Leva Kirakosyan had the hometown favorite down in the first forty seconds with a right to the head, a punch from which he would never fully recover. Lawton moved, slipped and held on surviving the round but not before catching a solid left hook as the round came to a close.
In the second round Lawton still shaken continued to try to avoid the pressing Armenian but was cornered and pounded with some solid left hooks earning him a referee Soren Saugmann eight count.
The third round began with Kirakosyan walking Lawton to the ropes unleashing an unanswered barrage of punches forcing referee Saugmann to call the bout at 0:21 of round three.
Stokes flyweight Chris Edwards recaptured the vacant Commonwealth flyweight title winning a 115-114 times three unanimous decision damning Nambia’s Abmerk “Dam” Shindjuu. Edwards moves to .500 at 14-14-3, 4Ko’s while Shindjuu drops to 7-3-2, 2Ko’s.
In light heavyweight action Havant, Hampshire’s Danny “The Big Mac” McIntosh floored former British and WBU light heavyweight champion Tony Oakey twice in the second round winning by a second round Ko when Oakey appeared to miss judge the count. “Big Mac” advances to 11-1, 5Ko’s dropping Oakey to 29-5-1, 8Ko’s.
Cardiff, Wales lightweight Gary “Dynamo” Buckland won a Commonwealth title eliminator out pointing Sweden’s Sam “Rocky” Rukundo 116-112, 117-111 times two advancing to 18-1, 6Ko’s while Rukundo falls to 15-1-1, 6Ko’s.
St Helens, Merseyside, UK’s middleweight Martin Murray remained unbeaten moving to 18-0, 6Ko’s winning a 58-56 decision over Georgia ‘s Shalva “Shaka” Jomardashvili dropping him to 29-2, 19Ko’s
