(October 5th) Today during their Annual Convention this week in Baku, the World Boxing Council has ordered Oxnard, California’s WBC World Lightweight Champion Mikey Garcia to face Tokyo, Japan based mandatory challenger and WBA Lightweight titlist Jorge “Golden Boy” Linares.
The 29-year-old Garcia, 37-0, 30Ko’s will be coming back down to the 135lb division recording a twelve round unanimous decision super lightweight win over former WBO Super Featherweight, WBC Lightweight, WBA Welterweight and WBA Light Welterweight Champion Adrien Broner July 29th. Garcia will be making the first defense of the WBC Lightweight strap he won stopping Podgorica, Montenegro’s Dejan Zlaticanin in three rounds back January 28th.
The 32-year-old, WBA Lightweight strap holder Linares, 43-3, 27Ko’s mentioned in a possible fight with WBO World Lightweight Champion “Turbo” Terry Flanagan comes in off back to back WBA twelve round unanimous decisions over Anthony Crolla and a split decision title defense over Luke Campbell in his last outing September 23rd.
Official negotiations are expected to begin soon.
