California Denies Antonio Margarito a License
by 5-1 Vote, Next Stop Texas!
(August 18th, 2010) Team Margarito was questioned for over five hours by the California State Athletic Commission before voting down Antonio Margarito’s application to have his license re-instated after serving a year suspension for an illegal substance later identified as plaster of paris in his hand wraps prior to his January 2009 bout with “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
Margarito speaking through a translator apologized and claimed no knowledge of his former trainer Javier Capetillo placement of a “loaded” pad in his hand wraps. Margarito's attorney, Daniel Petrocelli claimed the decision was political claiming that the commission was looking for his client to sit idle one more year.
Margarito already denied in Nevada is attempting to get licensed as he is lined up to be fellow Top Rank fighter Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent November 13th at Cowboys Stadium, Arlington, Texas.
Despite strike two “Team Margarito" appeared hopeful that “The Tijuana Tornado” will be licensed in Texas.
