Yamanaka vs Nery Title Rematch Set for March!

(January 5th) In the main event of a ko Honda, Teiken Promotion, Tokyo, Japan, former WBC World Bantamweight Champion Shinsuke Yamanaka is set to meet Tijuana, Baja, Mexico’s current undefeated WBC Champion Luis Nery in a rematch of their August 15th title swapping bout March 1st at Ryōgoku Sumo Hall, in Tokyo, Japan.

 

The 23-year-old, Nery, now 25-0, 19Ko’s coming off a title defense sixth round TKO stoppage of Arthur Villanueva, November 4th administered Yamanaka his first professional defeat last August stopping the six-year reigning champion in four.

 

Putting aside possible retirement, the 35-year-old, Yamanaka, 27-1-2, 19Ko’s, holding title bout wins over Vic Darchinyan, Tomas Rojas, Malcolm Tunacao, Suriyan Sor Rungvisai, Liborio Solis, and Anselmo Moreno (twice), looks to avenge his only defeat which came in his last bout last Augyuat 15th, when his trainer entered the ring to shield the fighter from a one-sided Nery fourth round assault. Yamanaka after the bout would claim he was OK and could have continued.

 

In the co-feature, former Yamanaka victim Ryosuke Iwasa, 24-2, 16Ko’s will be making the first defense of his IBF World Super Bantamweight Title when he takes on Santa Rosa City, Laguna, Philippines Ernesto “Chocolate” Saulong. Iwasa claimed the IBF title September 13th, stopping Tokyo’s Yukinori Oguni in six rounds.

 

The 28-year-old, Saulong, 21-2-1, 8Ko’s comes in riding a three-bout win streak since dropping a vacant WBO International Bantamweight Title twelve round unanimous decision loss to Lwandile Sityatha, December 2015.
