Canelo vs GGG 2 Opening Presser & Promo!

By Kid Hersh

At a press conference held this afternoon in Los Angeles, California, World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Middleweight Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin spoke of his rematch with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 15th and also received the “Ring Magazine” title belt that credits him as the number one boxer in his division as the linear champion.

Golovkin took time to talk about the fight itself that all the fans have been clamoring for “This fight is 100% for my kids, family, and boxing fans. This is history for me, I want to be part of great history.”

Golovkin is happy that a deal was able to be struck and seemed very confident in himself and holding out for as long he did, saying “Originally I wanted 50/50 but after some thought I understood that 55/45 was a good deserving number for both of us and if it didn’t happen we were ready to move on.”

Golovkin mentioned that he was offered different percentages such as 35% and 42.5% but that ultimately he thought he deserved at minimum 45% of the purse, saying “I am the champion, he needs to prove himself to me.”

The rematch will take place on September 15th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and be broadcast on HBO PPV.

Canelo vs GGG 2 Megafight Is Made!

By Kid Hersh

(June 15th) News was announced that the on-and-off again highly anticipated rematch between World Boxing Association (WBA) Super World Middleweight Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (38-0-1, 34KO’s) and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-2, 34KO’s) is on for September 15th in Las Vegas.

Oscar De La Hoya took to social media to announce the news, saying “I’m happy to inform that we have a fight September 15!!!!”

The fight was on-again, off-again numerous times the last few months as Canelo tested positive twice for the banned substance clenbuterol.

The first match was highly controversial as it ended in a draw but saw judge Adalaide Byrd score the bout 118-110 for Canelo, which was too many rounds in the eyes of the fans and viewing audience and caused her to take a leave of absence from the sport.

Now, with the rematch on the horizon almost exactly one year after the first fight, fans can get excited for the biggest bout in boxing at the moment as it looked for a while like this one may slip through the cracks.  Not the case – get excited for the middleweight showdown!
