position it has maintained ever since.
Through the 1990s Matchroom Sport’s boxing roster featured many of the biggest names in the sport including Lennox Lewis, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Steve Collins and Naseem Hamed, all in world title fights and it continues to work with some of the biggest names in UK boxing including Audley Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Super-Heavyweight gold medalist.
Over the years, Matchroom Sport has built up long-standing relationships with broadcasters around the world and with the advent of the Prizefighter phenomenon, the company’s boxing division has never been in a stronger position.
