DeLaHoya Wins Heavy Sparring,
Glides Past Forbes on Road to Mayweather II!

May 3rd, Home Depot Center Soccer Stadium in Carson, California: Oscar De La Hoya 38-5, 30 Ko’s won a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over Steve “Two Pound” Forbes 33-5, 9 Ko’s in a tune up bout that mirrored heavy sparring paving the road to DeLaHoya / Mayweather II in September.
As if he were following a script, “The Golden Boy” used his jab together with combination punching to decisively beat the light punching but granite chinned Forbes. DeLaHoya used a sharp multiple jab to set up combinations to the body and head of Forbes who appeared to be there for the show. DeLaHoya was simply too strong, too big and too fast for “two Pound” who never laid it on the line.The judges scored the fight 119-109, 119-109, 120-108 and here at SBB we go with the shutout.
On the undercard two of Golden Boy’s young and upcoming stars showcased the goods with middleweight Daniel Jacobs 6-0, 6 Ko’s as a continuing to impress destroying Jose Peña 2-3-1, 2 Ko’s in 53 seconds. While Hector Sanchez 13-0, 5 Ko’s easily outclassed and shutout Arthur Brambila 9-13, 4 Ko’s in a four-rounder.
Top ten ranked junior welterweight Victor Ortiz 21-1-1, 16 Ko’s and Dairo Esalas 31-12, 25 Ko’s. both found the canvas in round three, but Esalas was prone again in rounds four and five before the referee called the action at 2:31 of round five.
Welterweight Sven Paris 24-3, 16 Ko’s won an eight-round split decision over "The Contender's" Freddy Curiel 18-7-2, 8 Ko’s. Paris had Curiel down in round two and won a split decision by the scores of 78-73, 76-75 Paris on two judges cards and Curiel grabbing one 78-73.
Lightweight Wes Ferguson 18-3-1, 5 Ko’s beat Miguel Munguia 16-12-1, 13 Ko’s 78-73, 78-73, 79-72 in their scheduled eight rounder.
