Sampson Boxing Returns in Dominican Republic on March 24th
(February 8th) On March 24 at the Palacio de Los Deportes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Sampson Boxing and Manguita Promotions will proudly present an outstanding night of professional boxing in tropical paradise.
The night's main event will feature a very special homecoming, as Santo Domingo's own Victor "Mermelada" Cayo (27-2, 19 KOs) will face Jacksonville, Florida's former unified lightweight world champion Nate "The Galaxxy Warrior" Campbell (34-9-1, 25 KOs) in the 10-round junior welterweight main event.
The smooth boxing Cayo remains a crowd favorite and top-rated contender in the 140-lb division. His only losses have come against world champions Marcos Maidana and Lamont Peterson. He was last seen quickly dismantling Nelson Sanchez in Punta Cana last November.
Campbell, who won the IBF, WBO and WBA world championships by defeating Juan Diaz in 2008, will be looking to move himself back into contention with a victory over Cayo. An extremely hard puncher, Campbell is still a dangerous opponent for anyone in the world.
On the undercard, Sampson Boxing will continue its enthusiastic support of female boxing by showcasing hometown world champion Dahiana Santana (28-6, 12 KOs) defending her IBF Featherweight Championship in a 10-round battle against the woman from whom she won her title: Miami, Florida's Stacey Reile (10-4, 4 KOs).
It will be battle stations when these two meet, as the two women have split a pair of fights and this rubber match will settle their rivalry once and for all.
And in another women's fight with world significance, IBF Junior Featherweight Champion Ada Velez (20-3-3, 6 KOs) will defend her belt against Santo Domingo native and once-beaten contender Katy Wilson Castillo (14-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round scrap.
Velez is a formidable champion with several wins over top opponents, but Wilson Castillo has only lost once, in a world championship challenge to a South American in South America.
On the undercard, Sampson Boxing will showcase a pair of young knockout artists who will be making their US debuts in the near future, as junior welterweight Juan Carlos Abregu (6-0, 6 KOs) and featherweight Braulio "El Chavo" Rodriguez (6-0, 6 KOs) will each make appearances.
Both fighters will soon be part of the stable of Sergio Martinez and under the supervision of super-trainer Pablo Sarmiento.
The event will be televised by Super Canal Caribe, which can boast 2.5 million viewers in the US with a presence in Dallas, Tampa, Baltimore, Washington, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles, Ft. Wayne, Richmond, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Providence, Buffalo, Harrisburg and Syracuse, as well as 900,000 subscribers Venezuela and the Caribbean and 60,000 viewers in El Salvador.
More bouts and all undercard opponents, as well as ticket information will be made available shortly.

Lewkowicz' Panamanian Suspension Removed

(February 6th) The Commission of Professional Boxing of Panama has officially lifted all sanctions against promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing, effective December 31, 2011.
From the onset, Lewkowicz protested the one-year suspension levelled against him in April of last year, in which he was declared "Persona Non Grata" and prohibited from having any kind of relation or contact with this commission or any Panamanian boxers, as being political in nature and grossly unfair.
At the time, it was alleged that Lewkowicz had threatened the management of WBA Bantamweight Champion Anselmo Moreno, via email, that their contract with Moreno would be terminated by the Commission for going against the interests of their represented boxer if they didn't persuade the fighter to sign a promotional agreement with Golden Boy Promotions.
Lewkowicz responded by publishing the "offending" email, which didn't seem to say what he was being accused of saying.
And now, after a careful review of the facts presented to them, the Commission has agreed Mr. Lewkowicz was indeed acting in the best interests of his fighter.
According to a letter from Commission President Albert E Guerra, Lewkowicz is now "authorized to be involved in any boxing activity in the Republic of Panama as well as be involved with Panamanian boxers."
The move will serve as good news for South American boxers, many of whom Lewkowicz has had the vision to discover and turn into stars, including world middleweight champion and pound-for-pound superstar Sergio Martinez.
"I commend the Panamanian commission for having the wisdom to take another look at the 'evidence' against me and rightfully conclude I was only doing the best I could do for my fighter and never intended my words to be taken as threats. I look forward to doing business in the great country of Panama once again, as I have always been treated very well."
