Quotes from Superbrawls Conference at Texas Station Casino

A press conference was held today to discuss the Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised boxing event entitled "Superbrawls", scheduled for tomorrow, (Friday, February 3), in the Dallas Events Center at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.

Superbrawls will be topped by a 10-round light heavyweight main event between Colombian powerhouse Edison "Pantera" Miranda and South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba, and also feature two up-and-coming warriors in the eight-round co-main event: Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs) against fellow undefeated Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs).

As a very special added attraction, unbeaten heavyweight prospects Magomed Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs) Moscow, Russia, and Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs) will lock up in a six-round battle.

The following are excerpted fighter quotes from the conference:

Edison "Pantera" Miranda
I've been hearing what he's been saying on the Internet. I want him to know this is not Africa with lions and tigers. This is ESPN.

This fight won't last five rounds.

I've fought so many great fighters. Give me one name of who you have fought. He hasn't fought anybody. I'm going to destroy him.

I feel sorry for all the other light heavyweights in the world.

Isaac "The Golden Boy" Chilemba
I'm looking forward to the fight.

I was supposed to fight next week on the Berto/Ortiz undercard when my manager told me about the opportunity to take on Edison Miranda on ESPN. I was very excited.

We have the game plan to beat Edison and I can't wait to start exchanging punches with him.

Pedro Rodriguez
I'm going to show the world this guy (Abdusalamov) is not such a badass and I'm going to show the world what I can do tomorrow night.

"Mago" Magomed Abdusalamov
I will do the same thing to this opponent that I did the last time I was here. Watch what I did to Rich Power. That's what I'm going to do to him.

Hylon "Suave" Williams
I know he's very well prepared well, but so am I.

Thanks to my opponent for taking the fight, a lot of people have wanted to see this fight for a long time and tomorrow, we will put on a great show.

Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy
My trainer, Miguel Diaz is the best in boxing. I haven't stopped training since my last fight.

I've already beaten one undefeated fighter and tomorrow night, I'm going to do it again.

Topping the all-action undercard will be "can't miss" Puerto Rican super middleweight prospect Roberto Jose Acevedo (2-0, 1 KO) in a four-round showcase fight against Las Vegas resident Velvet Malone (0-3).

Other bouts scheduled include a noteworthy six-round super featherweight tussle between Igrim, Russia's undefeated Eveny Gradovich (11-0, 6 KOs) and Las Vegas' Robert Osiobe (11-3-4, 6 KOs); a four-round junior welterweight match-up between Vegas residents Cameron Kreal (0-0-2) and Jesus Gutierrez (1-0, 1 KO); and Puerto Rico's Juan Carlos Velasquez (10-1, 5 KOs) in a six-round super featherweight bout against TBA.

Miranda Promises Chilemba 'Long Flight Back to Africa'

(February 1st) "Everyone has a game plan until they get hit," laughs hard-hitting light heavyweight contender Edison "Pantera" Miranda.

Miranda (35-6, 30 KOs) is responding to pre-fight interviews with South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba, whom he will face in the 10-round light heavyweight main event of this Friday's (February 3) ESPN Friday Night Fights broadcast from the Dallas Events Center at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.

"It's one thing to study video, but then that leather hits your face and your plan goes out the window and survival mode kicks in. Before you know it, you get hit again and you're lying on the canvas. What happened to your game plan?"

Presented by Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing, "Superbrawls" will also feature a fantastic eight-round co-main event between 21-year-old lightweight Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs) and 25-year-old Cuban power-punching sensation Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs), plus fast-rising heavyweight sensation Magomed Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs) of Moscow, Russia, taking on Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs).

Miranda, who is coming off an impressive KO of world-rated Kariz Kariuki in Atlantic City last December says Friday will be a matter of bad timing for Chilemba.

"I have been with my trainer Noni 'Chico' Carbajal for two years and he is a great trainer. I have never been so dedicated and hungry as I am now. We had the perfect training camp and I am ready to make an example of Isaac Chilemba. If he could feel what I am feeling, he would run away like (original opponent Yordanis) Despaigne did. Everyone thinks they have me figured out before they fight me, but Isaac, I promise you are going to have a long flight back to Africa. You said you were not going to leave the fight in the judges' hands - you won't have to since the fight will be in my hands. You are facing me at the wrong time in my career. I have knocked out so many of my opponents. When I walk into that ring Friday night, I have every intention of adding you to the list."

"SuperBrawls" Co-Main Event
'Kid Blast' Barthelemy vs. Hylon Williams Jr.

(January 30th) Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs) will not be in for an easy night when he steps in the ring on February 3 against fellow undefeated Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs).

The two up-and-coming warriors will meet in the eight-round co-main event of the ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing event entitled "Superbrawls" this Friday (February 3), in the Dallas Events Center at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.

Superbrawls will be topped by a 10-round light heavyweight main event between Colombian powerhouse Edison "Pantera" Miranda and South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba, and also feature a battle of unbeaten heavyweight prospects Magomed Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs) Moscow, Russia, and Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs).

Standing an amazing 5' 11" the towering Barthelemy had an impressive amateur career, competing in 200 fights and earning the Cuban junior national championship before defecting to the United States. He is coming off a knockout victory over Mexican Alejandro Barrera on the Lucian Bute-Glenn Johnson undercard in Quebec City, Canada in November.

With his relentlessly aggressive style, the 25-year-old Cuban power puncher has proven to be one of the most exiting up-and-comers in the game.

In Hylon Williams Jr., he will face his biggest test since turning professional in August 2009.

21-year-old Hylon Williams Jr. will also be in with the best opponent of his career, so far.

Originally from Houston, Williams is blessed with blazing hand speed and incredible balance. He was a highly decorated amateur who went 145-20 and won several national and international tournaments.

The match-up will be a classic boxer vs. puncher duel and in the end, SOMEONE'S 0 MUST GO!!!

Heavyweight Beast Magomed Abdusalamov to Appear
on Friday Night Fights Next Week!

(January 26th) "My fighter will beat everybody in the heavyweight division; it's only a matter of time," says Boris Grinberg of AB Boxing, manager and father figure of undefeated Russian heavyweight Magomed "Mago" Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs).

To say Team Abdusalamov is confident their fighter is the next big thing in the heavyweight division is an understatement. They are certain of it. "This guy beats everybody, including the Klitschkos. He's too big and strong. Nobody can even go more than a few rounds with him in sparring."

Abdusalamov will face Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs) in one of the televised bouts of the Friday, February 3, ESPN Friday Night Fights broadcast presented by Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.

The event, entitled "Superbrawls" will be topped by a 10-round light heavyweight main event between Colombian powerhouse Edison "Pantera" Miranda and South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba, and also feature Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas and Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs) in the eight-round lightweight co-main event

30-year-old "Mago" Abdusalamov is a crunching southpaw powerhouse who moves forward constantly and imposes his brute strength on his unfortunate foes.

Blessed with amazing patience for such a heavy-handed boxer, when faced with a challenging style, the big Russian also has the ability to study his opponent before pulverizing them, probably due to his extensive amateur career where he was the 2005 and 2006 Russian amateur champion at super heavyweight.

"They're calling him the Russian Tyson and a lot of people are anxious to get a look at this guy," said his promoter Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. "The opponent he's fighting was on the Cuban national team as an amateur and is also undefeated, but our guy is unstoppable. He never stops training; he's strong as an ox, has all kinds of international experience and he listens well and learns a lot."

Abdusalamov currently lives in Oxnard, California, training under the watchful eye of trainer Pablo Sarmiento. Sarmiento has tremendous experience in guiding southpaw fighters to glory, as he is also the trainer of WBC emeritus middleweight champion Sergio Martinez.

"By the end of this year, he'll start beating top contenders like Chris Arreola and guys like that," continued Grinberg. "He wants to fight them now, but nobody wants to fight him. We tried to make this fight against Travis Walker, but he ran away. Two or three fighters refused to fight him for this event. Nobody wants to be knocked out."

Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba is
Ready to Go to War with Edison Miranda

(January 23rd) When South Africa's world ranked light heavyweight contender, Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba (18-1-1, 9 KOs), steps in the ring on February 3, 2012, against Edison "Pantera" Miranda (35-6, 30 KO's), he's going to have bad intentions on his mind.

Chilemba, DiBella Entertainment's rising star, went on to say, "I have a great deal of respect Edison Miranda, he's a worthy opponent, but I'm coming to make a statement come fight night. There is no room for error, and I'm not going to leave it up to the judges to decide the outcome. Make no mistake about it...I'm gunning for a knockout."

Damian Ramirez who manages Chilemba stated, "Isaac is very determined and ready to take his career to the next level. This fight is a great opportunity for him to showcase his skills on a national level. Miranda is a proven warrior and he's going to leave everything in the ring, that's why this fight is going to be great for the fans in attendance and those watching on TV."

Training out of the St. Pete Boxing Club in Florida with famed coach Dan Birmingham, Isaac continued, "Training camp has been rough, but at this level nothing comes easy. I've been working hard on some new training techniques and I know I'm getting better every day. Sparring has been great and Dan has given me the perfect game plans to come out victorious. He's the best trainer in boxing."

Promoter Lou DiBella commented saying "This is Isaac's chance to immediately enter the top echelon of the light heavyweight division."

In the night's fantastic eight-round co-main event, 21-year-old lightweight Hylon Williams Jr. (15-0, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas will face off against 25-year-old Cuban power-punching sensation Rances "Kid Blast" Barthelemy (14-0, 11 KOs) in a rare battle of up-and-coming undefeated prospects.

Expect fireworks, as both fighters were highly decorated amateurs and both have been pegged for future big deeds. Williams is highly skilled with blazing fast hands, while Barthelemy is building a reputation for his punching power.

And, amazingly, the televised middle bout will feature yet another "someone's 0 must go" battle of unbeaten prospects, as fast-rising heavyweight sensation Magomed Abdusalamov (12-0, 12 KOs) Moscow, Russia, will face Cuba's Pedro Rodriguez (8-0, 6 KOs). Rodriguez will be looking to spring a minor upset of sorts, as the highly touted Abdusalamov is a former 2005 and 2006 Russian amateur champion at super heavyweight.

More exciting undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

Despaigne Falls Out, Chilemba Jumps in to Face Miranda
February 3rd in Vegas

(January 13th) Claiming he is not "mentally ready" to fight, Cuban light heavyweight Yordanis Despaigne has withdrawn from his scheduled rematch against charismatic light heavyweight slugger Edison "Pantera" Miranda (35-6, 30 KOs), scheduled for Friday, February 3, in the Dallas Events Center at the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas.

Instead, Miranda will now face South Africa's WBC #6, WBA #13, and WBO #14-rated Isaac "Golden Boy" Chilemba (18-1-1, 9 KOs) in the 10-round main event of an ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised night of boxing, presented by Warriors Boxing and Sampson Boxing, entitled "Super Brawls".

A controversial call brought a premature end to Despaigne and Miranda's exciting back-and-forth fight last July 29 (also shown live on Friday Night Fights) when Referee Vic Drakulich disqualified Miranda at :45 of the fifth round due to low blows and what many said was some quality acting by Despaigne. "I have said all along he is an actress pretending to be a fighter," said a disgusted Miranda of Despaigne's falling out. "He knew he was going to get knocked out the first time we fought, so he flopped around on the canvas pretending to be hurt. His fear this time around just proves that."

While the rematch promised to be an entertaining scrap, the addition of world-rated Chilemba to the card actually steps up the event's significance on the world stage.

Tall and rangy with fast hands, 24-year-old Chilemba has held the IBO and African Boxing Union Super Middleweight and the WBC International, African Boxing Union and WBO Africa Light Heavyweight Titles. He made his Friday Night Fights debut last February at the Million Dollar Elm Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when he dealt then undefeated Russian Maxim Vlasov his first loss via unanimous 10-round decision.

Miranda was last seen scoring a spectacular knockout over then highly rated Kariz Kariuki in December.

"With Despaigne pulling out we lost what could have been a good fight, but Chilemba is actually a much tougher opponent for Edison," said promoter Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing. "Miranda was able to hit Despaigne fairly often, that's not a guarantee with Chilemba. He's very tricky and has a long reach. It's going to be an intriguing fight."
