(July 27th) Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Akihiko Honda’s Teiken Promotions have announced Tokyo, Japan based Venezuelan, Jorge “El Nino” Linares is set to make the second defense of his WBA Lightweight Champion September 23rd when he takes on Hessle, Yorkshire, UK’s once beaten Luke Campbell LIVE on HBO Boxing After Dark from The Fabulous” Forum in Los Angeles.


The 31-year-old, Linares, 42-3, 27Ko’s unbeaten since suffering 2011-12 back to back TKO losses to Antonio DeMarco and Sergio Thompson has won his last eleven claiming the vacant WBC World Lightweight title with a 4th round TKO stoppage of Javier Prieto December 20th, 2014 making consecutive title defenses scoring 2015 stoppage victories of Kevin Mitchell and Ivan Cano.


Linares the WBC Champion in recess added the WBA World Lightweight title scoring a twelve round unanimous decision wins over Anthony Crolla in 2016 successfully making his first defense in a twelve round unanimous decision rematch in his last outing against Crolla March 25th.


The 29-year-old, former WBC Silver Lightweight titlist and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, Campbell, a south paw unbeaten in his last six bouts since losing a coin toss split decision to Yvan Mendy, December 12th, 2015 riding a three bout KO streak comes off stoppage wins over Derry Mathews, Jairo Lopez and Darley’s Perez in his last outing April 29th on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.
