Eimantas Stanionis vs Vergil Ortiz Jr.

Now Set For July 8th In San Antonio!

(May 15th) It has been announced that a new date has been set for the highly anticipated fight between Grand Prairie, Texas undefeated knockout artist, Vergil Ortiz, Jr. and Kaunas, Lithuania, WBA World Champion Eimantas Stanionis.

 

A December purse bid won by Golden Boy Promotions secured the rights to the enthusiastically awaited welterweight collision setting up the winner for a “potential” shot at IBF and WBC Champion, Errol Spence Jr. 28-0, 22Ko’s.

 

Lithuania’s, Stanionis, 14-0, 9Ko’s claimed the secondary WBA welterweight title in a hard-fought decision win over Radzhab Butaev, April 2022 at AT&T Stadium, home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas.

 

The 25-year-old, WBO International Welterweight Champion, Ortiz, 19-0, 19Ko’s enters off an August 8th, ninth round TKO dismantling of Portsmouth, Hampshire, United Kingdom’s previously unbeaten Michael McKinson.

 

Ortiz vs Stanionis originally scheduled to fight on March 18th, but was postponed when Ortiz was hospitalized and had to undergo appendectomy surgery.

 

Rescheduled for April 29th, the bout was again postponed after Ortiz, Jr. suffered a rhabdomyolysis outbreak due to COVID.

 

The highly anticipated event will now take place at AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas on July 8th and will be broadcast Live exclusively on DAZN. Ticket and undercard information is expected to be announced soon.
