Lamont Roach Jr. vs Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz

San Antonio Kick Off  Presser!

(October 8th) Premier Boxing Champions officially announced today that Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz will defend his Interim WBC Super Lightweight Title against WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Lamont Roach Jr. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. The bout will headline a PBC Pay-Per-View event live on Prime Video.

Both fighters came face-to-face to preview their highly anticipated 140-pound showdown.

Promoters and organizers highlighted the magnitude of the matchup, emphasizing that the winner could be positioned for major championship and pay-per-view opportunities in 2026. The event also signifies a return of world-class boxing to San Antonio—a city with a rich history of hosting memorable championship bouts and Mexican boxing icons.

Both fighters expressed respect for each other but made clear their intentions to dominate at super lightweight. Roach believes his technical skill and discipline will carry him to victory, while Cruz vowed to bring the same relentless pressure and power that have defined his rise.

For Cruz, 28-3-1, 18Ko’s, the fight represents the biggest moment of his career. Known for his relentless pressure style, Cruz has gone 6-1 since his narrow December 2021 defeat to Davis. In July, he secured the interim WBC junior welterweight title by outpointing Omar Salcido, establishing himself as a top contender in the division. His team and boxing supporters in Mexico view the Roach clash as a defining opportunity to emerge as the country’s next major star in the wake of Canelo Alvarez’s high-profile loss to Terence Crawford. Manager Sean Gibbons has emphasized the significance, declaring it “even bigger than the first ‘Tank’ fight” given Mexico’s hunger for a new boxing icon to headline national holiday weekends.

Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz: “Our goal is going to be for the fans to be the true winners of the night. We’re ready to deliver a great fight for everyone and continue representing Mexico with pride.”

Roach, 25-1-2, 10Ko’s enters the contest riding a seven-fight unbeaten streak and doing so with notable momentum following his controversial majority draw against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in March, a result widely debated among fans and analysts. A planned Davis rematch collapsed after Davis pivoted toward a November exhibition with Jake Paul, pushing Roach to seek a new opportunity at 140 pounds. Remarkably, this will mark his third consecutive fight in a different weight class, underscoring the Washington, D.C., native’s ambition to secure major world titles across divisions.

Lamont Roach Jr.: “We conquered 130. We really conquered 135. Now we’re taking over 140. This fight is about legacy, and we’re here to make a statement. My son is ready for his legacy run.”

The press conference set the tone for an explosive fight night in December, as two determined champions prepare to collide with pride, legacy, and championship ambitions on the line.

The stakes extend beyond personal legacy. The winner of Roach vs. Cruz is expected to earn mandatory status to challenge the reigning WBC champion, Subriel Matias, who has a title defense scheduled for January. With both Roach and Cruz carrying history against Gervonta Davis into the ring, the matchup has generated heightened intrigue and anticipation. Promoters are billing the contest as a “fan’s main event,” spotlighting Roach’s disciplined technical skill against Cruz’s fiery, come-forward aggression.

As December approaches, the fight stands not only as a pivotal crossroad for two of the division’s most intriguing names but also as a bout likely to influence the future shape of the junior welterweight landscape and determine whether boxing’s next breakout star will hail from Washington, D.C., or Mexico City.
