By: David Colon

At 37 years of age “Chocolatito,” absent since his controversial December 2022, vacant WBC World Super Flyweight title challenge, majority decision loss to rival “El Gallo”, Juan Francisco Estrada moving up to bantamweight began with his usual up-tempo style forced to wade through Barrera’s early rabid push, methodically picking his shots landing solid counter combinations testing the rugged 31-year-old to the body and head.

“Chocolatito,” in full control maintained his torrid pace, numerous times renting his Columbian foe space along the ropes finally put Barrera on the deck in round eight round with a ripping left hook liver shot. Courageously making it upright Barrera battled on only to be corner in the ninth sending his fading target to the canvas a second time with a series of head shots shockingly seeing referee Ramon Gonzalez (no relation) allow Barrera to continue.

“Chocolatito,” a certified finisher, recognizing Barrera’s condition immediately returned to work cutting off the ring returned the beaten Columbian to the corner for a flash from the past series of punches, this time convincing referee Gonzalez to step in and stop the punishment at 0:55 of the tenth and final round.

With whisperings of a possible Juan Francisco Estrada rematch or a crossroads battle with Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez Gonzalez moves to 52-4, 42Ko’s while Barrera’s the bout TKO run comes to a close at 27-6, 17Ko’s.
