Tor Hamers! Ormond Storms, Algieri Impresses
and Bianconi Pulls a Rocky for Paulie!!!
Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions Plattdeutsche Park on July 18th
July 18th, Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions Boxing and Barbecue, The Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square, Long Island: Under a sun filled blue sky the afternoon of professional boxing and summer barbecue began with a pair of rough around the edges heavyweights, Brentwood, NY’s Jacques “The Haitian Warrior” Louis, 2-0, 0Ko’s and New York, NY’s Kimani “King Kong” Cunningham, 0-1. This fight was fought mostly on the inside with Cunningham backing Louis to the ropes and the two would bang away. Louis had some of his best moments on the ropes scoring with some good uppercuts and hooks. Conditioning was a factor with both fighters silently agreeing to take a breather in each of the four rounds. Both fighters held on with Louis taking a tight 38-37 times three unanimous decision. Both fighters need to hit the road hard.
Bout number two matched New York’s heavyweight Tor Hamer, 7-0, 6Ko’s meeting San Diego, California’s Marcus Dickerson, 4-2, 2Ko’s. Dickerson began to move early mostly trying to avoid Hamer but to his demise he backed to the corner by a stiff Tor jab which set up a Penn State educated right hand left hook dropping the west coast visitor for the count.

Next up Woodside, Queens, NY's middleweight Brian “Hitman” Hart, 0-1 met Ethiopia’s Fasika Bezabeh also 0-1. Hart started fast working his way in with a good jab that quickly turned into lead left hooks most of which landed cleanly to Bezabeh’s head. Hart then went to the body driving right hands to Bezabeh’s mid section.
The second round began with Hart banging Bezabeh around the ring with solid right hands to the head then backing him to corner dropping. Hart finished the job with three left hooks forcing referee Steve Willis to call a halt to the action at 2:06 seconds round two.

The fourth bout also in the middleweight division paired Glen Cove, NY’s Marcus Bianconi, 5-0, 5Ko’s with Bronx, NY’s Juan Zapata, 1-3, 1Ko. When the opening bell sounded Zapata came out flailing non stop with both hands. His punches were wide but heavy and appeared to catch Bianconi off guard with his wildness. In the second round Zapata again came out winging like a crashing helicopter at times throwing himself off balance. Bianconi still appeared a little disheveled got caught with a wild wide wing right dropping him to the canvas for an eight count.

(Bianconi playing "Rocky") (Burt Young and Paulie Malignaggi)
Opening the third round having been down and behind by two points Bianconi now looked composed and began throwing straight punches driving a couple of right hands through Zapata’s guard. Zapata still swinging wildly appeared to be tiring when to the delight of Burt Young (Paulie of Rocky fame) who was at ringside Bianconi in true Rocky fashion cornered Zapata then banged home a heavy right to the body followed by two more to the head as Zapata crashed and burned remaining on the canvas for several minutes until he was removed on a stretcher.

Bout number five featured light welterweight Issouf “Volcano” Kinda, 4-0, 2Ko’s against southpaw Fernando “The Whip” Basora, 8-5-1, 7Ko’s. The opening round had Kinda sticking away with a stiff jab keeping Basora off balance for most of the round. In the second round Kinda again went back to the jab until 0:55 of the round when he fainted his left jab and erupted with an explosive right hand dropping “The Whip” to the deck. Following referee Steve Willis eight count Kinda backed Basora to the ropes where he again erupted this time with a double digit unanswered volley all on target causing referee Willis to call the bout.

Bout six matched New York heavyweight and Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, Tor Hamer’s sparring partner making his pro debut against Winston, Salem, North Carolina’s Darius Whitson, 1-2, 0Ko’s. Miller carrying a forty plus pound weight advantage went right on the attack throwing jab right hand combo’s with Whitson firing back with wild right hooks from his southpaw stance. The fight was mysteriously stopped then announced Whitson did not respond to the doctor or referee’s questions between rounds causing the stoppage. Score it TKO round one.

To the delight of the large Irish contingent the semi main event’s Steve “The Irish Tornado” Ormond, 5-0, 1Ko from Dublin, Ireland entered the ring to the sound of bagpipes to battle Hyland, NY’s Israel “Macho” Suarez, 1-3, 0Ko’s in six rounds of lightweight action. The fight was fought at a solid pace with Ormond applying the pressure and Suarez a southpaw answering with some slick movement and counter right hooks.

Both fighters worked well on the inside attacking both the body and head. At the end of six Ormond’s work rate and aggressiveness scored him a 60-54, 58-56 times two unanimous decision.
The main event followed a ceremonial ten count salute to the passing of two of boxing greats Alexis Arguello and Arturo Gatti.

The eighth bout and main event showcased welterweight action matching Greenlawn, NY’s Chris Algieri, 9-0, 5Ko’s and Bronx New York’s, Jose “The Problem” Guzman, 5-6-1, 0Ko’s. Guzman a southpaw started boxing his movement allowed him to slip Algieri’s jab and counter with some right hooks. The second round saw Algieri picking up the pace pressuring Guzman who began to switch between a southpaw and orthodox stance. Algieri appeared to be measuring Guzman and found his distance in the third round dropping him twice with two thudding body shots.

Algieri technically sound was now beginning to break Guzman down banging him to the head and body with both hands. Guzman thwarted a brief attempt by his corner to stop the fight and remained game but the sharper Algieri took the young Puerto Rican fighter to task dominating the remaining rounds winning a unanimous six round decision 60-52 and 59-53 times two. Algieri continues to impress and handles himself and his sport as a gentleman true professional.
Another great boxing show from Bob Duffy and Ring Promotions. This time under a sunny blue sky with great food and music. Can't beat it with a stick!!!

Sostre Keeps State Title from Rainone,
Moore/Aguilera Back on Track,
Algieri/Rosinsky Stay Undefeated!
May 8th, Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions brought another night of top shelf boxing featuring New York’s Top Rising Stars to Plattduetsche Park Restaurant, Franklin Square, New York where the food was great and the show was action packed.
The audience included such boxing celebrities as Arthur Mercante Sr, Paulie Malignaggi, Lou Saverese, Sadam Ali and Maureen Shea all on hand to see a boxing show that landed top dead center.

The main event was an eight round New York State Welterweight Championship bout featuring “The Hudson Valley Kid” Daniel Sostre, 9-3, 3Ko’s making his first defense against Tommy “The Razor ” Rainone, 12-3, 4Ko’s. Sostre who won the vacant title beating Mike Ruiz, January 21st took some time to figure out the slick southpaw. At the urging of his trainer Tracy, Harris, Patterson, Sostre kept the pressure on and landed the cleaner heavier shots. The judge’s scores were announced 77-75 and 78-74 twice. I had it 77-75 with “The Razor” needing the last round to get a draw or win it big to squeeze it out but the game Rainone proved to be a worthy opponent some rounds “razor” thin only Rainone “ran” out of gas a little too soon.

The semi main event featured light middleweight James Moore 17-2, 10Ko’s taking on Joseph De los Santos, 4-4-3, 2Ko’s in a comeback fight off his unanimous decision loss to Yuri Foreman in December. Moore needed a win, not a walk over. He needed a fight and to be tested and that’s what he got. Moore used his jab well doubling and tripling it early setting up his looping right hand but the usual concentrated body attack was missing. Moore controlled most of the action but De los Santos made it a fight coming on hard in the final two rounds of the scheduled six rounder. De los Santos began reaching Moore’s body hard in the fifth and took the attack upstairs in the sixth but the rugged Irishman banged back closing the fight to the cheers of his adoring fans. The fight was scored 58-56 times three.

Heavyweight action had Nagy Aguilera, 12-1, 8Ko’s shutting out Jermell “The Truth” Barnes, 18-20-2, 4Ko’s. Dynamite’s hand and foot speed was too much for the tough Barnes who’s only success was sporadically banging away to the body to the inside. Aguilera’s jab and combination punching was just too much for the “Truth” who came to fight but was constantly beaten to the punch. “Dominican Dynamite” got back on the winning track when the judges scores were announced 60-54 on all three cards.

Queens, light heavyweight Will “Will Power” Rosinsky, 7-0, 6Ko’s stayed undefeated but this one went the distance. Rosinsky battled Philadelphia’s Andre “Da Heat” Hemphill, 7-10-2, 4Ko’s suffering a flash knockdown when he squared up stepping up with his right foot walking into a stiff jab that caught him off balance. With only his ego hurt Rosinsky began his patented body assault banging the round even. Rosinsky continued his determined body attack digging his left hook to “Da Heats” body and scoring upstairs with straight rights. Rosinsky went on to bang out Hemphill’s will systematically banging to the body earning a unanimous decision by the scores 58-55 and 59-55 times two. I scored it 59-55 giving round one 10-9 not 10-8, all Will.

Undefeated welterweight Chris Algieri, 6-0, 3Ko’s remained undefeated stopping southpaw Eric “El Negrito” Rodriguez, 4-4, 2Ko’s by Tko when referee Mercante stopped the fight at the end of round three Rodriguez had suffered a broken nose. Algieri pressured Rodriguez early plodding in behing a tight and high defense. After a one round feeling out process Algieri began to land big right hands behind a sharp jab while banging “El Negrito’s” body with the hook. At the close of the third round Algerieri persuaded Rodriguez firing a seven punch combination landing a heavy right to Rodriguez nose leading to the stoppage.

In four round action middleweight Marcus Bianconi, 3-0, 3Ko’s blasted out Emanuel Brugan making his pro debut with an all out two handed assault to the body and head punctuating it with a viscious left hook causing referee Chiarantano to step in and stop the slaughter.

Florida’s heavyweight Kasim Howard, 8-0, 4Ko’s out jabbed and outlasted Brooklyn’s a moving lunging Mazur Ali, 6-2, 3Ko’s winninmg a unanimous decision.
The evening concluded with the exiting announcement of Ring Promotions new boxing twist a boxing barbecue show to be held at the Plattduetsche Park Restaurant July 18th. Be there or be square. Get your tickets early. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________

By: Rich Neary
January 23rd, 2009 Huntington, New York: Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions together with Frankie G Productions brought another night of Havoc to the Huntington Hilton Hotel, Melville, NY.
The “Havoc” took place before a sold out crowd filled with boxing stars like Emile Griffith, Iran “The Blade” Barkley, Luis Collazo, and Plainview NY’s Kathy “Wildcat” Collins along with music and movie star LL Cool J who was on hand to enjoy the action.
The boxing show featured Long Islands Mike Ruiz 8-3, 6 Ko’s of Titans Gym in Merrick versus Tracy Harris Patterson trained Daniel Sostre 8-3, 3 Ko’s in the main event. Ruiz the stronger of the two attacked the body early but Sostre used his jab to create openings in the later rounds landing some clean combinations. Both fighters traded grins, snarles and smiles along with their punches. The judges cards reading 76-76 and 77-75 twice for Sostre winning a majority decision.
Here at SBB we had it a draw.
The semi main event featured George “Blaze” Walton, 19-3 12 Ko’s taking on Bronx NY’s Jose “Silver Boy” Rodriguez, 12-1, 2Ko’s for the vacant New York State Middleweight title. In the typical boxer puncher battle the heavier punching Walton had his hands full. Rodriguez a slick counter punching southpaw kept Walton off balance and landed well with his uppercuts on the inside. The fight was action packed with Walton landing the heavier shots and Rodriguez usually quick to answer. It was a battle of styles but Rodriguez wore the markings of the battle as the judges score cards were read Tony Paolillo 74-78, Kevin Morgan 74-78 and John McKaie 75-77 all for Walton the new New York State Middleweight Champion.
In light heavyweight Richmond Hill’s highly touted Will “Will Power” Rosinsky 178, 5-0, 5 Ko’s used a poised calculated attack to stop Philadelphia’s Zeferino Albino, 3-8-2, 1 Ko. Zeferino survived the early attack but finally “Got all of Will” when after being pounded in the corner he collapsed causing referee Ricky Gonzalez to call the action at 1:43 of round three of the scheduled four rounder.
In lightweight action Bayshore’s Joseph Llovett out flanked Wyandanch’s Luquan Lewis, 0-1, initial assault turning it around and pressed the action outscoring Lewis winning a shutout 40-36 on all judges cards.
In the cruiserweight division four time national champion Adam “The Bellport Kid” Willett, joined fellow national teammate Will Rosinsky in the win column turning in a solid pro debut. Willett exhibited a solid body attack and an educated uppercut winning a unanimous decision over Hempstead, LI’s tough experienced veteran Andrew Hutchinson a veteran of 14 pro bouts.
Issouf Kinda, 2-0, 1 Ko outclassed the tough Pablo Tejada, 3-9-1, 1 Ko using a sharp right hand for most of the fight earning a 40-36, 40-35, 40-35 unanimous decision.
In middleweight action Juan Zapata, 1-2, 1 Ko didn’t let Mike O’Connor 1-0, 1 Ko get started when he drove two straight rights through the gloves of the taller O’Connor dropping him to the canvas. The game O’Connor got vertical only to become the receiving end of a Zapata barrage which caused referre Claudio to call the bout when O’Connor’s corner climbed the ring apron.
Lightweight Emmanuel Gonzalez, 2-0 , 2 Ko’s dropped Alex Cooper making his pro debut three times in the opening round forcing referee Wayne Kelly to stop the fight 1:43 of round one of their schedule four rounder.
All in all it was an evening of well matched boxing leaving the soldout show clamoring for Havoc III.

Rosinsky Leads Wolak, Madison and Algieri
In Havoc at the Hilton
(Will"Powers" Past Ciccone)
By: Coach “K”
September 26th, the Huntington Hilton, Huntington, New York: Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions brought a night of Havoc to Long Island. Duffy and matchmaker Frank Mullen put together an entertaining fight card comprised of many of New York’s top prospects.

(Samir pounds Hutchinson)
Cruiserweight action opened the show with Ahmed Samir 2-0, facing Andrew Hutchinson 2-9-2, both missing a Ko on their record. The evenly matched fight saw Samir the stronger bigger man pressing the action. Hutchinson was rocked by several Samir looping right hands losing his tenth by the scores 40-36 and 39-37 twice.

(Karaolides impresses in debut)
The second prelim matched middleweights Rakeem Carter 0-4-3, taking on highly touted prospect Lambros Karaolides making his pro debut. Karaolides came out charging at the opening bell pressing the action, forcing the more experienced Carter to move. As the round progressed and Karaolides jab and right hands began to land Carter’s movement fell just short of a track and field 220. Karaolides tuned his attack to the body slowing and stopping Carter with a solid 1-2 at 2:47 of the first round. The chaos had started.
In six round action Long Island favorite Tommy “The Razor” Rainone 11-1-0, 3 Ko’s was looking to get back on the winning track against Cleveland, Ohio’s Henry White 2-2-1,2 Ko’s. Rainone usually the slick moving counter puncher started slow with White establishing his jab early. “The Razor” got on track in the second round landing his straight left from his southpaw stance. The action turned rough in the third with some late punches and the two exchanged glares and words as well as punches. The rough play seemed to inspire White who turned the fight back in his favor with a good body attack and clean right hands off the jab. The crowd seemed to think the fight was close going into the sixth and final round but White settled it with clean scoring power punches pinning “The Razor” on the ropes several times. Rainone who must have thought he had the fight in the bag finally turned it up at the ten second warning. Havoc had hit the Hilton hard when the judges scores were announced giving white a split decision victory and Rainone his second straight loss. SBB had the fight 59- 55, White with the fourth being scored even.

(Algieri dominates Smith)
Welterweight, Chris Algieri 3-0, 2 Ko’s kept the “Havoc” in full gear destroying Clarence Smith 0-1-0, with pressure and some sharp combination punching from the opening bell punctuated by an loaded overhand right ending the fight at 2:07 of round one.
Four time New York Golden Glove winner Will Rosinsky 1-0, 1 Ko brought the crowd to their feet before he intimidated and inihilated New Jersey’s light heavyweight Michael Ciccone 1-4. Rosinsky’s assault showcased his superior skills, determination and experience leaving Ciccone on his back after taking several sharp combinations highlighted by hooks to the body planting the Jersey warrior in his back for the count forcing referee Tony Chiarantano to stop the beating at 2:07 of round one.

(Madison cool and precise over McKnight)
In the semi-main event Central Islip New York’s Darrell “King David” Madison 11-1(dq), 3 Ko’s the New York State Heavyweight Champion remained cool when he was made to wait almost 15 minutes in the ring for Wyandanch’s Elfair “The Wyandanch Warrior” McKnight. After finally entering the ring McKnight began his staring psych game while holding up the action waiting for a mouthpiece. When the action finally started the imperturbable Madison used a radar locked jab and tight defense to have his way with the “Wyandanch Warrior” and his psych game. Madison also mixed it up showing he can rumble inside when needed hurting McKnight with several uppercuts. Here at SBB we scored it a shutout for Madison. “King David” is looking to take it to the next level and face off with amateur rival and fellow Long Islander Patchogue Medford’s favorite son Derrick Rossy. Rumors are dollars and cents are the only thing keeping these rivals apart. Madison the reigning NY State Champ should receive his fare share of the purse so who ever holds the purse strings reach deeper in your pocket as this is a sure winner and a fight that loyal Long Island fight fans dare waiting for and deserve.

(Wolak back to winning ways)
Duffy and Mullen put Pawel “The Raging Bull” Wolak 21-1, 14 Ko’s back in the ring after his tough controversial loss to Ishe Smith against cagy veteran Chad Geenleaf 10-10-1, 4 Ko’s. Greenleaf who been in with several tough contenders like James Moore, Jesse Nicklow and Jimmy Lange could not hold up to the “Hitman” like pressure caving in the third round of their scheduled eight rounder. Wolak chased and pounded Greenleaf, finally pinning him against the ropes landing at will causing referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to call the action at 2:40 of round three.
