(October 10th) Caguas, Puerto Rico’s six-time, four division world champion Miguel “Junito” Cotto will make his career ending WBO World Super Welterweight Title defense against Brooklyn’s 2008 Olympian, Sadam “World Kid” Ali in the main event of a Golden Boy Promotions card December 2nd to be broadcast LIVE on HBO from Madison Square Garden in New York.

 

Reported as a verbal agreement with the particulars to be worked out has the thirty six year old and future Hall of Famer, Cotto, 41-5, 33Ko’s having faced the best talent around including Paul Malignaggi, Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal, Zab Judah, Shane Mosley, Antonio Margarito, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. after suffering a surprise WBA World Super Welterweight Title twelve round unanimous decision loss to Austin Trout December 2012 rebounded stopping Delvin Rodriguez in three rounds setting up a tenth round stoppage of Sergio Martinez for the WBC World Middleweight Title June 2014.

 

Scoring a fourth-round title defense TKO win over Daniel Geale June 2015 Cotto tripped of his title for not paying the staggering $1.1 million sanctioning fees would fall short in regaining the title belt dropping a twelve round unanimous decision to Sal “Canelo” Alvarez the following November.

 

While waiting for a possible bout with the winner of Golovkin / Alvarez Cotto once again bounced back bouncing back recording a one sided twelve round beat up of Japan’s tough as nuts Yoshihiro Kamegai setting up his December farewell bout versus Ali after the WBC ordered a Golovkin / Alvarez rematch.

 

The 29-year-old, career long 140-147lber Ali, 25-1, 14Ko’s moving up to the 154lb limit for the first time Ali with only one blemish a 9th round vacant WBO World Welterweight TKO Title loss to Jessie Vargas, March of 2016 has won his last three bouts banking a ten round points win over Saul Corral, September 2016, followed by a third-round stoppage of Jorge Silva, January this year and in his last outing a ten round unanimous decision over Johan Perez this past July.
