By: Alfred Zimmerman Cruiserweight Marco “Käpt’n” Huck made the fouth defense of his WBO Title blitzing challenger Providence, Rhode Islands Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey. Huck the stronger fighter was the aggressor finding Godfrey easy to find dropping him three times. Huck decked Godfrey the first time with a heavy right near the end of round two, the challenger got up at the count of four and was able to regroup between rounds.
In the third round Godfrey while being battered by Huck on the ropes hit the canvas again from what appeared to be a low blow.
In the fourth round Huck turned up the attack and Godfrey had no effective response to the “Käpt’ns” power.
The fifth round would prove to be anything but smooth for Godfrey with Huck’s power being too much for the challenger. Huck sent Godfrey to the canvas early the exited him from the ring for the second knockdown of the round. Huck wasted no time when the action resumed bombarding Godfrey with a volley of shots prompting referee Genaro Rodriguez to call it at 2:18 of round five.
Huck moves to 30-1, 23Ko’s as he awaites Sauerland Events cruiserweight Super Six-style tournament and a possible rematch with IBF Champion Steve Cunningham. Godfrey slips to 20-2, 10Ko’s.
