Jens “Lil Evil” Pulver wrestled at Tahoma High School Maple Valley, Washington winning two state championships. Pulver went on to wrestle for Highline Community College becoming an NAIA All-American placing in the top eight at the NAIA National Championships. He transferred and wrestled at Boise State University until a bilateral fracture of his wrists ended his amateur wrestling career. "Lil Evil" went on to earn a degree in criminal justice at BSU.

During his time at Boise, Pulver began training in the mixed martial arts under Lowell Anderson, the owner of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu where he became engaged in “underground” competitions. Pulver began competing in sanctioned MMA events April 1999 in the Bas Rutten Invitational. Pulver had mixed results winning one  of two matches. He returned to the third Bas Rutten Invitational winning both his matches catching the eye of UFC matchmaker, John Perretti. Pulver also competed as a pro boxer compiling a record of 4-0, 3Ko’s. Pulver has competed in the UFC, Pride fighting and moved to the WEC in 2007 fighting two brutal battles with Urijah Faber. Pulver now a color commentator for World Extreme Cagefighting has recorded an MMA record 33 matches, 21 wins, 11 losses 12 wins by Ko and one draw.

Sean “Muscle Shark” Sherk from St. Francis, Minnesota, began wrestling at age seven going on to wrestle in over 400 matches. The “Muscle Shark” began training in various forms of martial arts in 1994 working in boxing wrestling and Muay Thai. Sherk had his first MMA fight in 1999 beating Roscoe Ostyn by decision. Sherk ran a winning streak of eight straight before signing with the UFC in 2001. He went on to fight and lose a close fight to UFC’s Matt Hughes before moving on to Pride Fighting. He has fought in the UFC and Pride Fighting in Japan where he picked up his nickname “Muscle Shark” from the avid Japanese fight fans. Sherk went on to win the UFC lightweight championship vacated by Jens Pulver and now carries a MMA record of thirty-three wins, Eight by Ko, thirteen by submission and eleven by decision with three losses, and one draw.

Sherk successfully defended his title against Hermes Franca but was stripped of his title after testing positive for steroids. Sherk fought the allegations but fell victim to a bad decision in some controversial hearings. The “Muscle Shark” returned in 2008 but failed in his attempt to regain his title losing to B.J. Penn. Sherk beat Tyson Griffin his last time competing. Sherk presently is a top coach at the prestegious Minnesota Martial Arts Academy.

Fighter WareHouse Does it Again!

Fighter WareHouse in Selden is not just the place to pick up the best fight gear and apparel but the Long Islands total fight hot spot. Owner Carl “Chris” Kern makes it a point to keep “The WareHouse” at the cutting edge. He did it again Saturday, February 21st less than a month after bringing us MMA star Orlando “The Warrior” Rivera. Kern brought in World Extreme CageFighting Champion, Jamie “Showtime” Varner and the popular MMA star spent the day signing autographs, taking pictures, giving fighting tips as well as telling stories about his rise in the mixed martial arts.

 

Varner just 24 years old is the WEC Lightweight champion fighting out of Tempe, Arizona who also goes by the “The Worm” or “C4.” He is an alumni of Deer Valley High School, Glendale, Arizona, where he where he lettered in wrestling as a member of the Deer Valley Skyhawk Wrestling Team. After graduation he moved onto Lock Haven University, in Pennsylvania where he trained in wrestling and boxing going onto win the NCBA (National Collegiate Boxing Association) 165lb weight division, Eldorado Hotel and Convention Center in Reno, Nevada, April, 2006.

Varner’s testimony was influential in the legalization and sanctioning of mixed martial arts as a serious professional sport in the state of Arizona. “The Worm” turned pro March 2003 and has compiled an excellent 16 - 2 - 0 - 2 NC record, winning the WEC Lightweight title February 2008 stopping Rob McCullough in the third round. “C4” has defended the title it twice since and is looking to stay active taking on all comers.

Fighter Warehouse Brings Orlando “The Warrior” Rivera!

By: Jason Sardelis                                                                                       Saturday January 31st, Adam the “BellPort Kid” Willett, a two time NY Gold Glove winner, four time national boxing champion and Olympic alternate joined the crowd at Soleil Total Fitness in Selden, NY in a “Ultimate Fighting” seminar given by Orlando “The Warrior” Rivera.

Rivera recently retired was born on Staten Island, N.Y. now residing in Tampa, Florida. The “Ultimate Fighting” star was on hand as a guest of Carl “Chris” Kern owner and president of Selden’s, Fighter Warehouse.

Rivera who fought using the alias "The Warrior," is a five-time world champion super light heavyweight kickboxer having held titles under five major sanctioning bodies. “The Warrior” began training as a kickboxer at the age of 9 and retired with a professional kick boxing record of 32-3-1, 20Ko’s. He is the youngest person ever inducted into the World Karate Union Hall of Fame at the age of thirty five.

Rivera joined the professional boxing ranks in 1998 at the Sports Fest in Staten Island on the undercard of “Lumber Jack” Louis Llovett / Brian Davis card. Rivera went on to win the Latin American WBC Championship Boxing title in only his sixth pro fight earning a twelve round unanimous decision over Rodolfo Aguilar, 37-6-3, 15 Ko’s. Rivera added the IBC Americas Light Heavyweight Title beating Etianne Whitake in 2003. The “Warrior” went on to have an outstanding boxing career compiling a record of 15-6-2, 8Ko’s before retiring in 2006.

Prior to the seminar Rivera discussed some conditioning techniques with Willett and the importance of a solid balanced fighting base. Willett joined fight fans of all ages in a training seminar given by Rivera that was both enjoyable and informative. The Ultimate fighting star posed for pictures and signed autographs until the large crowd was exhausted.

The 26 year old Willett who is sponsored by Soleil Fitness and Fighter Warehouse was highly energized after the meeting. Willett fighting as a cruiserweight won his pro debut January 23rd beating Andrew Hutchinson a veteran of fourteen pro bouts. The “Bellport Kid” is looking to step back in the ring in the next month.
