Canelo / Fielding Final Presser!

Farmer Defends IBF Crown Against Francisco Fonseca

On Canelo vs Fielding World Super-Middleweight Championship Bill,

December 15th, LIVE on DAZN from Madison Square Garden NY!

(December 8th) Tevin Farmer defends IBF World Super-Featherweight crown against Francisco Fonseca in New York, Tevin Farmer will defend his IBF World Super-Featherweight title against Francisco Fonseca at Madison Square Garden in New York on December 15, on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez challenging Rocky Fielding for the WBA World Super-Middleweight title, live on DAZN and Sky Sports.

Farmer (27 – 4 – 1 6KOs) makes the second defense of his crown under two months in his third fight in just over four months after he first put the belt on the line in Boston, where he blasted hard-hitting Northern Irishman James Tennyson away inside five rounds in a fantastic performance on DAZN.

The Philadelphia ace looks to crown a great year in his career in style at the Manhattan boxing mecca with a third huge win, having landed the vacant title in Australia in August with a landslide points win over local favorite Billy Dib in Sydney – erasing the disappointment of his controversial loss to Kenichi Ogawa in Las Vegas in December, with the hotly-contested split decision reversal changed to a no contest following the Japanese failing a drug test.

Farmer has set his sights on a unification clash with WBA champion Gervonta Davis in 2019 as he aims to stamp his name as the premier fighter at 130lbs, but Fonseca (22 – 1 – 1 16KOs), whose sole blemish on his career was in a clash for the IBF crown with Davis in August 2017, is confident of ruining those plans and enters the bout on the back of three stoppage wins inside five rounds.

“Another day, another big night,” said Farmer. “I’m looking to do the same thing that I did to Tennyson – but much faster.

“I’m on another level and people are starting to realize. Right now, I’m just trying to make history with every fight. December 15 I will show everyone once again that I am one of the best in the world.”

“I’d like to thanks Tevin Farmer for the opportunity,” said Fonseca. “I see his focus is on Gervonta Davis, not on me – but you have no idea the opponent that you will clash with on December 15.

“I hope you’re prepared so we can give the public a great fight. In the name of God, I’ll be the new IBF World Champion. I’ll guarantee my name will never be forgotten by the people that watch us fight and I’m ready to make history.”

“Tevin Farmer is one of the most inspirational stories in boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “He’s won 20 fights in a row and is one of the fastest improving young stars in boxing. I’m pleased that, with Eddie Hearn and DAZN, he is now the most active champion in the ring. It’s a tremendous opportunity to be on the Canelo-Fielding bill.”

“It’s brilliant to Tevin straight back out after his big win in Boston,” said Eddie Hearn. “We are keeping our guys nice and active and Tevin gets his chance to go again on the biggest stage at Madison Square Garden against Fonseca.

“2019 is going to be a monster for Tevin but he must get the job done next Saturday – I can’t wait to see him light up the Garden live on DAZN.”

Taylor Defends World Titles Against Wahlstrom in New York!

(December 5th) Katie Taylor will defend her IBF and WBA World Lightweight titles against Eva Wahlstrom at Madison Square Garden, New York on December 15, on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez challenging Rocky Fielding for the WBA World Super Middleweight title, live on DAZN.

Taylor (11 – 0 5KOs) makes her third defense of her belts in her third fight in New York, first in the World famous Manhattan boxing mecca and the fourth stateside fight in her last seven fights.

The Irish sensation became the WBA World ruler in her seventh pro outing in Cardiff, Wales in October 2017 against Anahi Sanchez and unified the belts at the Barclays Center in fight number nine in the paid ranks, comfortably ripping the IBF belt from Victoria Bustos in April.

Taylor, an amateur star in the Emerald Isle with an Olympic gold medal added to five World championships and six European golds, is hunting unification bouts at 135lbs in 2019, but in unbeaten Finn Wahlstrom, the 32 year old faces the stiffest test of her pro career.

Wahlstrom (22 – 0 – 1 3KOs) is aiming to become a two-weight World champion in the Big Apple the long-reigning WBC Super-Featherweight champion steps up to Lightweight to achieve that goal on December 15.

The 38 year old landed her 130lbs strap in April 2015 and has been unmoved in four defenses on home turf, including a win over her common foe with Taylor, in former World champion Sanchez, who the Helsinki ace beat in December 2016.

The pair have history having clashed at the very start of Taylor’s amateur career 14 years ago, and the defending champion cannot think of a better setting to meet in the pros and continue her path to unification just over two years since the start of her pro career.

“Eva is someone I know very well from our time in the amateurs,” said Taylor. “I was actually drawn against her in my very first international competition back in 2004 and it seemed like every time I turned up to a major competition after that she was in the draw!

“She was always a really tough opponent so it’s no surprise that she’s gone on to have a great professional career. I think this fight will really showcase the best that women’s boxing has to offer and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve been lucky enough to fight in some iconic venues since turning pro two years ago but I’m not sure there’s any more iconic in a boxing sense than Madison Square Garden. I think every fighter dreams about stepping in the ring there and I’m no different. To get the opportunity to defend my World titles there is really very exciting.”

“I have stated for a longest time that I am ready and I want to engage in toughest fights available,” said Wahlstrom. “This is the ultimate, biggest and toughest fight anywhere and to have it in the legendary Madison Square Garden is a huge honor.

“I lost to Katie few times in amateur days but I am sure I won her respect anyway. Now in a 10-round pro fight, it will be totally different game with all new avenues to avenge those defeats.

“I have the greatest respect to Katie for how she has remained her respectable, nice, down-to-earth personality despite all the success and fame. Thus, I am not going to do any trash-talking, but I am very ready to do some thrashing in the MSG ring.”

“This is an amazing opportunity for Katie to fight at MSG,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “This is by far the toughest fight of her career so far and hugely important moving into 2019.

“There will be great Irish support in New York and she adds even more superstar status to this brilliant night of boxing on DAZN.”

Rocky Fielding Shares Insights on Training Camp

Tailor Made to Pull Off of A Career Upset Against Canelo, Saturday December 15th at Madison Square Garden!

(photo credit Mark Robinson- Matchroom Boxing USA)

(November 28th) Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) has ramped up his training efforts on home turf as he prepares for the opportunity of a lifetime against WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) for the WBA Super Middleweight Championship. Fielding has assembled the best team to pull off the upset of a career which could take him to the next level in boxing. The 12-round championship fight will take place Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden and will be streamed live on DAZN - which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

"If I win, I'll be the king of New York and one of the biggest names in the sport overnight. I came from nothing and now I'm headlining at MSG. It's a dream come true, but it's a job, and the work will be done in the gym in Manchester. There's a lot of talk about Canelo's next fight after Dec. 15-that it could be with Danny Jacobs, Demetrius Andrade, the Charlos, or even Callum Smith at Anfield - let them talk. If I take Canelo out, I'll have a massive fight at Anfield instead.

"When we had the face off, the first thing I saw were cuts from the GGG fight which were still fresh. Also, there's no way he's going to be able to put eight pounds of muscle on since his last fight, but he's elite and I know that it's my biggest test. I'm confident, though. I wouldn't have taken it otherwise. It's at my weight, and I am big for the weight. I can punch, I'm heavy-handed and I can box.

"The height and the weight are significant. I am comfortable at the weight and he'll be the one stepping up. He was a beast at light middleweight, but he's not the biggest middleweight out there, so he won't be at 168lbs. That difference is going to make for a great fight. If I have to dig deep at times, as I expect to have to do, I know I can. My weight and height can definitely play a massive part. I've had six good wins since the Smith fight. I've won titles and then gone to Germany where nobody gave me a chance and knocked the hometown guy out to become world champion. He [Canelo] may be looking past me, but I am definitely not looking past him.

"We're covering all bases in sparring. You aren't going to get sparring partners that are exactly like Canelo, but we're replicating the build, the height, slick boxing skills and fast hands. But it's as much about what I can do on the night. We know that he [Canelo] is an elite fighter and an all-round class act, but there are little bits there that Jamie Moore and I are watching on tape and working on in the gym.

"This is my first camp training as a world champion, and I know that it's harder to stay as a world champion than become one because it's like there's a target on your back. Everything about the fight is big, but we're away from it all in Manchester. There's no Madison Square Garden bright lights there, so we're focused on the plan with Jamie.

"Canelo doesn't make many mistakes, so we're going to have to draw those mistakes out of him. He boxed in a 12-round war in September and now he's gone into another camp to box me in December. Will his body hold up through another camp after that war?
