Briggs Gets His Wish Faces Vitali Klitschko in October!

(August 18th, 2010) 39 year old WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali “Dr. Ironfist” Klitschko will defend his title Saturday October 16th against Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs, 51-5-1, 45Ko's at the O2 World Arena, Altona, Hamburg, Germany.

The 6’7” Klitschko, 40-2, 38Ko’s has run off eight straight victories, seven by Ko since being stopped in six by Lennox Lewis June 2003. Klitschko stopped lightly touted Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski his last outing this past May.

December, 3rd 2009 Shannon 'The Cannon' Briggs made his first ring appearance since losing a twelve round decision to Sultan Ibragimov stopping lightly regarded Marcus McGee cold in one only to have the bout changed to a N/C after Briggs tested tested positive for a banned substance (reportedly an asthma medication).

Since then “The Cannon” now fighting under the guidance of Empire Promotions has put together three wins by Ko in four months against suspect competition. From the beginning of his return Briggs has made it no secret that he has his eyes on either of the Klitschko brothers calling for them to “pick on someone their own size.”

Briggs who stopped Ray Mercer in 2005 is most known for his controversial majority decision with George Foreman back in 1997.

More Than Just a Baby Face
From Rough Beginnings to One of the Hottest New Names in Boxing: Michael Faragon's Inspiring Journey

Looking at him, it's hard to believe Mike Faragon has ever faced adversity or felt serious pain. The baby face hides a lot.

Undefeated Schenectady, New York, lightweight Michael "Baby Face" Faragon (11-0, 5 KOs) has overcome tremendous adversity in his life and dealt out his fair share of pain.

Born Michael Cunningham in Syracuse, New York, Faragon could have easily slipped between the cracks into the void of angry young men that fill the prison system.

But the kid with the deceivingly innocent face was born a fighter.

Faragon was just seven years old when he found combat sports. Living in Albany, New York, where his mother had been transferred, he wandered into a local gym and took up kickboxing. His natural talent was immediately apparent and then one day, a kickboxer named Andy Faragon invited the young man to train at a gym he owned in Schenectady, New York.

The pair's focus switched over to boxing and Faragon would go on compile an 85-15 record and win the state Golden Glove Championships twice, the Western Olympic trials and a junior national championship. He was also the number one ranked light welterweight in the United States in 2007.

And along the way, the elder Faragon became the father figure the boy had always lacked. With his mother's blessing, young Michael moved to Schenectady in the sixth grade to live with the Faragons. As the years went by, he became a part of the family, was legally adopted and in honor of their bond, changed his surname to Faragon.

Michael "Baby Face" Faragon is now 22 years old and a professional boxer with building momentum and a dynamic duo of promoter and manager that would make any boxer jealous. He recently signed with promotional powerhouse The Empire Sports and Entertainment and is managed by longtime friend and well-known boxing figure Stan Hoffman.

Hoffman is best known for having handled the careers of 31 different world champions.

"I've known Stan Hoffman since the amateurs from when I was 15," he explains. "I went up to his camp a couple times and sparred some of his pros. I grew up around him and he always gave me advice coming up. He's like a grandfather to me."

The Empire President, Greg Cohen, admits he is counting on Faragon and a few of his other young pros to carry the company name into boxing's future. "We've got Shannon Briggs and Hasim Rahman and some other fighters who are making a splash on the boxing world right now," he explains, "but the next wave of Empire fighters will be lead by kids like Michael Faragon. He may have come from a rough background, but he's got the world laid out in front of him now and all he has to do is carry through with his enormous potential."

Hoffman, whose track record for spotting and developing talent is impeccable, says he is eager to introduce his latest "future star" to the world. "He may look like a choir boy, but this kid can really fight. He's got a tremendous story of overcoming adversity and a genuinely good heart even after all he's been through. It won't be long now and he'll be starring on the HBOs and Showtimes. He's all-action when he fights and the fans are going to love him."

Rahman dropped Miller four times with the rugged Miller getting upright each time but the fourth knockdown was enough to prompt Miller’s corner to ask referee Charlie Fitch to stop the action at 1:37 of the fourth round. Miller drops to 16-5, 9Ko’s while Rahman now 47-7-2, 38Ko’s a the proud holder of a fifth round Ko of Lennox Lewis April 2001, finished journeyman Clinton Boldridge prior to taking Miller and is looking to avenge his December 2008 seventh round TKO loss to younger Klitschko. Briggs Makes it Two Ko’s in 1:58

By: John Sardelis
May 28th, The Scope Arena, Norfolk, Virginia: Shannon Briggs scored his second KO in seven days taking 1: 58 seconds to complete both jobs. Briggs who demolished Dominique Alexander 19-8-1, 9Ko’s last week in 20 seconds took 1:38 to finish Saint Joseph, Missouri’s “All-American Prizefighter” Rob Calloway. Briggs floored Calloway three times in the opening round forcing the referee to call it a night with the three knockdown rule in effect.

Briggs looking for another title shot has openly challenged both Klitchko’s calling for them to pick on someone their own size. Vitali Klitschko, 39-2, 37Ko’s takes on Albert “The Dragon” Sosnowski, 45-2-1, 27Ko’s tonight at Veltins Arena, Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.

In the semi main event Caroline, Virginia cruiserweight Adam “The Real Deal” Seal recorded a fifth round TKO upset of Brooklyn’s southpaw Daniel Judah driving him to the ropes and then to the canvas with a volley of punches forcing the referee to stop it at 2:40 of the fifth round. Seal advances to 8-1, 7Ko’s while Judah falls to 23-6-3, 10Ko’s losing his third straight, the last two inside the distance.

The Cannon Opens Fire!
Shannon Briggs - America's Knockout Action Hero
The Only True Destroyer Still Patrolling Heavyweight Waters

Former linear and WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (50-5-1, 44 KOs) is not only the last American-born heavyweight champion in boxing, he is the sole top-ranked heavyweight in the world carrying on a tradition as old as the sport: Like no other elite big man today, Shannon Briggs doesn't just beat his opponents... He DESTROYS them. He leaves them flat on their backs while crowds gasp in amazement at the bliinding power and brutality in his fists.

Let the Klitschkos and David Hayes outscore their foes and win 12-round decisions. Shannon Briggs enters the ring to try and punch a hole right through you.

By separating opponents from their senses with frightening displays of power, men like "Iron" Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Sonny Liston, Rocky Marciano, Max Baer, and on and on throughout history, have electrified crowds and cranked up the intensity whenever they've laced up gloves. And as evidenced by the overflow, standing-room-only crowd at his last fight, Friday night at Capitale in New York City, punching power like Briggs possesses is what fans love to see the most in heavyweight boxing.

30 of Briggs' 44 career knockouts have come inside of one round. His last two opponents haven't lasted a minute combined. Briggs' jab is like another fighter's right hand. His right hand is like an artillery shell. He has the speed of a middleweight and all the natural God-given athleticism one man can possess.

And now, with his breathing issues completely under control, he is more focused than ever on his quest to capture the Heavyweight title for the third time.

Mostly likely because of the safe nature of their fighting styles, the Klitschkos and David Haye need big-name opposition that can help them captivate the public. The Albert Sosnowskis and Eddie Chambers of the world are beaten before the first bell rings. Shannon Briggs can KO any man on the planet with one punch and that's what fans want to see in their Heavyweight Champion.

Shannon Briggs is the most exciting heavyweight in the world; the only true destroyer still patrolling heavyweight waters.

It's time for the cannon to get another shot at the heavyweight championship!

Empires Briggs in the Blink of an Eye, Faragon in Four

(Shannon "TheCannon" Briggs )

By: Phil Kane                                                                                                     May 21st, Capitale, New York, New York: On Empire Sports and Entertainments card “Capitale Punishment” it took the blink of an eye for former WBC world heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs to successfully continued his drive towards another heavyweight title. Briggs finished Dominique “Diamond” Alexander who hit the deck like an over worked “Blood diamond miner” about twenty seconds into the opening round staying there giving Briggs a first round TKO.

Alexander overmatched in all aspects gave up about 40lbs and way too much experience with “The Cannon” having more than twice the KO’s then Alexander’s has wins. Briggs continues his run climbing to 50-5-1, 44Ko’s while Alexander falls to 19-9-1 9Ko’s.

Briggs happy with the results continued to campaign towards a match with either of the Klitschko brothers calling for them to “pick on some their own size” and openly calling out David Haye. The 38 year old Briggs is scheduled to meet 40 year old Rob “All-American Prizefighter” Calloway, 70-11-2, 57Ko’s at the Scope in Virginia the 28th of this month.

                                                                        (Mike Faragon)

In the semi main event Syracuse, New York’s light welterweight Mike “The Baby Faced Beast” Faragon remained unbeaten when Stamford, Connecticut’s Francisco Palacios retired at the end of the fourth round. Faragon showed he has been quietly at work sharpening his slick boxer puncher skills repeating the one sided whipping of Palacios a rematch of their July 2008 bout which Faragon also controlled.

“The Baby Faced Beast” 22 years old who would be ID’ed in a library displayed the skills of a fighter well passed his age. He mixes up his attack well using slick angles and constant pressure. His best shot appears to be his hook which he sets up well attacking both the body and the head. Faragon despite lacking one punch power was never in danger when the light handed Palacios complained of a shoulder injury in the third then after being battered in the fourth called it a night giving “The Beast” at TKO win at 3:000 of round four. Faragon moves to 11-0, 5Ko’s while – Palacios skids to 4-11-5, 1Ko.

                                                                           (Sadam Ali)

On the undercard: Brooklyn light middleweight Sadam Ali remained unbeaten winning a lopsided four round unanimous decision over Wilson, North Carolina’s journeyman Martinus Clay. It was evident early in the opening round that Clay did not have the skills to compete with the former Olympian with Ali pumping a sharp jab on the mostly defensive Clay until ripping a clean right uppercut closing the round. Ali began to land his well timed right hand behind his jab leading to progressive combinations and the introduction of a tight left hook putting Clay in pure survival mode sticking around to hear the scores of 40-36 times three for Ali. The former Olympian continues his trek advancing to 7-0, 3Ko’s while Clay dips to 13-26-4, 5Ko’s.

                                                                  (Ashanti Hendrickson)

In an exciting welterweight bout Patchogue Medford’s Ashantie “Volcano” Hendrickson, hot off his second win just fourteen days ago looking to give Zambian boxer Hastings Bwalya the 2007 All-Africa Games winner and a 2008 Olympian his first loss fell short losing a spirited six round battle.

There would be no eruption by Hendrickson who attempted to make it a brawl early leading to several clinches and clashes of heads with the talented Bwalya. Hendrickson had his moments though scoring with some clean jabs and good right hands but Bwalya out worked Hendrickson landing the cleaner sharper punches while demonstrating some cagey movement and a tight defense. The scores were announced 59-55, 58-56, 58-56 for Hastings Bwalya who advances to 3-0, 2Ko’s while Hendrickson drops to 2-7, 0Ko’s.

New York Gold Glove Champion “Irish” Light Heavyweight Seanie Monaghan successfully took his aggressive boxer puncher style to the pro ranks dropping fellow New Yorker Simeon Trigueno twice with thumping right hands one to the body the second to the head enroute to a pro debut first round TKO win leaving Trigueno winless and giving him his third straight loss inside the distance.
Cruiserweight Angel Concepcion made his pro debut winning a four round unanimous decision over Chicago, Illinois Charles Wade. Concepcion dropped Wade in the opening round by a clean right hand from which Wade could not hide. The scores were read 40-35 times three leaving Concepcion 1-0 while Wade suffered his fifth straight loss dropping to 1-7, 1Ko.

In more heavyweight action LA’s Bowie “BO” Tupou and Paterson, New Jersey’s Alexis Mejias traded hooks and wide shots for one round with Mejias recording a flash knockdown of “Bo” with a wide right. The action picked up where it left off at the end of the first with both fighters going for the fences trading shots with Tupou gaining the edge with hooks to Mejias head.

Following the second round Mejias complained of an injured hand leading to a stoppage by the ringside doctor awarding Tupou a second round TKO. Tupou moves to 18-1, 14Ko’s while Mejias falls to 10-4, 4Ko’s losing his last three.

Shannon Briggs Sends a Message to
WBA Heavyweight Champion David Haye

Hello David,
I see that Wladimir Klitschko put out a video on You Tube claiming that now he wants to fight you. Apparently, he sees an opportunity to fight another "smaller" guy because you came from the cruiserweights.

David, I've been in this game a long time. Before you waste a lot of your precious time on them, please just realize that you don't have to be at the mercy of the Klitschkos. I've already gone down that road and been tortured by the games they play. You give them every advantage they want and they just keep backing out.

Don't waste your time.

You are a proven and legitimate heavyweight champion now. You beat Nikolay Valuev and now John Ruiz. Let's you and me have a real, action-packed heavyweight title fight. I'd love to go Europe and fight you.

The smaller divisions are for showing skills. The heavyweight division is for punching power and all-out wars. People want to see Lennox Lewis and George Foreman type power. They don't want to see the Klitschkos do their punch and clinch, run-around-and-dance, octopus fighting that they do. They hurt the division with their safety-first styles. Neither one of them put it on the line. The fans want to see knockouts.

We don't have to deal with the Klitschkos hand-picking opponents and fighting only in Germany with their boring styles. Let's you and me go to war and give the fans what they want from heavyweight boxing.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Shannon Briggs

Briggs Sensational in Florida Comeback Bout!
Cuban Giant Folds Quickly under Heavy Cannon Fire

Former Linear and WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (49-5-1, 43 KOs) returned to action on Tuesday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Resort in Hollywood, Florida, and destroyed normally durable 6' 7" veteran Rafael "The Cuban Giant" Pedro (20-9-1, 14 KOs) in 28 awe-inspiring seconds.

Fighting in the evening's main event, Briggs came in at his lightest weight in his last six fights and quickly showed the blazing hand speed and heart-stopping power that have made him a two-time world champion and fan favorite worldwide.

Pedro, who had been stopped only once before in his career, went down from a battering ram straight right hand to the side of the head and made no serious attempt to rise before the count of ten.

The impressive victory was Briggs' 28th career first-round KO.

"Shannon is clearly ready for another run at the heavyweight title," said Briggs' promoter Greg Cohen of the The Empire Sports and Entertainment. "That picture-perfect right hand would have KO'd any man on the planet. Briggs is back, more focused than ever and a serious threat to any heavyweight belt holder."Quick correction to today's press release introducing the Empire Sports and Entertainment Inc. Briggs Blasts Out Pedro in 28!

By: Will Bengal                                                                                                April 13th, Seminole Hard Rock Resort in Hollywood, Florida: Looking rock solid at a trim 263lbs former WBO heavyweight champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs, 49-5-1, 43Ko’s took out 6’7” Rafael Pedro, 20-9-1, 14Ko’s with a heavy right hand to the head of stopping the show in just 28 seconds.

Briggs wants and thinks he sees a flaw in the Klitschko brothers and wants his shot. Briggs annihilation of Pedro showed that when in the proper frame of mind he has the size, speed and power to follow through and a match up with either of the Klitschko brothers could be a blockbuster.

Briggs on Come Back “He Think’s He See’s Somezing”

By: Ethan Doutney (SBB)
Former WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs, 48-5-1, 42Ko’s has started his comeback and it appears to be the Klitschko’s he has his eyes on.

Fighting pro since 1992 “The Cannon” jumped into the boxing main sights winning his first seventeen including a first round stoppage of Jimmy Ellis. Then going on to win his first twenty five bouts twenty by stoppage, Briggs suffered his first set back, a third round TKO loss to
then unbeated Darroll Wilson.

Briggs regrouped three months later starting a five fight win streak the last being a majority decision victory over “Big” George Foreman November 1977. Beating Foreman paved the way to a March 1998 title shot with WBC Champion Lennox Lewis only to suffer another set back but not before rocking the champion in the opening round only to have him hang on and drop “The Cannon” three times enroute to a fifth round TKO loss.

Briggs would return again this time in shaky fashion having various degrees of success stopping Marcus Rhodes in one, battle “The White Buffalo” Francois Botha to a draw August 1999, then stop Warren Williams in three only to lose a majority decision to a .500 Sedreck “Big Buck” Fields 9-9, April 2000.

Looking as if he had gotten on track winning four straight by Ko Briggs would slip again hitting the deck while losing a one sided decision to Jameel McCline, April 2002.

“The Cannon” then zeroed himself in putting together a run of twelve straight wins by stoppage, including a seventh round TKO win over Ray Mercer August 2005 and a 12 round Ko of Sergey Lyakhovich winning the WBO Heavyweight Title only to lose it to Sultan Ibragimov by way of a twelve round unanimous decision seven months later.

After a two and a half year absence Briggs returned looking in superb conditioned and appearing focused “The Cannon” blasted out veteran Marcus McGee in the opening round of their scheduled eight rounder only to have the fight changed to a no contest after testing tested positive for a banned substance in a post fight testing. Briggs camp blamed asthma medication.

Now after completing his 90 day suspension Briggs is back taking on Cuban brawler Rafeal “The Cajun Connection” Pedro. The selection of Pedro, 20-8-1, 14Ko’s is no coincidence with Pedro standing 6’7’ carrying a 85inch reach as Briggs plans to stay busy looking to make another serious run at the heavyweight title keeping his eyes on the Klitscko’s.

After watching the “Twin Towers” beat down much smaller competition lack a true heavyweight punch Briggs has already warned the Klitscko’s to pick on someone their own size. Not exactly their size at 6’4” about 250 Briggs brings what most of the “Twin Towers” recent opponents lack, a heavyweight punch. Briggs, like Schmelling before his first fight with Louis says he “sees somezing” pointing out Wladimir’s pawing jab.

The plan seems right but it’s all in the execution. Only time will tell. A good Briggs matched with either Klitscko could work and would draw should “The Cannon” bang his way back to the top. In regards to a Briggs Wladimir fight “seeing somezing” is great but just like the plan to get their it’s all in the execution or he could find himself another of the executed.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Briggs to Wladimir: Pick on Someone Your Own Size!

After watching Eddie Chambers falter badly in his challenge for Wladimir Klitschko's IBF and WBO belts, former WBO and Linear Heavyweight Champion of the World Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs has the following message for Klitschko: "Wlad, why don't you pick on someone your own size? Stop avoiding me. Let's see you fight someone who actually has a chance against you!"

Briggs, who stands a solid 6' 4" and weighs in the 250s, has the size, speed and power to exchange evenly with Klitschko. "Watching Wladimir paw away with his left hand and jump back whenever poor little Eddie Chambers managed to try a punch almost made me fall asleep!" continued Briggs. "Eddie looked ready to go in round two. Fighting a safety-first style every fight is not what the fans want from their Heavyweight Champion. But we've seen what happens when someone can match Wladimir's power. He either loses or he's up and down off the canvas like a yo-yo."

Briggs remembers what another big heavyweight with speed and power did to Mr. Klitschko. "Corrie Sanders had decent power but nowhere near what I have. And he had quick hands, but again, nothing compared to me. And look what he did to Wladimir. I commend his people for keeping him away from serious challenges, but you can't do this forever. When I won the WBO Championship, Wladimir was supposed to fight me and he chose to fight Calvin Brock instead - right in my hometown of New York City!!!"

Briggs (48-5-1, 42 KOs) is in heavy training for his comeback and says he is feeling better than ever because of his new treatments for chronic asthma. "I'm the last American to hold a heavyweight championship. I'm back and better than ever and I'm ready to bring the title back to the United States."

He also raises a valid point about deserving a title shot. "Vitali cancelled all kinds of fights. Then he ran for mayor. He comes back four years later and gets a title shot immediately. I was champion less than three years ago. I don't need to fight 15 guys to get a shot. I'm ready and I deserve it."

"Tell Wladimir I know he had some losses and some scares a while ago and now he's all about playing it safe with his style and his challengers. But Ali fought Earnie Shavers. Larry Holmes did too. Lennox Lewis defended against big punchers. That's part of the boxing game. If Wladimir wants to prove he's a true champion then there's only one thing he can do: Pick on Someone His Own Size!!!"

 Michael Faragon Joins The Empire!

(March 27th) Co-Founders Greg Cohen and Barry Honig of The Empire Sports and Entertainment proudly announce the signing of Schenectady, New York's Michael "Baby Face" Faragon (10-0, 4 KOs) to a promotional agreement.

For good reason, the undefeated 22-year-old Faragon has been called "the most promising young fighter to come out of the Capital Region in a long time."

Before his 10-fight winning streak as a professional, Faragon compiled and 85-15 amateur boxing record and won the state Golden Glove Championships twice, the Western Olympic trials and a junior national championship. He was also the number one ranked light welterweight in the United States in 2007.

"Michael is an exceptionally gifted young man with enormous talent and we're extremely pleased to be working with him," revealed Cohen. "He's a good looking kid with all the right tools to become a world champion."

Since making his pro debut in November 2007 on the undercard of Cotto vs. Mosely, Faragon has been extremely impressive while tearing through his first 10 professional opponents. He fights with power in either hand, but is best-known for his agility and poise, especially on the inside.

Faragon is managed by Stan Hoffman, who has guided the careers of over 31 world champions including The Empire's Hasim "The Rock" Rahman.

"With The Empire as his promoters and Stan Hoffman for his manager, Michael now has a team in place that will definitely give him a leg up on the competition," said Cohen. "He's a fan favorite in New York and that will quickly spread to the rest of the world, as we guide him to the top of boxing. We're looking forward to helping him build himself into one of The Empire's next generation of champions."

Sunday March 21st, ESPRIT Arena, Dusseldorf, Germany IBF/WBO heavyweight champ Wladimir “Dr. Steel Hammer” Klitschko dominated challenger "Fast" Eddie Chambers for eleven rounds before putting him to sleep in the twelfth round of their IBF, IBO and WBO heavyweight title heavyweight title.

Chambers who entered the fight with only one loss a twelve round decision loss to Alexander Povetkin in a 2008 IBF Heavyweight Title Eliminator bout while carrying 18 wins by stoppage mostly over hand picked opponents proved once again “Speed Kills.” In this case “Fast” Eddie proved if you don’t carry a true heavyweight punch the odds of a win over a Klitschko is against the odds.

Wladimir, 54-3, 48Ko’s only losses are by a Lamon Brewster Ko in five, a Corrie Sanders Ko in two and the lighter punching Ross Puritty surviving until the eleventh round back in 1998 when Wladimir who was winning the fight by a wide margin punched himself out running out of gas causing his trainer Fritz Sdunek to jump in and stop the fight virtually giving Purity an 11th round TKO win.

The 6’7” Klitschko dominated from the start using his 81” reach peppering the 6’1” Chambers with his thudding jab mixing in well timed hammering right hands. Chambers appeared miffed if not flat intimidated by the champions size and lacking the punch to create a treat of his own was at
the discourse of “Dr. Steelhammer’s” regular 1-2’s.

“Fast Eddie” attempted to counter but seemed to take himself out of range having tasted the champion’s power in the second round. AS each round passed the pattern of the fight became more entrenched Chambers finding himself on the operational end of Wladimir’s straight punches with little done in return.

Chambers fell into his usual defensive mode forcing a very boring event until in the eleventh round the champion finally committed and picked up the pace. Despite his defensive tendencies and the lack of a true heavyweight punch Chambers could not keep the pressing champion at bay.

At the start of the twelfth and final round the champion looked to close hard and all those straight jabs and rights finally cashed in setting up a winging left hook catching Chambers on the temple leaving him piled in the corner where referee Geno Rodriquez called it without a count at 2:55 of round 12.

Wladimir Klitschko successfully retained his three belts IBF, WBO and IBO advancing to 54-3, 48Ko’s and now awaits mandatory IBF challenger Alexander Povetkin, 19-0, 14Ko’s who holds a decicsion win over Chambers and like Chambers Ko wins came against a lower class of competition. Chambers collecting only his second loss dove to 35-2, 18Ko’s.

Prediction: Klitschko / Povetkin same result just sooner as Povetkin not as mobile and more willing to trade. A big mistake.

On the undercard: Detroit, Michigan heavyweight Johnathon Banks lulled, then put to sleep Florida’s Travis “Freight Train” Walker to win the vacant NABF Heavyweight Title. After five mostly boring inactive rounds Banks woke and surprised Walker with a solid left hook dropping Walker to the canvas with both fighters becoming entagled hitting the deck referee Daniel Van de Wiele called Banks fall a trip and called Walker unable to continue at 1:51 of the sixth round.
Banks advances to 24-1, 17Ko’s while Walker drops to 34-4-1, 28Ko’s.

Powell Plays Catch and Release Winning Title Eliminator,
Edwin Rodriguez Blows Out Armenta in One!

By: Coach "K"                                                                                                 March 19th, The Choctaw Gaming Center, Durant, Oklahoma: Sechew “Iron Horse” Powell, 25-2, 15Ko’s met Deandre “The Bull” Latimore, 20-3, 16Ko’s in a title eliminator. The fight a rematch of the June 2008 fight in which Powell suffered a seventh round Tko loss to Latimore, “The Iron Horse” the naturally bigger man over came being hurt in the fourth round remaining patient retreating, counter punching catching and releasing Latimore like a eco system friendly fisherman, causing swelling over Deandre “The Bull” Latimore’s right eye then throwing him back only to catch him again later with clean left hands again and again. Latimore came on in the end but fell short losing a 117-111, 114-114, 116-112 majority decision dropping to 20-3, 16Ko’s while giving Powell new life at 25-2, 16Ko’s.

On the undercard: Worcester, Massachusetts super middleweight prospect 24 year old Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez, a 2005 US Amateur middleweight champion and 2006 National Golden Gloves middleweight champion remained undefeated destroying Silver Spring Maryland’s, George “Rooster” Armenta, 13-6, 11Ko’s drilling “The Rooster” with a body shot forcing referee Gary Ritter to call the bout at 0:47 of the opening round advancing Rodriguez to 14-0, 10Ko’s.

Cleveland, Ohio’s junior welterweight Prenice Brewer remained undefeated using his superior hand speed inside and out winning a six round 58-56, 59-55 and 59-55 unanimous decision over Salt Lake City, Utah’s Chris “Kid Kayo” Fernandez. Fernandez who has been stopped by France’s Ali “Hurricane” Oubaali and Devon “The Great” Alexander” but going the distance with the likes of Nick Casal and Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi. Brewer moves to14-0-1, 6Ko’s while Fernandez drops to 18-9, 11Ko’s.

Brewer, 22 years old a 2005 National Golden Gloves featherweight champion and 2000 National PAL Champion reminds me of Glen cove, New York’s 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist Howard Davis Jr. Davis a quick, sharp technically sound fighter could never over come his lack of punching power keeping him from a world title. Davis, 36-6-1, 14Ko’s lost every time he stepped up fighting a top caliber puncher (Edwin Rosario, Joe Manley, an undefeated Hector Camacho, James “Buddy” McGirt and Dana Rosenblatt.

Joey "POLISH THUNDER" Dawejko Joins THE EMPIRE!

Every empire needs strong leaders for today, but it must also prepare its future emperors of tomorrow.

In 2010, Heavyweight Champions Shannon Briggs and Hasim Rahman, as well as soon-to-be middleweight king "Mean" Joe Greene sit atop boxing's new promotional powerhouse The Empire Sports and Entertainment as its marquee warriors.

But with an eye to future years, The Empire proudly announces the signing of undefeated heavyweight punisher Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko to a promotional contract.

Since enjoying a stellar amateur career that included winning the 2008 Junior World Championships at super heavyweight, the red-hot, 19-year-old Philadelphian has already notched two impressive wins as a professional (2-0, 1 KO). "Joey is a future heavyweight champion of the world and we're extremely proud to have signed him to a promotional agreement," said Empire Founder and CEO, Greg Cohen. "He's another in a long line of proud Polish-American heavyweights with an all-action style that fans will surely fall in love with."

The Empire affords its future emperors the finest training and guidance. Brian McGinley serves as trainer, while former undisputed and two-time heavyweight champion Rahman serves as co-manager (along with Damian Klinger). Rahman also spars frequently with Dawejko. Briggs and Dawejko will be sparring in the near future.

"Philadelphia is known as a city that produces some of the most exciting fighters in the world and Joey fits in perfectly with that reputation," continues Cohen. "He never stops bringing 'The Thunder'."

In his most recent ring appearance, Dawejko needed just 47 seconds to destroy previously unbeaten Ricardo Johnson in front of his hometown fans at the legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia.
