Undercard Announced ABO America’s Championship

Triple Header at Resorts World Catskills!

(June 24th) Star Boxing is pleased to announce the card for CATSKILLS CLASH at Resorts World Catskills on June 28th. The much-anticipated night of fights is expected to be the first of many professional boxing cards at Resorts World Catskills. Fans will enjoy an ABO America's Championship Triple Header, and a night of fights featuring five undefeated prospects.

2018 Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year, and undefeated super lightweight, "ACTION" ANTHONY LAUREANO (Hartford, CT 10-0 3KO's) will look to make it eleven straight victories as he takes on DIEUMERCI "ELEPHANT" NZAU (11-8 8KO'S), fighting out of Silver Spring, Maryland, by way of Kinshasa, Democrat Republic of the Congo. Laureano has looked particularly impressive in his past three victories, earning wide unanimous decisions, highlighted by a disciplined body attack, and an incredible work rate. Nzau's previous three opponenets have a combined record of 37-4-1 and he hopes that a win against a fighter with the caliber of Laureano will put him on track for even bigger fights in the future. This bout is for the ABO America's Super Lightweight Championship and is scheduled for 8-rounds.

Power punching East Hartford standout, RICHIE "POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN" RIVERA (11-0 10KO's) will take on BRIAN "MVP" HOWARD (14-2 11KO'S) fighting out of the fighting city of Philadelphia, by way of Atlanta, Georgia. Rivera has devoured his competition with incredible punching power, which led to Rivera becoming the ABF Continental America's Cruiserweight and UBF All America Light Heavyweight Champion. Rivera hopes to add the ABO America's Cruiserweight Championship to his trophy case, but Howard has other plans. The Georgia native is coming off of a big first round KO of Garret Wilson and hopes to repeat his success on June 28th. This is a scheduled 8-round cruiserweight bout.

Making his United Stated debut, #2 rated Irish welterweight sensation, DYLAN "THE REAL DEAL" MORAN (Ireland, 10-0 5KO's) will look to impress the American fans with his quick hand speed, and power, as he takes on, DENNIS OKOTH (2-2-1 1KO) fighting out of Silver Spring, Maryland, by way of Siaya, Kenya. Moran, having fought in Mexico, the famous York Hall, in Britain, and in his home country of Ireland, is no stranger to getting the job done on the road. The amateur boxing standout and the former kickboxing world champion, Moran, hopes to return to Ireland with the ABO America's Welterweight Title. This is a scheduled 8-round welterweight bout.

The undercard will feature ROBERT DURAN JR. (3-0 2KO's), son of the legendary Roberto Duran, who is coming off of a fantastic win at Turning Stone Resort Casino, earlier this month against the previously undefeated Jonathan Pierre. Duran Jr. will face off against JERMAINE CORLEY (1-6 1KO) of Rochester New York. This will be a 4-round welterweight scrap. In the opening bout of the evening, LAWRENCE KING (1-0 1KO) who works as the Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy, will be making his second professional appearance against PEREZ AUGHTRY (0-1) of Buffalo, in a 4-round cruiserweight bout.

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGAURDIA had this to say about the ABO Triple Header, "Boxing fans are in for a real treat on June 28th, as we are featuring three extremely skilled, young, and up and coming prospects. Laureano has never disappointed as he always brings all out action from the opening to the closing bell. Rivera has only ever been in exciting fights, and with power in both hands, you will not want to miss one second of this bout. Moran, an Irish standout, is making his US debut, and we have very high hopes for him and what the future holds. This will be a fun night of fights, be sure to get your tickets now."

Star Boxing Signs Power Puncher

Richie "Popeye The Sailor Man" Rivera

to Fight On “Catskill Clash” June 28th

Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, New York!

(June 20th) JOE DEGUARDIA'S STAR BOXING is pleased to announce the signing of undefeated lightheavyweight / cruiserweight, Richie "Popeye The Sailor Man" Rivera, arguably the most popular and hardest puncher in New England.

The 28-year-old Rivera (11-0, 10 KOs), born and raised in Hartford, CT, is scheduled to fight on the CATSKILLS CLASH card on Friday, June 28, on FITE.TV ($9.99), live from Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, NY.

Rivera will face BRIAN "MVP" HOWARD (14-2, 11 KOs), fighting out of Loganville, Georgia, in an eight-round fight for the vacant American Boxing Organization (ABO) America's Cruiserweight title.

"I'm excited and ready to go," an ecstatic Rivera said between training sessions at the Hartford Boxing Center.  "I was very nervous about the whole thing (process). I don't just sign a paper put in front of me.  I read everything closely and ask questions.  I really thought Joe worked with us and met our demands.  I'm very happy to move on to the next level."

"I've worked with (Star Boxing's former world champion) Joe Smith Jr. for the past two years. It started with the (Andrzej) Fonfara fight, then (Bernard) Hopkins, and I'm helping him now (as a sparring partner). He's mentioned a few things, gave me some good advice to be cautious with all my decisions, and to listen before speaking."

Rivera is partners in Hartford Boxing Promotions with his adviser/head trainer Tony Blanco and Michael Tran.

Blanco drew a different analogy in terms of co-promoting Rivera with Star Boxing, saying: "The plane was on the runway, Richie is the engine, and now we have the pilot (DeGuardia) to take us where we want to go."

One of the key reasons for partnering with Star Boxing, according to Blanco, is DeGuardia's success working with former world light heavyweight champions Antonio Tarver and Smith Jr..

"I like what Joe [DeGuardia] has done in the light heavyweight division, starting with Tarver, and more recently Smith Jr.," Blanco commented.  "It's good for Richie because that's his division. This was kind of a no-brainer. Joe is reachable (in NYC), which is something I like to do business with him.  Some promoters sign fighters for no real reason and then they end up on the shelf, which is a fighter's worst nightmare. I think Joe is one of the top 10 promoters in the world, but it seems like the top three are always bickering with each other.  I like the fact Joe works with all other promoters. He's low key and I think a perfect fit for us."

"Another reason for us is Joe's new deal with NESN (home of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins), which is a New England regional network but available to watch nationally.  It's huge for Richie to be on television.  You just put the cameras on Richie, give him a microphone, and he does the rest.  And Richie can really fight, too.  I think he has the most star power in New England."

"The plan for Richie in 2019 is for him to continue developing, fighting a lot, and getting exposure.  He's self-motivated, always working hard in the gym, and hungry. We're on the right path."

Star Boxing has another undefeated Hartford prospect in its stable, junior welterweight "Action" Anthony Laureano (10-0, 3 KOs), who is also scheduled to fight on the June 28th card.

"We're excited to sign Richie and work with Hartford Boxing Promotions to guide him to the top,' CEO of Star Boxing, DeGuardia added.  "Richie has so much potential.  He's extremely strong, dedicated, hard-working, and charismatic.  We learned a lot about Richie during his training and sparring sessions with Joe Smith Jr.. Star Boxing has committed itself to further developing New England boxers and Richie has everything we look for, and more, to build him into a star."

Star Boxing Brings Boxing Back to the Catskills

June 28th When Resorts World Catskills Casino

Features "The Catskills Clash" with Matches to Include Dylan "The Real Deal" Moran, "Action" Anthony Laureano, and Richie "Popeye the Sailor Man" Rivera!

June 12th) Resorts World Catskills Casino Resort, New York's newest and closest integrated casino resort to Manhattan, announced today that, in collaboration with Star Boxing, is bringing boxing back to the region with the Catskills Clash. The card, which includes three undefeated names fighting for titles in the American Boxing Organization, will take place on Friday, June 28 in the RW Epicenter. These up-and-coming boxers join the ranks of many boxing legends who got their start in the Catskills.

Dylan "The Real Deal" Moran - Irish Welterweight Sensation

Born in Waterford, Ireland, the 24-year-old has successfully won bouts in the UK, Ireland and Mexico, with plans to lay roots in the United States. Moran earned his nickname by rising through the ranks in Irish amateur boxing, winning 6-county titles as well as, 6 provisional and national titles. As a true combative, Moran also earned 7 national titles, 1 European Title, and 3 World Titles as a kickboxer.

"Action" Anthony Laureano - Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year

Making his professional debut in September 2016, the East Hartford, CT native has not looked back. In November of 2018, after a fantastic year, including four victories, Laureano was honored as the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year.  Laureano is known for his come forward, all action style, hence his nickname. With a relentless work ethic and a work rate inside the ring that is second to none, Laureano is a force to be reckoned with in the super lightweight division.

Richie "Popeye the Sailor Man" Rivera - Undefeated Power Puncher

Undefeated Cruiserweight Richard "Popeye The Sailor Man" Rivera is arguably the most popular boxer and hardest hitter in New England. The 28-year-old has almost single handedly resurrected an otherwise dormant boxing scene of late in the Hartford market, which dates back a full century.

Considering the region's undeniable tie to entertainment, countless boxing greats, including Rocky Marciano and Muhammad Ali, spent decades visiting Sullivan County to train for upcoming championship fights and faced-off against the best, making the recent addition of the Catskills Clash to the RW Epicenter line-up a natural fit.

"Boxing champions made a name for themselves in the Catskills years ago, and we look forward to bringing that same excitement back to the area", said Kevin Kline, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Resorts World Catskills.  "We have established Resorts World Catskills Casino Resort and the RW Epicenter as a premier destination for live entertainment in the region, and we look forward to adding sporting events, including boxing, to our list of offerings".

In addition to the casino resort's luxury hospitality, distinctive dining and Las Vegas style gaming, the Epicenter has already hosted the best in entertainment with the likes of legendary comedians Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin James and Sebastian Maniscalco and musicians Clint Black, Paul Anka and Brett Michaels. With a strong line-up of local and nationally recognized acts, Resorts World Catskills Casino Resort is helping to restore the Catskills as a premier getaway and true destination.
