Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones to Settle
Long Time Rivalry Saturday April 3rd!

After much talk and 17 years excuses from both sides future Hall of Famers Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. will finally square off Saturday, April 3 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas with the fight to be broadcast live on pay-per-view.

"The Executioner," 50-5-1, 32Ko’s and Jones, 54-6, 40 KOs two of boxing’s biggest names will be meeting in the rematch of their May 1993 vacant IBF middleweight title fight which Jones undefeated at the time won a closely contested 116-112 times three unanimous decision.

At 45 years young Hopkins 45 years old won the IBF middleweight title from Segundo Mercado in 1995 in the rematch of their draw the previous year in a fight that had Hopkins down twice.
The “Executioner” continued his roll securing wins over John David Jackson, Glencoffe “The Road Warrior” Johnson, Simon “Mantequilla” Brown, an “Armed & Dangerous” Robert Allen and “Kid Dynamite” Antwun Echols

Hopkins remained at the top of his game unifying the WBC and IBF middleweight titles beating Keith Holmes then jumping back to the front of the stage with a 12th round Tko of Felix “Tito” Trinidad in 2001. “Hop” added victories over Carl Daniels, William Joppy and a ninth round stoppage of Oscar De La Hoya before losing two very close back to back bouts with 2000 Olympic Bronze Medalist Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor in 2005.

Hopkins rebounded winning bouts with Ronald “Winky” Wright and beating Antonio Tarver winning The Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight World Championship before losing a close decision to undefeated Joe Calzaghe. In 2008 Hopkins added two more victories thoroughly beating WBO and WBC Middleweight Champion Kelly Pavlik and Enrique Ornelas, 2009.

Roy Jones a top ranked amateur winning several national titles going on to win the Light Middleweight Silver Medalist for the United States at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea started his pro career winning 26 straight before suffering a DQ loss to Montel Griffin March 1997 for hitting Griffin while he was down.

Jones went on to revenge the loss stopping Griffin in one round five months later then going on to run another fifteen straight wins including winning the heavyweight title using his remarkable speed and power to win a one sided unanimous decision over the first Puerto Rican heavyweight champion John Ruiz March 2003 Jones. Jones then unified the light heavyweight title winning a majority decision over Antonio Tarver before falling into a three fight slide starting May 2004 when he suffered a second round TKO loss in a rematch with Antonio Tarver followed by a KO loss to “The Road Warrior” Glen Johnson and a rubber match decision loss to Tarver October 2005.

Jones returned with wins over top prospects Prince Badi Ajamu and Anthony Hanshaw before meeting legendary Puerto Rican star Felix “Tito” Trinidad then 42-2 at middleweight. Jones started slow but then used his size and speed to floor the former welterweight and middleweight champion him twice enroute to a 117-109, 116-110 times two unanimous decision prompting him to retire.

Looking to parlay the big win over Trinidad Jones took on Joe Calzaghe November 2008 going on to drop the undefeated light heavyweight champion in the opening round, only to fall short losing a 118-109 times three unanimous decision.

Rebounding again Jones went on to stop Omar Sheika in five winning the WBO light heavyweight title then go and defend his title retiring Jeff Lacy in ten setting up a unification fight with Aussie Danny Green who won the vacant IBO International Boxing Organization cruiserweight title on the Jones Lacy undercard. Jones fell short in his attempt to win the cruiserweight title surprisingly being blasted out by the hard hitting Aussie in the opening round. Not exactly a set up fight but whether its money or just human interest there seems to be a calling for a Hopkins / Jones rematch.
