Quillen Stays Unbeaten, Powell Gets “Rocked” at the Hard Rock!

June 11th, New York: DeAndre “The Bull” Latimore 19-1, 16 Ko’s, former sparring partner of Sechew Powell used the debut of professional boxing at the Hard Rock Café, New York and ESPN’s Wednesday Night Fights to launch himself into the light middleweight sweepstakes. Sechew “Iron Horse” Powell 23-2, 14 Ko’s entered as the fight the IBF’s #1 contender his only loss to former IBF Light Middleweight Champion Kassim Ouma.

In the second round Powell was fighting at his usual even pace when he went on the attack after landing a clean counter left backing Latimore to the corner. The “Bull” took a couple of shots to the head, then countered landing a good right hook, then two trade places.
In the third round Latimore ripped a hook to the body hurting Powell driving him to the ropes causing Powell to grab on. Powell countered well but Latimore again fired back.
The fourth round had Powell backing Latimore up the “Bull” who looked good defensively and again fired right back. The round had some good two way action with both fighters trading shots Powell gaining the edge.
In the fifth round Powell picked it up landing in combination and appeared to hurt Latimore. Powell inexplicably puts himself on the ropes where Latimore takes advantage landing a wicked uppercut rocking the “Iron Horse.”
The sixth round opened with Latimore hurting Powell again scoring with a sharp left. The “Bull” starts snorting and the “Iron Horse” looks ready for pony rides. Latimore opens up out working the “Iron Horse” who appears ready for pasture.



In the seventh round Latimore takes his time while Powell seems to be keeping his distance. About midway through the round Latimore closes the distance with a thunderous right hook pushing Powell to the ropes. The “Bull” beat Powell around the ring along the ropes using his jab and straight lefts backing him into a neutral corner where he unloads with a barrage of punches “rocking” Powell causing referee Benjy Esteves Jr. to jump in calling it a night at 2:11 of the seventh round.

In the co-feature bout Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin 19-0, 14 Ko’s met Dionisio “Mister Nocaut” Miranda 19-2-2, 17 Ko’s winning a 10-round unanimous decision. Early Quillen used his jab and straight rights to control the action. Quillen opened up a body attack in the middle rounds landing several solid left hooks.
Miranda began an all out assault in the seventh round landing a right hand left hook backing Quillen to the ropes land a barrage of shots that had “Kid Chocolate” soft. Quillen draped Miranda clinging for life with Miranda now loading up.
In the eight round Quillen’s body attack paid off. Mirada looked too tired to effectively cut off the moving Quillen began to bounce looking to refuel.
In rounds nine and ten Quillen took advantage of the space as a fatigued Miranda continued to miss with long reaching right hands. The judges scores were announced judge Frank Lombardi 92-97, judge John McKaie 92-97 and judge Waleska Roldan 93-97 all for Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillen.
