Statement from Lou DiBella Regarding the Cancellation
of the Allan Green – Mikkel Kessler Bout

(Allan Green)
(August 25, 2010 – New York, NY) On Wednesday morning it was announced by Sauerland Events, promoter of WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler, that due to an eye injury, Kessler was forced to pull out of the SHOWTIME Super Six: World Boxing Classic tournament. As a result, Kessler’s next scheduled tournament bout, a defense of his title vs. Allan Green, has been called off.
The following is a statement from Green promoter Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, on the cancellation and Allan Green’s future: “First and foremost, I want to wish Mikkel Kessler a speedy recovery. Eye injuries are very serious, and I hope Mikkel does everything necessary to heal up and continue his career at the appropriate time.
“Obviously, all of Team Green is bitterly disappointed about not getting the opportunity to travel to Denmark for this great challenge. It is hard not to feel for Allan Green; this is the third training camp in the last year that he has had interrupted for various reasons beyond his control. In the coming days we will sit down with [Showtime Senior Vice President] Ken Hershman to discuss Allan’s future. We trust that Showtime will provide Allan with the opportunity to showcase his skills in a meaningful fight versus a world class opponent in the very near future.”

DiBella Entertainment Roster Continues to Grow,
Adds Detroit Prospect Brian Mihtar to the Fold

(August 23, 2010 – New York, NY) DiBella Entertainment’s ever expanding roster of world champions, top contenders, and the best prospects in boxing continues to grow with the signing of hard punching Detroit product Brian “The Lion” Mihtar (13-1, 10 KOs).
Mihtar, 30, has won four straight since his lone career setback, a tight six round decision loss to veteran Chris Gray in 2008. In his last outing, Mihtar easily outclassed former regional title challenger Robert Kamya.
"Words can't express how thrilled I am to be working with [DiBella Entertainment President] Lou DiBella,” said Mihtar. “My advisor [Greg Leon] and Lou have done a lot of great work together and I've put my trust in them. I know they're going to give me what I've always wanted, which is the opportunity. When they do, I know I'm going to deliver."
Mihtar turned pro in 2003 after a successful amateur career, which included two wins at the prestigious Fiesta Mexicana Boxing Championship, held annually in Detroit. Mihtar is also a leader by nature, having been named Captain of the legendary Kronk Gym team in competitions against rival gyms as an amateur on five different occasions.
His experience and his hometown are what prompted DiBella Entertainment to bring Mihtar on board.
“Brian is a good kid and a compelling fighter, and just being from Detroit speaks to his grit and determination inside the ring,” said Lou DiBella. “Brian will get the opportunity to test himself and prove his mettle under the DBE banner.”
Advising Mihtar through the process of choosing a promoter was Greg Leon, who also advises Showtime Super Six: World Boxing Classic participant Allan Green.
“DiBella Entertainment has a proven track record,” said Leon. “Lou and his company work tirelessly to ensure that their boxers receive opportunities that have eluded them, and it will only be a short amount of time before DBE gives Brian Mihtar what he's been asking for: the chance to allow his skills to propel him to the next level."

IBO Middleweight Peter Manfredo, Jr. Signs Promotional Deal with DiBella Entertainment

(August 17, 2010 – New York, NY) Peter Manfredo, Jr., the reigning IBO middleweight champion, reality TV star, and icon in the New England fight scene, has signed multi-year promotional deal with DiBella Entertainment. Manfredo (35-6, 19 KOs) is coming off a tenth round stoppage of former world title challenger Angel Hernandez in May.
“I am thrilled to sign a promotional deal with DiBella Entertainment,” said Manfredo. “This was made possible through the hard work of my team. My trainer, and dad, Peter Manfredo, Sr. has gotten me back to the basics which made me a world champion, and my manager, Larry Amry, Jr., has guided my career in a manner that has made signing with one of the top promoters in the world a reality.”
Manfredo, 29, of Providence, Rhode Island, has spent the vast majority of his ten-year career matching the mettle with the world’s best from 154-168 pounds. Manfredo holds wins over the likes of Ian Gardner, Grady Brewer, Scott Pemberton, Joey Spina, and former world champion Frankie “The Surgeon” Randall. He has also shared the ring with notables such as Joe Calzaghe, Jeff Lacy, and Sakio Bika.
In 2004, Manfredo was a cast member on the original season of The Contender. As part of the show, Manfredo showcased his talents with wins over Alfonso Gomez, Miguel Espino, and Joey Gilbert, despite losing in the finals to Sergio Mora.
Currently, Manfredo is riding a four fight win streak, with his last two wins taking place at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Despite having fought around the United States, and in three different countries, the Providence native is revered in New England, having fought his first 17 pro fights, and 18 in Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts.
“Peter Manfredo is one of the best hometown attractions in all of boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Not only that, Peter has world class skills to go along with his fan base. While Peter will never be on a pound-for-pound list, he is a great Italian-American warrior, who continues in the tradition of Mancini, Pazienza, and Gatti.”
In addition to holding the IBO title at middleweight, Manfredo is also ranked #15 by the WBC. He will make his DBE debut this autumn as he looks toward more fights with the biggest names middleweight and super middleweight have to offer.
“With DiBella in my corner,” said Manfredo. “I have the strongest team in boxing, and I know that an opportunity to defend my title and fight other champions is now a reality.”

Unbeaten Steven Martinez, Managed by Giants’ Brandon Jacobs,
Signs Promotional Pact with DiBella Entertainment

(August 11, 2010 – New York, NY) Junior middleweight Steven Martinez (5-0, 5 KOs), a former national amateur champion with a perfect record in the professional ranks, has signed a long-term promotional contact with DiBella Entertainment. Martinez is only 20 years old, but the young pug from the Bronx has impressed since turning pro, stopping all five opponents he has shared a ring with.
Along with having a powerful promotional force now backing his career, Martinez is aligned managerially with a pair of heavy hitters, both figuratively and literally. Martinez is co-managed by well-known Jersey powerbroker Pat Lynch, along with star running back from the New York Giants, Brandon Jacobs.
“Steven knows what hard work means. He knows it takes hard work to be a champion in boxing, just like in my business,” said Jacobs. “Even when he doesn’t have anything lined up, he is in the gym working hard.”
After winning the New York regional, Martinez won the 2008 National Golden Gloves tournament in the welterweight division. However, Martinez believes his style was never conducive to the amateur game and his impressive results at that level will be trumped by what he is capable of as a pro.
“In the amateurs, I didn’t have an amateur style,” said Martinez. “I was an amateur champion, but I fight better as a pro. I’m happy I can perform with a great promoter by my side.”
After his successful amateur run, Martinez turned professional in August, 2009 with a first round knockout over Keith Collins in North Bergen, New Jersey. Since then, with the exception of a November, 2009 outing in Las Vegas, Martinez has been plying his trade all around Jersey, just like another fighter who had his career guided by Lynch: the late, great Arturo Gatti.
“Brandon and I are extremely happy that we were able to sign Steven with DiBella Entertainment,” said Lynch. “Lou is a world class promoter, and we think we are going to get where we need to be. We are going to get Steven to a world title.”
Now signed with DiBella Entertainment, President Lou DiBella sees a future champion ready to make his mark in the northeast and beyond.
“Steven is a can’t-miss prospect, who is mature beyond his years both inside and outside the ring,” said DiBella. “He already has a solid team backing him, and with my company in his corner, his potential is great.”

Broadway Boxing at BB King’s: Bracero Gets First Stoppage,
Mendez gets Lopsided Win, Monroe and Jackson Benson Impress and “The Irish Bomber” Remains Perfect!
By: Anthony Genovese (SBB)
July 28th, BB Kings, Times Square, New York: In the main event of Dibella’s Entertainments Broadway Boxing Show Brooklyn’s USBA Super Featherweight Champion Argenis Mendez used his superior speed, height and reach to floor fellow Broolynite Shamir “Isa” Reyes in the opening round of their eight round non title fight. Reyes appearing the stronger fighter attempted to use a head first pressure attack early until he ran into a tight Mendez left dropping the much shorter Reyes just before the closing bell of round one.
The bout turned into one of those fights that styles controlled the bout. Mendez the much sharper, skillful fighter threw punches from all angles pounding the mostly defensive Reyes. The bout was marred by some serious clinching as the much shorter Reyes was unable to establish himself inside.
Mendez appeared at times on the verge of total frustration as Reyes repeatedly dove in grabbing on or was continually backed to the ropes where he sank into a crouch on total defense. Reyes best effort was in the closing seconds of round eight landing three clean shots but Mendez remained patient and was rewarded for the nights work when the scorecards were read 79-72, 80-71 times two Mendez. Mendez advances to 17-1, 9Ko’s while Reyes ducks to 18-7-2, 7Ko’s.
In the semi main event Brooklyn Jr. welterweight Gabriel Bracero flattened Boca Raton, Florida’s Raymond Betancourt three times enroute to a fourth round stoppage, his first in eleven bouts. Bracero decked Betancourt in the first, second and fourth rounds before pounding the game Floridian with a variety of unanswered shots forcing referee Wayne Kelly to call it at 2:53 of round four. Bracero 11-0, 1Ko having recorded his fist stoppage immediately announced to the crowd now that the first has come many will follow. Betancourt falls to 8-5, 3Ko’s.
In Jr. middleweight action Phillip Jackson Benson removed Alexander Santana’s zero with sharp straight counter punches dropping the winging Santana a series of straight punches before pounding him out forcing referee earl brown to halt the action at 1:30 of round three. Benson moves to 6-1, 5Ko’s while Santana suffered his first loss slipping to 6-1, 3Ko’s.
Mastic, Shirley NY light heavyweight prospect Joe “The Irish Bomber” Smith Jr. took a round to loosen up before blasting Chicago, Illinois Charles Wade with a straight right flush on the chin leaving him doing a “Second City” impression of a weeble, wobbling through the referee’s eight count. When the action resumed Smith a certified finisher moved in banging Wade with unanswered power shots from both sides prompting the referee to put a stop to the beating at 1:10 of round two. Smith remains perfect at 6-0, 6Ko’s while Wade continues to look for his second win falling to 1-8, 1Ko.
Unbeaten Rochester, New York middleweight Willie Monroe once again showed his fighting blood lines outclassing Fresno, California’s Loren Myers. Monroe the son of a middleweight contender in the 90’s, and great nephew to Philadelphia’s Willie “The Worm” Monroe who owns a 12th round TKO of “Marvelous” Marvin Hagler jabbed, turned and banged combinations off the head of the tough and rugged Californian opening a cut in the middle of Myers forehead leaving Myers unable to answer the bell for round four. Monroe remains unbeaten moving to 9-0, 3Ko’s while Myers drops to 7-9-1, 2Ko’s.
New York heavyweight Stivens Bujaj made his pro debut in fine fashion pounding Las Vegas, Nevada’s Calvin Rooks until the referee announced checkmate after round two giving Bujaj a TKO victory leaving him 1-0, 1Ko while Rooks who had a plane to catch dipped to 1-2-1.
Lou DiBella did it again! Whether its showcasing top ranked boxers, hot prospects or local talent the result is the same, an entertaining action packed night of pugilism leaving even the toughest boxing critic feeling satisfied.

Argenis Mendez Keeps the Hot Streak Burning
with a Win Over Shamir Reyes on Broadway Boxing
Local Favorites Impress on the Undercard
(July 29, 2010 – New York, NY) Argenis Mendez brought his act to the bright lights of New York City, and shined through and through with a first round knockdown en route to an 8-round unanimous decision victory over local hero Shamir Reyes on Wednesday night. Mendez-Reyes headlined the latest edition of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series, in front of a capacity crowd at the BB King Blues Club and Grill in Times Square.
On an action packed undercard, the local favorites won and won big. All undefeated, and from New York, heavyweight Stivens Bujaj, middleweight Willie Monroe, Jr., light heavyweight Joe Smith, Jr., super middleweight Phillip Jackson Benson, and junior welterweight Gabriel Bracero were all victorious.
Mendez (17-1, 9 KOs) was coming off the biggest win of his career, a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Martin Honorio for the USBA super featherweight title in May. Against Reyes, who brought a vocal contingent of supporters, there was no let up. After controlling much of the first round, Mendez landed a counter right in the waning moments, sending Reyes to the canvas. Reyes (18-7-2, 7 KOs) rose, but despite not going down again, offered little in the way of resistance to Mendez’s polished and balanced attack.
The official scores were 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72, all to Mendez.

Caballero Ponders: “Why should I have problems
feeding my family because I’m too good?”

(June 30, 2010 – New York, NY) Celestino Caballero made his debut at the featherweight division in April with an emphatic and unforgettable 12-round pummeling of the previously unbeaten Daud Yordan. The performance was so unforgettable, in fact, that it hasn’t escaped the memory of any of the champions from super bantamweight to junior lightweight, who are using their best footwork to stay as far away as possible from “Pellenchin.”
Caballero (34-2, 23 KOs) is riding of boxing’s most torrid hot streaks. Unbeaten since 2004, in that six year span Caballero won two belts at super bantamweight and beaten name fighters such as Yordan, Mauricio Pastrana, Steve Molitor, Somsak Sithchatchawal, and Daniel Ponce de Leon.
In recent weeks, rumored bouts against featherweight champions Yuriorkis Gamboa, Juan Manuel Lopez, and Elio Rojas haven’t come to fruition because of the reluctance of the champions to make a deal. Overtures made to the camp of WBA junior lightweight champion Jorge Solis were also rebuffed.
The unwillingness of other top fighters to get in the ring with him has left Caballero waiting for an opportunity he has long deserved.
“Great champions are willing to fight great champions. I should not be victimized by the politics of boxing or the cowardice of other fighters.”
It was reported by several sources that HBO, which aired Caballero’s win over Yordan, preferred a Gamboa-Caballero fight above all other potential opponents for the WBA 126 lb. champ. Gamboa’s promoter, Bob Arum, quickly nixed the proposition, asserting that Caballero’s camp had priced their fighter out. This claim was made before serious discussions with Caballero’s promoter, Lou DiBella, had ever begun.
Now Caballero sits on the sideline, while the networks give out dates to fighters who simply aren’t willing to fight the best opposition.
“We never priced ourselves out of a Gamboa fight,” said DiBella. “In fact, in our preliminary discussions I asked for the same amount of money that I’m hearing Arum is offering to other fighters. There is a big difference between Celestino Caballero, a pound for pound fighter, and Elio Rojas.”
That difference probably explains why Caballero is still on the hunt for a big fight. And so, Caballero ponders, “Why should I have problems feeding my family because I’m too good?”

Edwin Rodriguez Thrills His Hometown Fans
with a Thunderous Stoppage over Late-Sub Ibahiem King
(June 24, 2010 – Worcester, MA) One of the premiere super middleweight prospects in the world, Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, thrilled a crowd of boisterous supporters with a fifth round knockout over tough lefty Ibahiem King on Thursday night at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Mass. Rodriguez vs. King headlined Homecoming II, a special presentation of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series.
Topping a thrilling undercard was 20 year old Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczewski, of nearby Quincy, Mass., winning a unanimous decision over game challenger Juan Nazario, of Miami. Other locals, Rashad Minor and Sonya Lamonakis, were also victorious, along with fast-rising light heavyweight prospect Isiah Thomas, of Detroit.
Even 48 hours before stepping into the ring, Rodriguez (16-0, 12 KOs) was expecting to be challenged by hard-nosed veteran Gabriel Holguin of Laredo, TX. But after Holguin encountered family problems, King, a slick southpaw by way of West Palm Beach, FL, jumped at the opportunity to take on Rodriguez, recently named as one of the Prospects of the Year by ESPN.com.
King (7-4, 2 KOs) proved to be a step up in class for Rodriguez, 25, who was fighting in front of a near capacity crowd in Worcester, the city in which he was born and raised. However, from the outset Rodriguez was determined to crack King’s tricky style with a constant onslaught of punches.
“He was tough,” said Rodriguez of King. “As a southpaw, he had his complications, and we had to figure them out.”
Figure them out, he did. Using a formula of digging to the body to set up vicious shots to the head, Rodriguez finally put King down, for only the second time in his career, in the opening moments of round five. King, who had never been stopped prior to Thursday night, gamely arose only to be sent to the canvas again by a booming right hand.
Immediately upon hitting the deck for the second time referee Javier Colon stopped the bout, lifting the crowd of 1,129 to their feet. The official time was 1:06.
It was triumphant return to the ring, and his hometown, after “La Bomba” had hit the road for his last two fights, scoring knockout wins on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights and Showtime’s ShoBox series, respectively.
“I was able to catch him with good shots,” said Rodriguez. “I knew I had to keep the pressure on and finish him.”
For promoter Lou DiBella, it was another step in the right direction for Rodriguez, who has looked more and more impressive with each outing.
“It was a good performance on just one day notice against a tough southpaw,” said DiBella. “It was a great job by my matchmaker, Joe Quiambao, for finding such a game opponent. Edwin is just an offensive machine.”

Unbeaten Prospect Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez
Moving Up Super Middleweight Ladder

WORCESTER, Mass. (Apr. 26, 2010) – Hot, unbeaten super middleweight prospect Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, coming off of his nationally televised destruction of veteran George “The Rooster” Armenta with a lethal left hook to the body at 47 seconds of the opening round, takes another progressive step April 30, when he takes on rugged Kevin Engel in an 8-round bout April 30 on “The Next Generation of Super Middleweights, live from UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
The show will be presented by Rodriguez’ promoter, DiBella Entertainment, along with Warriors Boxing and 8 Count Productions, airing on “SHOBOX: The Next Generation” at 11 PM/ET.
One of the most promising under-25 prospects in the world, the 24-year-old Dominican Republic native Rodriguez (14-0, 10 KOs), fighting out of Worcester (MA), is already rated No. 12 by the NABO and No. 14 by the NABF.
Rodriguez, the 2005 USA Boxing National Championships and 2006 U.S. National Golden Gloves Tournament gold medalist, remains a relatively unassuming boxer despite drawing raves from the media and public for his past few performances.
“I have to stay grounded and keep working hard to become the fighter I want to be – world champion,” Rodriguez said. “Whether I’m fighting on national TV or not, I go in the ring and shoot for my best performance. I’m working just as hard for this fight as I was for my last fight. I need to keep improving each fight. I’m honored to be part of ‘The Next Generation of Super Middleweights,’ but I remain level-headed and work very hard in the gym.”
Engel (17-2) arguably represents Rodriguez’ toughest opponent to date, something that Edwin has faced fight-by-fight on a regular basis in order to improve. The knockout artist from St. Louis fighter, who has stopped 14 of 17 victims, has fought mostly as a light heavyweight, winning the World Boxing Foundation title in 2007.
“I know he is a kick-boxer; an athlete with a good right hand,” Rodriguez noted. “I’ll be working to stay away from his right. Every fight I try and make a statement and this fight I want to prove to everyone that, my last fight was an impressive performance, not a fluke. I’ve been working hard in the gym and will get the job done. I’m ready.”
Rodriguez is managed by Elite Management (Larry Army) and trained by Peter Manfredo, Sr. Go online to www.edwinrodriguezboxing.com for more information about Edwin Rodriguez.

UNDEFEATED LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT MARK TUCKER
INKS PROMOTIONAL DEAL WITH DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT

(New York, NY – April 22, 2010) DiBella Entertainment (“DBE”) made another significant addition to its stable, signing unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Mark “TNT” Tucker. Tucker, 22, fighting out of Eldersburg, Maryland has hit the ground running in his two year pro career, amassing a 13-0 record with 7 KOs.
Tucker had an impressive 2009, stepping in with and defeating numerous respected veterans the likes of former world title challengers Rubin “Hollywood” Williams and Ross “The Boss” Thompson. With DBE in his corner, Tucker has big plans for his career in 2010.
“I want to stay undefeated, get a bigger fan base, and appear on television more,” said Tucker, who has already made a habit of regularly selling out venues in Maryland. “I believe DBE can get me there.”
Tucker, who legally has “TNT” in his name, had a successful amateur run, compiling a 140-22 record under the watchful eye of his father/trainer Mark “Spirit Bear” Tucker, Sr.
Despite guiding his son to where he is now, the elder Mark, who remains on board as manager and head trainer, is comfortable handing the promotional reigns of his son’s career over to DBE.
“I’ve done all I can do for him,” said Tucker, Sr. “We’ve built him up with a fan base locally. Now it’s time for him to get national exposure and national TV fights and we believe Lou DiBella is the right man for the job.”
The DBE stable of unbeaten prospects is an impressive one, including heavyweight Tor Hamer, light heavyweight Isiah Thomas, super middleweights Marcus Johnson and Edwin Rodriguez, middleweights Aleem Whitfield and Willie Monroe, Jr., and super featherweight Luis Del Valle. Tucker adds another exciting young prospect to that list.
“Mark is only 22 years old; the sky is the limit in terms of what he can accomplish in a boxing ring,” said DiBella. “Mark, Jr. and his father have already gone through so much that a little adversity in the boxing ring won’t faze him at all. They have a remarkable story and I believe it will help guide them to a successful boxing career.”
The story DiBella alludes to involves “TNT” and “Spirit Bear” learning to survive living in the woods after their house burned down when the junior Mark was just a baby.
Three years back, Tucker’s career was almost permanently put on hold when he suffered third degree burns on his left arm, up to his left hand. A minor medical miracle, Mark was cleared to fight just four months later in a national amateur tournament and his since regained full strength in that left hand.
All adversity behind them the Tuckers are ready to move forward.
“I see myself becoming a world champion, and staying undefeated for a long time,” said “TNT,” “I wouldn’t mind being pound for pound one day.”

MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION SERGIO MARTINEZ CALLS FOR A BOXING INITIATIVE AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

(Oxford, CA – April 20, 2010) Newly crowned world champion Sergio Martinez won the biggest fight of his career last Saturday night, a stunning and emphatic decision over Kelly Pavlik to capture the WBC and WBO world middleweight championship belts.
Now, he’s joining a fight of even greater significance.
In the wake of the tragic murder of Edwin Valero’s wife Jennifer Viera, and Valero’s subsequent suicide, Martinez is making his voice heard, taking a stand against violence against women.
“I love and respect women. Violence against women is simply unacceptable. The great number of cases, too often involving athletes, requires action.” said Martinez. “I have always confided in my mother and consider myself to be a momma’s boy; women must be respected, not abused.”
Like in the ring, where Martinez is known to back up his words, he promises that his stance against domestic violence is more than just lip service. He plans begin a campaign in the boxing community to reinforce that fighting is meant for the ring, not for the home.
“Sergio is going to petition the different sanctioning bodies and the different boxing dignitaries to make them know he is serious in this effort,” said Martinez’s advisor, Sampson Lewkowicz. “We can create a foundation that makes a world of difference to women everywhere.”
Martinez has also asked his promoter, Lou DiBella, to enlist the help of the Boxing Promoters Association in this effort.
“I am proud of Sergio for attempting to use his newfound fame to help address a terrible problem, which must be eradicated,” said DiBella.
It is the hope of Martinez that as he travels the world as a champion, he will be able to help spread this message.
“My middleweight championship gives me a voice,” said Martinez. “I will use this voice in an effort to protect women from senseless violence and abuse.”

Results Broadway Boxing BB Kings March 31st

March 31st BB King Blues Club & Grill, New York: In a scheduled eight rounder unbeaten Joel “Joelo” Torres started as expected taking the opening two rounds from veteran Leo Martinez. Despite falling behind Martinez began to pick up the pace zeroing in his jab which kept the slower Torres off balance. Martinez kept up the work building combinations scoring from both sides.
Having taken control of the fight in third round Martinez would not let the deteriorating Torres ruin his night scoring with a ripping left, right, body head combination dropping Torres for a full referee Steve Willis count at 1:23 of the final round. Torres suffered his first loss falling to 11-1, 7Ko’s while Martinez added a win moving to 15-12, Ko’s.

New York’s own heavyweight Tor Hamer made an easy night of it winning a lopsided 60-54, 60-53, 59-54 decision over Paterson, New Jersey Alexis Mejias sting him early putting him in survival mode allowing the “Hamer” to retain his zero advancing to 11-0, 8Ko’s while giving Mejias his third straight loss dropping him to 10-4, 4Ko’s.
In a battle of unbeaten but light handed welterweights Gabriel “Tito” Bracero started well winning the opening round but Winston “The Rochester Reaper” Mathis made it a fight in the second with a spirited round where the action carried on after the bell. In the third Bracero began to box establishing a crisp jab which turned out to be the difference earning Bracero a 59-55 times three unanimous decision. Bracero remains unbeaten at 9-0, 0Ko’s while Mathis drops to 6-1, 2Ko’s.
Morganville, New Jersey’s “Momma’s Boy” middleweight Denis Douglin jumped Parkersburg, West Virginia’s cagey veteran Chad “Taz” Greenleaf early blasting him out with a volley of shots causing referee Steve Willis to stop the bout at 1:27 of the opening round of their scheduled six rounder. “Momma’s Boy” climbs to 9-0, 4Ko’s while Greenleaf falls to 12-15-1, 5Ko’s.
Brooklyn’s super middleweight Phillip Jackson Benson advaced to 5-1, 4Ko’s shutting out Bronx southpaw Victor Paz, 40-35 times three giving Paz his fifth straight loss dropping him to .500 at 9-9-1, 1Ko. Paz hasn’t seen a W since 2005.
New York female flyweight “Fire” Keisher Mcleod Wells now 3-1, 1Ko returned to her winning ways out working and out scoring Laura “La Maravilla” Gomez over four earning a 40-36 times three unanimous decision giving Gomez her first loss marking her record at 3-1, 0Ko.

Hot Prospect Edwin Rodriguez
Coming Off Search and Destroy Mission

WORCESTER, Mass. (Mar. 29, 2010) – When undefeated prospect Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez drilled veteran George “The Rooster” Armenta with a lethal left hook to the body, stopping their ESPN Friday Night Fights bout at 47-seconds of the opening round, many boxing fans had memories of another New England boxer famous for his left hook, “Irish” Micky Ward.
“It was a perfect shot,” Rodriguez described the aforementioned hook. “Micky Ward was so good at it and I’ve been practicing to get better. As soon as I hit him, I knew that he was hurt. I held back with the right but I knew he’s strong and, if he came back, I was going to take him out.”
Rodriguez (14-0, 10 KOs), fighting out of Worcester (MA), made his nationally televised debut March 19 against Armenta (13-6, 11 KOs), who had knocked out 2000 U.S. Olympian Dante Craig and extended current WBA light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman and top contender Sechew Powell the full distance. Armenta had never been floored before, never mind stopped, until he was cracked by the Dominican Republic-born super middleweight Rodriguez.
“I did break a sweat,” Rodriguez jokingly said about the 47-second stoppage, “but in the locker room before I came out to the ring. I’m here for the long run, though, and will be world champion. I’m well-grounded; I don’t get carried away about what’s said about me being a top prospect or fighting on national television. I need to continue working hard. I’m traveling a long road to become world champion. I want to improve every fight.”
Rodriguez, the 2005 USA Boxing National Championships and 2006 U.S. National Golden Gloves Tournament gold medalist, will be back in action April 30 against Kevin Engel (17-2, 14 KOs). Edwin will be fighting for the first time on a ShoBox: The New Generation card in an 8-round co-feature.
Rodriguez is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, managed by Elite Management (Larry Army), and trained by Peter Manfredo, Sr. Go online to www.edwinrodriguezboxing.com for more information about Edwin and his team.

RANDALL BAILEY KNOCKS OUT JACKSON BONSU
IN ONE ROUND IN IBF WELTERWEIGHT ELIMINATOR

(Antwerpen, Belgium – March 19, 2010) New weight class, same result.
After 13 years and 46 fights in the junior welterweight division, Randall “The Knock Out King” Bailey cemented his spot as a top contender just two fights into his welterweight campaign on Friday night in Belgium, demolishing local favorite Jackson Bonsu (31-4, 24 KOs) in one round in an IBF eliminator.
Bailey (41-7, 36 KOs) made his welterweight debut December 12, 2009 in Chicago, dropping long time contender Germaine Sanders three times en route to an eight round decision.
“Randall is the biggest puncher in boxing today and demolished a world class welterweight,” said Bailey’s promoter, Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “His run of fights in the last few years has been awesome from an offensive standpoint. In the welterweight division, Randall Bailey is the scariest guy on the block.”
With the win, Bailey now finds himself #2 in the IBF rankings, and will await a shot against title holder Jan Zaveck or prepare himself for the other big names in the division.
“He’s got a big name in the United States and he’s got the biggest punch in the world. Our plans are to pursue a title or the biggest money fight possible,” said DiBella.

Jan. 30th Welterweight Championship Unification Fight
Between Shane Mosley and Andre Berto Cancelled

LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK (January 18, 2010) – WBC Welterweight World Champion Andre Berto stated in a personal press release earlier today that due to the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti and deeply affected his family who resides there, he is physically and emotionally unable to prepare for his Saturday, Jan. 30 bout with WBA Welterweight World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley and, as a result, will withdraw from the bout. Given the close proximity to the date of the event and the difficulty in finding a suitable replacement for Berto, the event will be cancelled entirely.
Mosley commented from his training camp in Big Bear, Calif. and said, “I’m disappointed that the fight has been called off, but I understand that Andre is going through a very difficult time. My heart goes out to him, his family and the people of Haiti during the aftermath of this terrible tragedy. I’m sorry for the losses that Andre and all of the Haitian people are suffering. I have everyone in my prayers.”
All tickets previously purchased for the Mosley-Berto fight can be refunded at the original point of sale.
The thoughts and prayers of Shane Mosley, Golden Boy Promotions, DiBella Entertainment, the MGM MIRAGE family, HBO and the boxing world are all with Berto, his family and the people of Haiti as well.
Please note that all scheduled media events in connection with Mosley vs. Berto will be cancelled.

CINTRON: “HEY OSCAR, I AM READY, WILLING, AND ABLE!”

(January 14, 2010) After reading comments made to the Puerto Rican press by the President of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya, stating that Kermit Cintron is “a great choice” to take on Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in the spring, Cintron has set out to make sure de la Hoya knows the interest is mutual.
Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) has been recognized as one of boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighter for several years, but has recently come under scrutiny for not taking on the perceived toughest opposition. However, there will be no such pubic umbrage over a bout with Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs), who has twice held the welterweight crown and whose only losses have come at the hands of Antonio Margarito, a fighter currently under suspension for tampering with his gloves.
“There is no bigger fan of Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s talent than myself,” said Cintron. “But the whole world wants to see Floyd fight a big, strong welterweight, and that’s where I step in. Everyone knows I can punch and Alfredo Angulo will tell you I can box, too. If Floyd wants to prove he’s a legit welterweight, I’m the guy he needs to fight.”
Cintron handed the highly touted Angulo his first and only loss in a brilliant effort last May.
Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, which represents Cintron, is at the ready and waiting to strike a deal whenever he hears from members of the Mayweather camp.
“Oscar and Richard [Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions] know me very well and they know I’m easy to deal with,” said DiBella. “We can have a deal made in an hour if this is the direction Floyd wants to take.”

MARTINEZ: “I PLAN ON BEING WBC CHAMPION FOR A LONG TIME!!!”

(Martinez scoring one of many right hands against Paul Williams)
(January 11, 2010) With rumors swirling about what will be happening with the WBC 154 lb. title, champion Sergio Martinez has come out to set the record straight. In short, despite the wishes of some to become champion without having to go through “Maravilla”, Martinez has no plans on relinquishing the belt anytime soon.
“Everyone who knows me knows that I cherish the green belt more than any other accomplishment I’ve ever had in boxing,” said Martinez. “If people are looking for an excuse to become champion without fighting me, I have bad news for them. I plan on being WBC Champion for a long time.”
As for future plans, Martinez is gung-ho about chasing down the big name fights that had eluded him prior to his December 5 slugfest with Paul Williams. But even a move up to middleweight for a bout with Kelly Pavlik or a rematch with Williams will have no bearing on his standing as WBC champion.
I know I may have to move up in weight to fight Pavlik or Williams,” said Martinez. “But I will not make any decision on the belt until after the fight.”

CINTRON: “A FIGHT BETWEEN COTTO AND I MAKES THE MOST SENSE IT’S ABOUT PUERTO RICAN PRIDE!”

ALL CONTENDERS FROM 147 TO 154 ARE ON KERMIT CINTRON’S HOLIDAY WISH-LIST THIS YEAR
(December 21, 2009) It’s Christmas time, but despite having a great family to share the season with, Kermit Cintron is feeling a little lonely. That’s because since his May victory over highly touted contender Alfredo Angulo, it seems as though everyone else from welterweight (where he has twice held world titles) to junior middleweight (where he pulled a convincing upset over Angulo) has forgotten about Cintron, the WBC #2, WBO #2, IBF #3 ranked contender.
To bide his time, Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs) fulfilled a lifelong dream by returning to his native Puerto Rico and stopping Juliano Ramos in five rounds. Now he’s back on the prowl for the biggest names and toughest challenges.
“I don’t discriminate,” said Cintron. “From 147 to 154, I feel like I can beat anyone in the world. My only two losses were to a guy who was later found to have loaded gloves. Almost no else has a track record as good as mine, and yet everyone else seems to be getting opportunities.”
Among those getting opportunities is Angulo, who was back on the HBO airwaves six months after losing to Cintron in a battle for the interim WBO junior middleweight title against untested Harry Joe Yorgey. Angulo won easily and is now planning his first title defense while Cintron sits in limbo.
“How does this make sense? I beat Angulo and he gets two more dates like it’s nothing,” asked Cintron. “Since I beat Angulo, the only fight I’ve been offered was to fight Joshua Clottey and I was already scheduled to fight down in Puerto Rico. So my DiBella Entertainment stablemate Carlos Quintana took the fight, and it ended up getting cancelled anyways.”
While Cintron is eager to fight the best from 147 to 154, it is a fight against fellow Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto that tops his wish list.
“A fight between Cotto and I makes the most sense. It’s about Puerto Rican pride,” said Cintron. “There could not be a bigger fight than me versus Cotto on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. What would make no sense would be for Cotto to give Margarito another fight.”
If a fight versus Cotto cannot happen, Cintron is willing to put to clear up any questions that remain with regard to his bout against Sergio Martinez.
“Because the Cotto fight wouldn’t happen until June, I’d like to get a rematch against Sergio Martinez. Some people disputed the draw. Look, the guy wore so much hair gel and moose, that the fumes were making me dizzy. And I still managed to put it on him on only 4 weeks’ notice. Let’s clear the air for good. With an eight week camp, I knock him out. Simple as that!”

Rigondeaux Shines under the Bright Lights of Broadway Boxing!
![]()
Four More Unbeaten Prospects Pass Another Test
(December 17, 2009) Guillermo Rigondeaux stayed calm and collected, and in doing so notched his fourth pro win in as many fights, with an eight round unanimous decision win over Lante Addy. The bout headlined Thursday’s Broadway Boxing event from the BB King Blues Club & Grill in New York City.
On the undercard, four other undefeated up-and-comers: heavyweight Tor Hamer, featherweight Luis Del Valle, and junior welterweights Gabriel Bracero and Christian Martinez all kept their perfect records in tact with convincing wins.
Rigondeaux (4-0, 3 KOs), a Cuban native who won two Olympic gold medals for his homeland prior to defecting earlier this year, wasted no time establishing his supremacy. In the opening minute of the bout, a straight left from the Freddie Roach-trained southpaw, Rigondeaux, put Addy on his back. However, the game challenger rose, and continued to look for spots to counter Rigondeaux’s assault.
As the fight wore on it became apparent that Addy (6-5-1, 4 KOs), originally from Ghana but now based in the United States, simply didn’t have the firepower to match Rigondeaux’s onslaught. Over the course of he final rounds, Rigondeaux boxed beautifully as he coasted home to a unanimous decision win. Final scores were 80-71, 80-71, and 79-72.
Quick Results: Guillermo Rigondeaux (4-0, 3 KOs) UD8 (80-71, 80-71, 79-72) Lante Addy (6-5-1, 4 KOs)
Tor Hamer (10-0, 8 KO) TKO1 (1:38) Mazur Ali (6-5, 3 KOs)
Gabriel Bracero (8-0) UD6 (60-53, 59-54, 58-55) Carl McNickols (6-2, 2 KOs)
Luis Del Valle (8-0, 6 KOs) TKO2 (3:00) Noe Lopez (5-5, 4 KOs)
Christian Martinez (2-0, 2 KOs) TKO1 (:58) Gabriel Morrris (1-5-1, 1 KO)

Statement from Lou DiBella on the Career of Jermain Taylor
“I have just been informed though numerous press reports that Jermain Taylor has elected to continue his participation in The Super Six: World Boxing Classic tournament, and will face Andre Ward in April. It is with a heavy heart, but strong conviction, that I will recuse myself and DiBella Entertainment as Jermain’s promoter.
“Jermain’s career has been outstanding, and it has been a pleasure and honor to promote him. His victories against Bernard Hopkins remain the highlights of my career as a promoter. Jermain is not only a great fighter, but a good and decent man with a wonderful family. It is out of genuine concern for him and his family that I am compelled to make this decision.
“I informed him, as I do all my contracted fighters, that my goal was to help his secure financial stability for his family, maximize his potential, and leave our unforgiving sport with his health intact.
“It is my belief that the continuation of Jermain’s career as an active fighter places him at unnecessary risk. While he is undoubtedly capable of prevailing in future bouts, I cannot, in conscience, remain involved given my assessment of such risk.
“I wish Jermain all the best in his future endeavors. All of us at DiBella Entertainment hold Jermain close to our hearts and consider him and his family part of our family. We wish him Godspeed and continued health.” - Lou DiBella

Team Cintron Livid Over Interim Title Fight

With his win over Alfredo Angulo in May, Kermit Cintron earned the position as the top ranked contender to WBO Junior Middleweight champion Sergiy Dzinziruk. So, imagine the surprise of Team Cintron when they learned Saturday’s bout between #4 ranked Angulo, and #5 ranked Harry Joe Yorgey would be for the WBO’s interim title at 154 lbs.
The basis of the interim title fight taking place is the inactivity of Dzinziruk, who has not stepped into the ring since a November, 2008 defense vs. Joel Julio. However, based on the WBO’s ratings Cintron would be first in line for a crack at the interim belt. Yet, no offer was ever extended to Team Cintron to fight for the interim title, despite Kermit being ready to compete following a fifth round knockout over Juliano Ramos on October 24 in Puerto Rico.
“What sense does it make that I beat Angulo and now he gets to fight for the interim title, when I am the top contender,” asked Cintron. “I have done nothing but bide my time waiting for Dzinziruk, and now I’m on the outside looking in.”
The explanation given by those behind the interim title fight is that Cintron did not push himself for a bout with full title holder Dzinziruk earlier this year. That, however, is not accurate given Dzinziruk’s public, drawn out feud with promoter, Universum, his lack of marketability, and the absence of a mandatory notice from the WBO or a negotiating period being established.
Josh Dubin, the advisor and attorney to Cintron, is enraged by the decision of the WBO to sanction Angulo-Yorgey for the interim title and warns that he will do everything possible to ensure Kermit is treated with the respect he has earned.
“Boxing becomes problematic when fighters earn their stature outside, instead of inside the ring,” said Dubin. “Kermit earned his spot in the rankings by clearly defeating Alfredo Angulo in the ring. I am advising the WBO that we will take any appropriate action to ensure that Kermit Cintron is treated in accordance with his ranking. Two fighters below Kermit in the ratings have been elevated into greater financial opportunities and a better standing with the WBO. We will not tolerate Kermit being financially damaged by arbitrary and capricious decision making.”

Cintron Keeps Options Open Retires Ramos at Home!!

Saturday, October 24th, Roberto Clemente Stadium in Carolina, Puerto Rico: DiBella Entertainments Kermit “Killer” Cintron, 32-2-1, 28Ko’s returned home to drop then stop Brazil’s Juliano Ramos, 15-3, 12Ko’s ending it in the fifth round of their junior middleweight bout on Saturday night.
Cintron did his best to give his fans their money’s worth but by round four he had figured Ramos out and began to inflict damage landing big right hands until a “Killer” looping right hurt Ramos prompting his corner to call it with the tough Brazilian retiring on his stool at the sound of round five.
Cintron’s only two losses come at the plaster hands of Antonio Margarito and with wins over Alfredo Angulo, Lovemore N'dou, Jesse Feliciano, Walter Dario Matthysse and a draw with Sergio Gabriel Martinez it should be enough to put him right in the middle of the Cotto, Pacquiao, Mosley sweepstakes or the winner of the WBA World light middleweight title fight between Yuri Foreman and Daniel Santos November 14th.

Green, Smith, Johnson, Monroe, Hamerand Rodriguez
Win During DiBella Entertainment’s 6-0, Weekend!
Whether in Oklahoma or Rhode Island, it was a clean sweep for DiBella Entertainment (“DBE”) this past weekend as one of the best super middleweights in the world, and five of the best young prospects in all of boxing, scored impressive wins in their quests to reach the world championship level.
The winnings ways started on Friday night at the First Council Casino in Newkirk, Oklahoma where DBE presented a televised triple header on Showtime’s ShoBox series. In the main event, WBC #6, WBO #9, IBF #11, WBA #12 ranked super middleweight Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs) won a dominant unanimous over late replacement, Tarvis Simms(25-1-1, 11 KOs). Green was originally scheduled to face rugged, power puncher Victor Oganov (26-2, 26 KOs) as he waits for an opportunity to enter Showtime’s Super Six: World Boxing Classic tournament. Instead, in Simms he faced a slick boxer who changed stances several times throughout the course of the contest. Nevertheless, Green proved he could adapt to any style by winning nearly every round.
“Allan trained for Victor Oganov and Oganov is nothing like Tarvis,” said promoter Lou DiBella. “It was a dominating win against a skilled pro that was impossible to look impressive against.”
The co-feature matched two of the best young welterweights in the world as DBE’s own Antwone Smith (17-1, 9 KOs) battled previously unbeaten Henry Crawford (22-1-1, 9 KOs). Crawford started strong, winning the first two rounds with his tremendous speed, but for the rest of the fight, Smith began flashing the skills that have led him to upset wins over Richard Gutierrez and Norberto Gonzalez in his previous two fights. Smith dropped Crawford once in round six, and again in round nine before Crawford’s corner had seen their man get beat up too much.
At only 22 years of age, Smith has already faced, and defeated, stiffer competition than many top contenders in the game. Given his age, and experience, the prognosis on Smith’s career appears to be a limitless future.
“Antwone again proved he’s one of the best young fighters in the game by stopping Crawford,” said DiBella. “There is no 22-year old pro in the country with more impressive wins than Antwone Smith. With DBE behind him, he’ll be given the best opportunities to meet his potential.”
In the televised opener, unbeaten super middleweight prospect Marcus Johnson (18-0, 14 KOs) faced the stiffest test of his young career, and passed with flying colors, by winning an 8-round decision over Victor Villereal (8-4-2, 4 KOs). Johnson dropped Villereal in round six and coasted the rest of the way to an 80-71, 80-71, 79-72 decision. The dominance of Johnson’s performance was even more impressive considering that he hurt his hand sixth round and had to switch styles, opting to box Villereal instead of going for the kill.
“Marcus Johnson is a beast-in-waiting and a skilled boxer,” said DiBella. “When he hurt his right hand the boxer took over. Given the adversity, I thought it was a real impressive performance against a tough pro.”
Even when the television cameras weren’t rolling in Oklahoma, DBE was. On the non-televised portion of the show middleweight prospect Willie Monroe, Jr. (6-0, 2 KOs), and heavyweight prospect Tor Hamer (9-0, 7 KOs) scored big wins. Monroe won a 4-round decision over Tyson Schwieger, while Hamer continued his trend of winning, and winning big, by knocking out Howard Jones 22 seconds into the first round.
“Willie and Tor are two fighters on course for greatness,” said DiBella. “Tor showed what a monster he can be, and Willie did his thing by out-slicking a game challenger. They might have different styles, but these are two fighters with endless potential.”
Although the ring in the Oklahoma was dismantled, and ShoBox went off the air, that didn’t stop DBE from taking their winning act elsewhere. Saturday, on a card promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports from the Twin Rivers Event Center in Lincoln, Rhode Island, young prodigy Edwin Rodriguez (12-0, 8 KOs) passed the stiffest test of his professional career with a unanimous decision win over Darnell Boone (16-13-2, 6 KOs).
Boone, who has made a career out of derailing top prospects, was simply no match for Rodriguez’s accurate punching and slick boxing skills. A shutout win over a an experienced warhorse like Boone has the whole DBE team excited over hometown hero from Worcester, Massachusetts.
“In another New England main event, Edwin proved himself against stepped up competition,” said DiBella. “He’s on course to be a ranked and television-showcased fighter. Thanks to world-class promoter Jimmy Burchfield for giving Edwin the chance to showcase his skills not too far from his home.”

Bailey’s Punch had Urango Down but not Out!!

(August 31, 2009) In one of the best title fights in recent memory, Randall Bailey fell just short in his bid to wrangle the IBF junior welterweight title from Juan Urango on the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights season finale last Friday. However, after putting Urango on his back with a pulverizing straight right hand in the sixth round, he left little doubt that even at 34 years old, he remains one of boxing’s premiere punchers. Now, after over a decade of fighting at the 140-lb. limit and recently struggling to make weight, Bailey is ready for a change and a move up the welterweight division.
“I have been fighting at 140 since I was a teenager,” said Bailey. “I know that at welterweight I will be bigger, even stronger, and when I put an opponent on the deck, they won’t get up.”
In his years fighting at junior welterweight, Bailey certainly left his mark. He won the WBO title in 1999 with a first round knockout of reigning champion Carlos Gonzalez and defended it twice – both times via knockout. During his time spent there, almost no fighter was immune to his power, given that 35 of his 39 wins came as the result of a knockout.
Despite the loss to Urango in what he has decided will be his ultimate bout at junior welterweight, Bailey showed he can still compete with the very best, and put on as exciting a show as any fighter in any weight class. And Bailey’s promoter Lou DiBella is excited to steer him to a title opportunity at this new weight class.
“If the fight proved anything it is that Randall Bailey is unquestionably one of the biggest punchers in boxing,” said DiBella. “We believe his right hand is a threat to anyone fighting at welterweight. Congratulations to ESPN2 for a great show and to Seminole Warriors Boxing and Juan Urango for a great win. Now it is time to see what Randall can do when making weight is not an issue.”

ARGENIS MENDEZ, DBE PROSPECTS SHINE
ON BROADWAY BOXING FROM SOLD OUT
B.B. KING BLUES CLUB & GRILL IN TIMES SQUARE
(August 27, 2009) It was 80 degrees in New York City on Wednesday, but the real heat was at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, where a sold out crowd watched DiBella Entertainment showcase some of the best young talent in boxing. In the main event, 2004 Dominican Republic Olympian Argenis Mendez scored a fifth round knockout over hardnosed veteran Anthony Napunyi in a super featherweight contest.
Mendez (14-1, 9 KOs) systematically broke down Napunyi (14-7, 7 KOs) with impressive hand speed and impeccable accuracy until referee Michael Ortega was forced to step in and halt the proceedings. It was a wildly successful first outing under the DiBella Entertainment promotional banner for Mendez.
“Argenis Mendez showed all the skills necessary to become one of the best super featherweights in the world,” said Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment. “He has all the tools you would expect out of a former Olympian and all the polish of a 15-fight veteran. The sky is the limit for his future.”
The undercard was filled with other young prospects doing their best to impress the New York crowd. Joel Torres (11-0-1, 7 KOs), originally scheduled to be in the main event before his opponent fell out, scored a first round stoppage over Washington Hago (5-4, 3 KOs). Unbeaten heavyweight Tor Hamer (8-0, 6 KOs) suffered the first knockdown of his career, but impressed the rest of the way to win a six round decision vs. Theron Johnson (3-2). One of the newest members of the DBE stable, featherweight Luis Del Valle (6-0, 4 KOs) impressively stopped Robert Guillen (4-4-2) in the fifth round. Welterweight Gabriel Bracero (6-0), trained by Tommy Gallagher won the sixth straight decision to begin his career by dominating Melchor Guillen (1-3). Featherweight Eddie Irizarry (7-1, 2 KOs) dropped Felix Flores (14-11-1, 11 KOs) twice en route to winning a six round decision. In the night’s opening bout, exciting young heavyweight Ahmed Samir (7-0, 1 KO) outworked Clarence Tillman (2-3, 2 KOs) to win a four round decision.
For all the fighters who came out on top, the real winners last night were the nearly 600 fans who packed the B.B. King Blues Club for the event, selling out the venue, and making for a tremendous atmosphere. From a crowd perspective, it was one of the most exciting events in the history of the Broadway Boxing series.
“The crowd is what made this night so special,” said DiBella. “To see all these people come out, pack this great venue, and enjoy a night at the fights is what Broadway Boxing is all about.”

Broadway Boxing Results from BB King’s
![]()
By: Ethan Doutney
Wednesday, August 26th: Lou DiBella's Broadway Boxing brought another solid night of entertaining fisticuffs to legendary BB King Blues Club & Grill, NY, NY last night. The seven fight card showcased some of the areas up and coming fighters showing their eagerness to take the next step

The main event featured Dominican junior welter Argenis Mendez, 14-1, 8Ko’s and Kenya’s Anthony Napunyi 14-7, 7Ko’s in a scheduled eight-rounder. The tough Kenyan held his own early on until about midway through the fourth round he collected a right left combination driving him backwards only to be saved by the ropes. Never fully recovering from the heavy fourth round combo the game visitor could not avoid a Mendez onslaught causing referee Benji Esteves to call the action at 2:25 of the fifth round.
Last minute replacement Washington Hago from Woodside, New York now 5-4, 3Ko’s was no match for Puerto Rico’s undefeated light welterweight Joel Torres, who moved to 11-0-1, 7Ko’s. Torres made the punishment quick, banging Hago out with a heavy right in the first round convincing his corner was to evacuate the area tossing in the towel looking to make the next train back to Queens ending the fight at 1:49of round one. Torres only blemish remains a controversial draw with Christopher “Kid Kayo’ Fernandez May 2008.

“Tor" Hamer slipped a bit picking himself up off the deck in the sixth round after ending up on the operational end of a counter left hook but still managed to climbed to 8-0, 6Ko’s winning a 58-55, 57-56 times two unanimous decision over Chicago's light punching Theron Johnson 3-2, 0Ko’s.
Bronx, NY featherweight "Crazy” Eddie Irizarry improved to 7-1, 2Ko’s dropping 35 year-old Felix Flores 14-11-1, 11Ko’s winning a 59-53 decision times over six rounds.

22 year old rising star Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle, registered his fifth stoppage in six bouts remaining undefeated disposing of Glendale, Arizona’s Robert ‘Big Bob” Guillen, 4-4-2, 0Ko’s. DeValle rocked Guillen several times before finishing him with a right left at 0:44 of the fifth round.
Brooklyn welterweight Gabriel “Tito” Bracero won his sixth fight since March 2001 improving to 6-0 with a one sided unanimous decision over Melchior, Guillen giving Guillen his third straight loss, 40-36 times three.
Egyptian heavyweight Ahmen “Prince of Egypt” Samir fighting out of Brooklyn NY remained undefeated moving to 7-0, 2Ko’s winning a triple 39-37 unanimous decision over Henderson, Nevada’s Clarence Tillman, 2-3-1, 2Ko’s. __________________________________________________________________________________________________
DiBella Entertainment Inks Prospect Luis Del Valle
Looks Towards Puerto Rican Market!!!

(July 30, 2009) DiBella Entertainment has continued its streak of signing the best young talent in boxing by inking unbeaten featherweight Luis Del Valle. Del Valle (5-0, 3 KOs) is a native of Bayamon, Puerto Rico and signifies another step in DBE’s growing presence on the island.
Del Valle, now fighting out of Newburgh, NY, made an impression at a young age coming through the amateur ranks. His triumphs include first place finishes at the 2004 National Golden Gloves, 2005 Under 19 National Amateur Championship, and 2006 Six Nations Cup.
Now five fights into his pro career, his skill set looks like it is transferring seamlessly from the amateur to professional ranks. His sixth fight, and DBE debut, will take place August 26 as a part of Broadway Boxing at BB King Blues Club & Grill in the heart of Times Square.
“It’s a blessing to be with one of the most established promotional companies in the business,” said Del Valle. “Now that Lou DiBella has put his trust in me, the sky will be the limit starting August 26.”
The significance of Del Valle joining the DiBella Entertainment team goes far beyond just signing another great talent. It is also yet another example of DBE’s foray into the Puerto Rican market. Already in the stable are Broadway Boxing headliner Joelo Torres, along with top contenders Kermit Cintron and Carlos Quintana.
“This is a market we are going to seriously tap into,” said DiBella. “Luis Del Valle showed how great he can be as an amateur, and is unquestionably one of the top prospects of Puerto Rican descent in the world. I look forward to steering him towards a world title, while continuing to keep and eye out for the best young talent of Puerto Rican ancestry”
Tickets for Luis Del Valle’s next fight, on the August 26 edition of Broadway Boxing, are on sale and can be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at 212-947-2577.
Tickets are $125 for VIP Ringside, $100 for Ringside Tables, $75 for Floor Seats, and $55 for General Admission. Additional information can be found by visiting DBE on the web at www.dbe1.com ___________________________________________________________________________________________
DBE Stars Help Out in Community
Malignaggi to Throw Out First Pitch!!!
(Paulie"The Magic Man" and Lou DiBella)
(July 23, 2009) WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto has always relied on his heart to give him an extra edge over opponents inside the boxing ring. Now he’s using his heart to make a difference outside the ring.
On Friday, July 24th, Berto (25-0, 19 KOs) will appear at the Citrus Center Boys & Girls Club in his hometown of Winter Haven, Florida with a check for $10,000 and a special message for the youngsters who use the club as a way to keep themselves off the streets, much the way he did growing up.
Berto will give what is known as a Pride Talk, the same kind of motivational speech he listened to during his days at the Boys & Girl Club. It’s his hope that his words have the same impact on the kids at the Club that the speeches he listened to had on him.
"The Boys and Girls Club was like a second home for me as a kid. I want these kids to see that if they work hard enough, they can make their own dreams come true, just like I have," said Berto. "I have been blessed through boxing and I want to share some of my blessings with the Boys and Girls Club and Polk County."
Berto’s speech, along with the presentation of his donation, will begin at 1pm. The Citrus Center Boys & Girls Club is located at 2400 Havendale Blvd., NW in Winter Haven.
For just one night Paulie Malignaggi will take some time off from boxing to try his hand at another sport. Malignaggi will celebrate Italian Heritage Night at Keyspan Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones, on Monday, July 27, by throwing out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
That night the Cyclones, single A affiliate of the New York Mets, will be taking on the Aberdeen IronBirds (Orioles). The game starts at 7pm and tickets are priced from $8 to $15.
It will be a brief respite from training for Malignaggi (26-2, 5 KOs) who is preparing vigorously for his August 22nd bout with Juan Diaz in Houston. Malignaggi vs. Diaz will headline a special three fight edition of HBO’s Boxing After Dark.
As Yusaf Mack awaits his next move in boxing, he took time out last week to spend time with some very special people in the place he calls home, Philadelphia.
For Mack (28-2-2, 17 KOs), the day began by visiting the West Philadelphia branch of Education Works, a facility that uses the power of learning to help children and families in low income neighborhoods. While there, Yusaf has the opportunity to speak with a group of kids, and show them a real life example of someone who can find success with the proper determination and focus.
“It’s great to talk to these kids and they know after seeing me with my belts that if they put their mind to anything they can achieve any goal they set for themselves”, said Mack. “This stop was extra special because these are kids in my own backyard and I hope that I can be an influence for these youngsters.
Education Works is a terrific program and over the coming months, I want to visit all seventeen locations.”
Despite the positive influence of his first stop, Yusaf’s day was not yet over. After leaving Education Works, he was off to the Magee Rehabilitation Center, to spend time brightening the days of special needs patients who had caught a bad break.
For Mack, the experience was as significant to him as anyone he met, and it made for an inspirational end to an already rewarding day.
“These people are such an inspiration to me. They are the real fighters,” said Mack. “To see what they have to go through really humbles me and it meant so much to me to be able to visit them and to see how receptive they were to me makes me want to train harder than ever because I want to be a bigger presence to these incredible men and woman and bring back the world Light Heavyweight championship.”

DiBella Entertainment Signs Undefeated
Super Middleweight Marcus Johnson!!
(June 30, 2009) DiBella Entertainment is proud to announce Marcus “Too Much” Johnson, one of the brightest young prospects boxing has to offer, as the latest to join the DiBella Entertainment stable. Johnson will be co-promoted by DBE and Antonio Leonard Productions, and managed by James Prince.
Johnson (16-0, 13 KOs), a resident of Houston, Texas, is undefeated through his first 16 bouts, with all but three coming via knockout. In his last bout, Johnson, 23, stopped former top contender Julio Caesar De la Cruz in seven rounds. Under the DiBella Entertainment banner, Johnson expects the big wins to keep on coming.
“Being with Lou DiBella is going to help dramatically,” said Johnson. “He’s going to push to get my name out there and get me recognized. He will get me a title shot.”
Johnson’s conquests have hardly been limited to just the professional ranks. A former US national champion at 178 lbs., Johnson holds amateur victories over the likes of Anthony Dirrell and DeAndrey Abron.
Johnson plans to campaign at 168 lbs. as a pro, but those amateur days, he says, were invaluable to his growth as a fighter.
“My dad taught me a professional style growing up,” said Johnson, who is coached by his father, James. “As an amateur I was sparring with professionals. I got exposed to many different styles. It has helped me out a lot.”
In Marcus Johnson, DiBella and Leonard believe they are investing in one of boxing’s best young practitioners. Part of their plan for Johnson is to make him a household name his skill dictates he should be.
“Marcus Johnson was a tremendous amateur and a spectacular young athlete,” said DiBella. “He has been flying under the radar for some time. With the proper team by his side, the potential for his future is limitless. I plan to provide the backing he needs to become a star.”
Said Leonard, “I am so excited about this kid. He has all the goods. Being with Lou DiBella is the best move for him. No one is better at keeping young fighters active. I can see Marcus fighting for a world title within a year.”
Like his new promotional team, Johnson has been waiting for his big break, and is confident that his will have on him top of the boxing world in no time.
“I have moved a lot slower than I had hoped,” said Johnson. “Now we are taking a new step towards bigger and better things.”

“DiBella Inks Antwone Smith!!”

New York (June 24, 2009)- DiBella Entertainment has announced exciting welterweight Antwone “The Truth” Smith (16-1-1, 8 KO’s) as the newest addition to their stable of world class boxers.
Promoter Lou DiBella expressed his excitement at the signing of Smith. “I became more and more impressed as I watched Antwone win four consecutive nationally televised ESPN fights as the underdog,” said DiBella. “He is a special talent and will be a significant player in the welterweight division.”
At barely twenty two years old, the battle tested Smith has beaten experienced athletes such as Richard Gutierrez, Norberto Gonzalez and Juan Camilo Novoa. Boxing since he was a young teen, Smith compiled an impressive amateur record and won several tournaments including the Florida Golden Gloves.
Despite his youth, Smith is already a polished fighter. He is a calculating and entertaining boxer/puncher who lives and trains in Miami, Florida with Jorge Rubio and is managed by Donnie Herron. His only loss was a highly controversial six round unanimous decision to Ed Paredes, a loss he intends to reverse in the future.
“I think Lou DiBella is a brilliant promoter and person in general,” said Herron. “Antwone is very intelligent and smart fighter. So together they should be a great team.”
Smith, who is newly engaged and the father of two kids, is happy to have a promoter backing him. “It hasn’t been easy so it feels good to have someone in my corner, helping me out,” said Smith. “Who better than Lou DiBella?”

WBC Names Sergio Martinez Welterweight Champion
(June 10, 2009) The World Boxing Council has officially named Sergio Martinez the welterweight champion of the world. Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs) won the interim version of the title last October, stopping well-regarded veteran Alex Bunema in 8 rounds.
In a statement released by the WBC on May 20, President Jose Sulaiman praised former champion Vernon Forrest for his commitment to the sport, but was adamant about the need for Martinez to take the reigns as champion in the division.
“Sergio Martinez is one of the most loyal fighters I have ever met as WBC President,” said Sulaiman. “[Sergio] is now regarded as a new sensation of boxing and I am sure that he will proudly represent the WBC.”
Obtaining ownership of the title was a long time coming for Martinez (44-1-2, 24 KOs).
After winning the interim title 8 months ago, Martinez has been trying to get Forrest in the ring, biding his time with a defense vs. Kermit Cintron in February. Once Forrest pulled out of their scheduled August 1st contest, the WBC made its ruling.
“I’m very proud of the WBC,” said Martinez. “I would’ve been happier winning the title in the ring, but I deserved this honor.”
With the famous green belt now solely in his possession, Martinez, widely regarded as one of boxing’s budding stars, is ready to take on all comers in the welterweight division.
“I’m not running away from anyone,” said Martinez. “Now that I have the green belt, I plan on keeping it for a long time. And if Vernon ever decides to get his title back, I’ll be there.”
No one is happier to hear those words than his promoter, Lou DiBella, who is ready to move his fighter’s career forward.
“It’s a pleasure to promote a fighter who will take on any challenge,” said DiBella. “We’re pursuing all opportunities for Sergio Martinez.”
There is still a chance the bout with Forrest will happen. As part of the WBC’s ruling Forrest is entitled to a shot at his old belt if and when he deems himself healthy enough for active competition.
Team Martinez is not only prepared to finally step into the ring with Forrest, but is welcoming the opportunity to get their long awaited showdown.
“Sergio is looking to defend his title anytime, anywhere,” said Martinez manager Sampson Lewkowicz. “If Vernon Forrest decides to step to the plate, Sergio will be waiting for him.”

Berto and Cintron Shine!
May 30th, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, FL: Undefeated Andre Berto, 25-0, 19 Ko’s retained his WBC Welterweight Title winning a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over IBF Junior Welterweight champion Juan “Iron Twin” Urango, 21-2-1, 16 Ko’s. Berto’s squick hands and even quicker feet kept the rugged Columbian off balance and most times out of range. Berto out punched and out maneuvered Urango who in tht first half appeared to playing it conservative waiting for the second half of the fight. If so he played right into the hands of the young Berto who starting in round six found himself less available and the “Iron Twin” at times appeared rusted. When he would eventually find himself in punching position he never seemed topull the trigger.Whether it was the movement or the speed that created Urango’s apprehension he seemed to be off his timing never opening any real offensive assault.

I scored it a shutout while the judges cards were announced 117-111, 118-110, 118-110 giving Berto the well deserved win. Berto has been smartly and strategically managed to the point that a big named fight should be right around the corner. I don’t think Mosley is a smart choice at this point but a slacking Judah or Sebastian Andres Lujan would be a great step waiting for the Pacquiao / Maywether fiasco to run its coarse.

Former welterweight champion Kermit “Killer” Cintron, 31-2-1, 27 Ko’s decisively beat previously unbeaten 26 year old junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo, 15-1, 12 Ko’s winning twelve round unanimous decision 116-112 times three. Cintron outworked and out punched the Angulo using a sharp jab with surgical precision. Mixing his power shots behind a variey a jab leads single, double or triple to the head and body “Killer” looked more like an assassin. Cintron picked his spots mixing up his power range never allowing Angulo to get off. Cintrons work output began to fade but his jab and precision punching kept the rounds he lost close. Scores were on all cards were announced 116-112 we scored it the same. This should line Cintron up for a rematch with stablemate Sergio Gabriel Martinez to whom he fought a draw this past February. A win over Martinez together with the glueing of Margarito who holds both of Cinron’s two losses should put Cintron in a “Killer whom position. Maybe even work your way to Mosley or Williams who everyone seems to be avoiding.
On the undercard: Light heavyweight Yusaf Mack 27-2-2, 16 Ko’s disposed of Youngstown, Ohio’s, DeAndrey Abron, 15-4, 10 Ko’s beating him to the punch for most of the first four rounds Abron brought on his own undoing when after landing a clean left hand he never followed up falling into a Mack surge punctuated by a looping right flooring him the first time then again after a good left hook causing the referee to stop the action.
In light welterweight action 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian, Jonathan Gonzalez, 3-0, 3 Ko’s Tko’ed light punching Laquel Fleming, 1-3-2, 0Ko’s in a “Flash” following heavy combination started by a tight left forcing the referee to call the fight at 1:45 of round one.
Venezuelan heavyweight Wilmer Vazquez, 9-0-1, 5 Ko’s remained undefeated winning a bland majority decision over clear opponent Andrew Greeley, 14-27-2, 8 Ko’s. Vasquez scored easily when he let his hands go but was not busy enough making it a tougher fight than necessary. The scores were announced 60-54, 58-56 and 57-57for the 2004 Venezuelan Olympian.
New York heavyweight Tor Hamer, 6-0, 5 Ko’s went to work early flooring Kentucky’s Samuel “Showtime” Brown, 4-6-2, 0Ko’s with a left uppercut closing the first round. Hamer bounced Brown off the canvas a second time this time using his right. Hamer jumped brown following an eight count flooring Brown again causing referee Tellis Assimenios to call it a show at 1:10 of round two. ______________________________________________________________________________________
Ishe Smith Joins DiBella Entertanment Ranks!

Former “Contender” boxing TV series star Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith 21-3, 9Ko’s has joined the ranks at DiBella Entertainment signing a deal this week. In my opinion, Smith one of the series better fighters has put together an interesting career so far including wins over Pawel Wolak, Randall Bailey, and David Estrada. If Smith is open to the fine tuned management DiBella brings to his stable an even progression should bring him to the title chance he certainly seeks. Ala Andre berto, Allan Green and of coarse Jermain Taylor. _________________________________________________________________________________
***Allan Green Calls Out Chad Dawson!!***

New York (May 19, 2009) – After learning of IBF and IBO light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson's interest in moving down to 168 pounds, Allan Green's mouth began to water. Now that Dawson has taken care of business by winning a second unanimous decision over Antonio Tarver, Allan Green has his napkin on his lap, eating utensils in hand, and is ready for supper.
“If he's coming down to 168, let’s make this happen. I respect Chad's skills as one of the best in the game, but I'm feeling so focused right now that I don't see anybody, including Chad Dawson, doing much more than six rounds with me,” said Green.
Coming of his own impressive and devastating knockout win over Carlos De Leon last month, Green has demanded the attention and respect of the boxing world and proved he is a force to be reckoned with in the super middleweight division.
In a recent interview Dawson's promoter Gary Shaw mentioned Allan Green as a possible future opponent for Dawson, along with the following names- Jermain Taylor, Carl Froch, and Mikkel Kessler.
“Give me a break,” said Green. “Nobody knows what's going on with Kessler and Froch decided to take a vacation for the rest of the year so he can find the stones to fight me. Taylor has his sights set elsewhere. So that leaves me.”
“Tell Gary to bring it,” said Green promoter Lou DiBella. “If Chad is afraid of Glen Johnson and wants to move down- Allan is ready, willing, and able.”
Beating someone like Chad Dawson if he came down to super middleweight would put Green at the top of his division and force the champions to come to him.
“Allan loves the fight, I love the fight, and Lou DiBella loves the fight. Chad Dawson's manager Mike Criscio loves the fight. Gary Shaw would clearly be on board. Hopefully we can do something over the summer and then Allan can come right back and take one of those belts from Froch or Kessler at the end of the year,” said Green’s advisor Greg Leon. "Hopefully the promoters are on the phone with HBO or Showtime now, because we want to make this fight happen.”

George, Hamer, Ali, Rosinsky, and De Valle Carry Show!
By: Bill Ethan February 25th, BB King Blues Club & Grill, NY: Shaun George 13-2-2, 9Ko’s coming in off a red hot upset win over Chris Byrd last May new his fight with veteran Jaffa “The African Assassin” Ballogou 46-8, 40Ko’s could validate his rise to the top of light heavyweight division.George wasted no time opening a full fledged assault banging Ballogou to the body and head with both hands. Before “The African Assassin” realized he was in a fight he bounced off the ropes and the fight was called at 1:26 of round one. Although Ballogou was a true “opponent” the win positions Goerge 6th in the US and 16th world wide. George is certain to find a tougher going with anyone at that level.
Tor Hamer remained undefeated stopping the much smaller Clarence Tillman with a viscious body attack and a left hook to the head stopping the action at 1:44 of the first round.
2008 Olympian Sadam Ali kept Ralph Prescott 0-2, winless enroute to his second pro win in five weeks. Outclassing Prescott from the start Ali dumped Prescott to the canvas with a well placed hook to the body calling the bout at 1:41 of the second round.

WHO IS SERGIO MARTINEZ? HE IS “MARAVILLA!”
Sergio Martinez TKO’s Alex Bunema
to Claim interim WBC 154 Pound Title
New York (October 5, 2008) – Saturday night (October 4) in a fight seen on HBO’s Boxing After Dark, Sergio Martinez became the new interim WBC junior middleweight world champion with an overwhelming eighth-round TKO victory over WBA # 1 & WBC # 4 rated Alex Bunema, at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.
From the opening bell, Martinez (44-1-1, 24 KOs), who came into the bout as the WBC # 2 rated contender, completely dominated the accomplished, reigning WBA Inter-Continental 154 pound titlist, Bunema.
In round three, southpaw Martinez battered Bunema all over the ring before flooring the African with a left hand. Martinez’s superior hand speed was evident throughout the one-sided beating – prompting the ringside physician to stop the bout before the start of round nine.
“Sergio Martinez is one of the best fighters in the world period! His nickname is ‘Maravilla,’ which means ‘Marvelous’ and that’s the kind of performance he delivered against Bunema,” said DBE president Lou DiBella.
The 33-year-old Martinez resides in Madrid, Spain, and has already held the IBO world and WBC Latino 154 pound titles. His advisor Sampson Lewkowicz was the first to alert DiBella to the Argentine’s unlimited potential.
DiBella: “Sampson told me about Sergio a few years back. Once I had the opportunity to watch some tapes, I knew the sky was the limit for this guy as long as he was given the opportunity to perform on the HBO stage. Along with Sergio’s manager Ricardo Sanchez-Atocha, Sampson and I are confident that Martinez will prove to be boxing’s next major international star with displays in the ring that earn him the accolades associated with a talent of his magnitude.”
Bunema came into the fight against Martinez coming off two straight knockout victories already this year over world-class contenders Roman Karmazin and Walter Dario Matthysse – making Martinez’s resounding win that much more impressive.
“The scary thing about Martinez is, he has the ability to do the same thing to almost any fighter out there and he’ll continue to do so as he’s matched against the very best competition. A new star has emerged in the 147 to 160 pound weight classes and his name is Sergio Martinez,” concluded Lou DiBella.
On the undercard undefeated featherweight Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantánamo” Gamboa’s 12-0, 10 Ko’s almost put one up in the loss column when after landing a triple hook in the opening round when he ate a Marcos “Flaco” Ramirez counter right hand depositing him on the canvas.

Many at ring side thought Ramirez received a very quick count from referee Jerry Cantu who called it at 1:41 of round two.
In other action former sparring partner for Antonio Maragarito and Ricky Hatton Alfredo Angulo 14-0, 11Ko’s showcased his full arsenal of skills tearing down the rugged Andrey Tsurkan. Tsurkan who hails from the tough Bronx N.Y. entered with a reecord of 26-4, 17 Ko’s only being stopped once by Shawn Garnett back in 2002.
The twenty six year old Angulo was very methodical with a viscious head and body attack. After out punching Tsurkan 296 to 76 in power shots referee Tony Krebs finally stopped the action at 2:27 of the 10th round.
