Taylor Gets Meinke on Joshua / Klitschko Undercard!

(April 19th) Bray, Ireland’s 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014 AIBA Women's World Boxing Champion and 2012 and 2016 Olympian, Katie Taylor will continue her quest of a pro title April 29th on the Joshua vs Klitschko WBA / IBF / IBO Championship card at Wembley Stadium, in London when she faces off against Berlin, Germany’s unbeaten Nina “The Brace” Meinke.

 

The 23-year-old Meinke, 5-0, 2Ko’s trained by former World champion Sven Ottke claimed the vacant WBC Youth Female Super Featherweight title in her last outing March 4th when she stopped fellow German, Hasna Tukic in one round.

 

The 30-year-old Taylor, 4-0, 2Ko’s turning pro out of the 2016 Olympics November 26th , 2016 stopping Karina Kopinska in three rounds adding wins over Viviane Obenauf and Monica Gentili enters off a eight round, one way, points win over Milena Koleva, March 25th on the undercard of the Jorge Linares vs Anthony Crolla, WBA World Lightweight title rematch.

 

The Taylor vs Meinke bout will be a ten round WBA lightweight title eliminator bout for the right to face once beaten Uruguayan, WBA World Female Lightweight champion Cecilia “La Reina” Comunales, 14-1, 9Ko’s.

Winner Ordered to Fight “King Kong”!

(December 22nd) Yesterday the World Boxing Association (WBA) announced the winner of the IBF and vacant WBA and IBO World Heavyweight title bout between Watford, Hertfordshire, UK’s 2012 Super Heavyweight Olympic Gold Medalist and reigning IBF World Heavyweight Champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua and Kiev, Ukraine former IBF, WBA and two time WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko, April 29th at Wembley Stadium must face unbeaten Cuban Luis “King Kong” Ortiz.

 

At 27 Joshua, perfect at 18-0, 18Ko’s since turning pro October 2013 closed out the year an adding KO wins over previously unbeatens Charles Martin and Dominic Breazeale, stopping Weslaco, Texas, veteran Eric Molina in three rounds December 10th.

 

The 40 year old, former four time world champion Klitschko, having fought anyone who is anyone in the heavyweight division like Monte Barrett, Chris Byrd (twice), Frans Botha Jameel McCline, Lamon Brewster(twice), Samuel Peter (twice), Calvin Brock, Sultan Ibragimov, Tony Thompson (twice), Hasim Rahman, Ruslan Chagaev, Eddie Chambers, David Haye, Jean Marc Mormeck, Mariusz Wach, Alexander Povetkin, Kubrat Pulev and Bryant Jennings returning from 16 months of inactivity looks to rebound having had his 22 bout win streak come to an end November 28th, 2015 dropping a lack luster twelve round unanimous decision loss to Tyson Fury.

 

The 37-year-old, Ortiz a long-time member of the Cuban National Team with a reported amateur record of 343-19, turning pro February 2010, compiling a record of 27-0, 23Ko’s winning his first 24 bouts claiming the interim WBA World Heavyweight title October 17th 2015 with a third-round KO of Matias Ariel Vidondo. Ortiz a southpaw closing out the year with a 7th round knockout of Philadelphia’s Bryant “Bye” Jennings, fighting three times in 2016, “King Kong” comes off wins over Tony Thompson, Malik Scott and most recently stopping 24-year-old 'White Rhino' David Allen in seven rounds earlier this month.
