Car Crash In Ogun State, Nigeria!

(December 29th) British-Nigerian former IBF/WBA/IBO/WBO Heavyweight Champion, Anthony “AJ” Joshua, 36, was involved in a serious road traffic accident on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.

Earlier that morning, at approximately 08:30 GMT (09:30 local time), Joshua shared a video on his Instagram account showing him playing table tennis with another individual. Joshua has been spending time in Nigeria in recent days following his most recent fight with Jake Paul on December 19th.

The crash occurred at around 11:00 a.m. local time, near the Sagamu Interchange, just before a Danco petrol station, along one of Nigeria’s busiest and most dangerous highways. According to the Ogun State Police Command, Joshua was traveling as a rear-seat passenger in a Lexus SUV when the vehicle reportedly suffered a tire burst, causing the driver to lose control.

Police and eyewitness accounts state that the SUV subsequently collided with a stationary truck on the expressway. The collision resulted in the deaths of two individuals, whose identities have not yet been officially released. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was said to be conscious at the scene.

Joshua was assisted from the damaged vehicle amid shattered glass before being transported to an undisclosed hospital for medical evaluation. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The Lexus SUV was carrying four occupants, including the driver and two other passengers. Joshua’s security detail, traveling in a separate Pajero SUV, was following behind at the time of the incident.

The Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, a 79-mile roadway connecting Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, with Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, is notorious for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. The route is particularly congested during the festive season, as many Nigerians return from the diaspora to celebrate the holidays.

The Ogun State Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
