WBC & WBO World Super Lightweight Championship

Set for May 20th, Madison Square Garden in New York!

(March 28th) Bob Arum’s Top Rank Boxing, in association with Lou DiBella’s, DiBella Entertainment has announced that Omaha, Nebraska’s, Terence “Bud” Crawford will defend his WBC and WBO World Super Lightweight titles against once beaten Dominican Republic, southpaw, Felix Diaz May 20th at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden in New York.

 

The 29-year-old Crawford, 30-0, 21Ko’s fighting for the first time in 2017 comes off a 5th round TKO stoppage of “Hammerin” Henry Lundy    last February, a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Ukrainian, Viktor “Iceman” Postol in July and most recently an eighth-round TKO of Covina, California, perennial challenger John Molina Jr. December 10th.

 

Edging Albany, New York’s Amir Imam, 19-1, 16Ko’s for the challenge, the 33-year-old Diaz, 19-1, 9Ko’s who’s only defeat comes by way of a majority decision to current WBA World Welterweight Champion, Lamont “Havoc” Peterson October 17th, 2015 enters off a ten round unanimous decision over then unbeaten Sammy “The Who Can Mexican” Vasquez in July and a sixth-round TKO stoppage of Levis Morales in his last outing in December.

 

In chief support of the Crawford vs Diaz WBC and WBO World Super Lightweight Championship bout will be Phoenix, Arizona’s, Ray "Sugar" Beltran defending his NABF and WBO NABO Lightweight titles against North Bergen, New Jersey’s, Jonathan “The Last Inca” Maicelo.

 

The 35-year-old Beltran, 32-7-1, 20Ko’s 3-0, 1 NC since dropping a twelve round unanimous decision WBO World Lightweight title challenge of Crawford November 2014 having a May 1st, 2015 second round TKO of Takahiro Ao over turned for doping is unbeaten in his last three stopping Ivan Najera in two, Miguel Angel Mendoza in five and Mason Menard in seven to claim the vacant NABF and WBO NABO Lightweight titles in his last bout December 10th. 

 

At 33 years old, Maicelo, 25-2, 12Ko’s unbeaten in his last four since his January 2015 twelve round unanimous decision interim WBA World Lightweight title challenge of Darleys Perez having banked points wins over Brandon Bennett, Samuel Amoako, Ramesis Gil and Jose Felix Jr. this past February 17th.

 

Also scheduled for action is Newark, New Jersey, 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist, Shakur Stevenson making his pro debut against an opponent not yet named.
