Rodriguez against Diaz for vacant USBA Welterweight Title!

Star Boxing's Top Welterweight Delvin Rodriguez Takes on Oscar Diaz for the Vacant USBA Welterweight Title!
2008 Former USBA Welterweight Champion Delvin Rodriguez (22-2-1 13 KO's) looks to extend his most recent winning streak and also reclaim his belt, when he takes on tough and exciting Oscar Diaz (26-2 12 KO's) for the vacant USBA Welterweight Championship. The fight, which will take place on July 16th 2008 at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, TX, will be the main event for that evening's ESPN2's "Wednesday Night Fights" broadcast.
Both Rodriguez and Diaz are coming off very impressive showings in their previous bouts. In Rodriguez's last fight, which was televised by ESPN2 from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, he thoroughly dominated previously unbeaten Troy Browning (20-1-1 8 KO's). In what many felt was one of his best performance to date, Rodriguez nearly pitched a shut out over the game Browning, winning by scores of 100-90, 100-90, 99-91. Rodriguez, known for having knockout power in both hands, showed that he is by no means a one dimensional fighter. Continuously throughout the night Delvin was able to use his crisp jab from the outside and easily outbox and outwork Browning. Just when it appeared Delvin was not looking to mix it up and exchange, he would fire off a four-five punch combination, bringing the roaring hometown crowd to their feet.
Diaz was last seen in action on May 30th 2008 in an 8 round contest against tough power punching veteran Roberto Valenzuela (44-37-2 37 KO's). Although it was Diaz's first fight in almost a year, he did not seem to gather any ring rust during his time away. He easily outboxed and was able to repeatedly beat Valenzuela to the punch for almost the entire night, winning by scores of 80-72, 80-72, 79-72. Stylistically both fighters are very similar. They are both tall Welterweights, that like to box, but also enjoy mixing it up and exchanging in close quarters. While there are no guarantees in boxing, come July 16th, fight fans can bet on seeing an exciting, all action packed fight, pitting two warriors against one another, giving it their all to come out victorious.
As if the main event wasn't exciting enough, there will also be a world class undercard featuring: Terrance "The Heat" Cauthen (32-4 9KO's) vs Alexis Camacho (16-0 15 KO's) and many more top fights to in support. A complete list of the undercard will be announced shortly.

Cauthen Looks to Bring the Heat vs. Camacho
and Put Himself Back in Contention!

Terrance "The Heat" Cauthen (32-4 9KO's) looks to get back on track and put himself back into world title contention when he takes on the dangerous up and coming knockout artist Alexis Camacho (16-0 15 KO's) on July 16th from the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio, TX. The Cauthen v Camacho fight will be the ESPN2's "Wednesday Night Fights" 10-round co- feature to the Delvin Rodriguez v Oscar Diaz fight for the vacant USBA Welterweight Championship.
Cauthen, the current USBA Jr. Middleweight Champion, and former NABA and NABF Jr. Welterweight Champion, is coming down in weight to fight at Welterweight after spending the past three plus years campaigning at Jr. Middleweight. The southpaw Cauthen feels that he is best at the 147 lb. limit and is ready to make a push towards a world title in the extremely exciting division. The 1996 U.S. Olympic Bronze Medalist, feels that this is not only a great opportunity get back to his winning ways, but also a chance to once again showcase he is still one of the top fighters in the world, particularly in the welterweight division.
Camacho, although against limited opposition, has looked impressive each time out steam rolling through his competition. Since his professional debut, Camacho has gone on to knockout everyone that's been put in front of him, including 14 of his opponents in three rounds or less. This is a huge step up for the 27 year old Mexican native, now fighting out of and living in Austin, Texas. It will be the first time Camacho will be fighting on National T.V. and a chance for him to live up to his hype and prove that he is the real thing.
"What an exciting night of boxing it's going to be on the 16th," stated Star Boxing CEO and founder Joe DeGuardia. "Both the co-feature between Terrance and Alexis and the main event between Delvin and Oscar have the potential to be fight of the year type matches. Terrance is coming back down in weight to campaign at Welterweight and I honestly believe it's the best thing for him. This is a true crossroads battle as you have two fighters who are both looking to prove that they belong among the elite in the hot Welterweight division. We expect San Antonio to be rocking on the 16th and we are very excited how the card is shaping up so far," said DeGuardia.

Joval Takes on McGirt Jr. in True Crossroads Battle!
Star Boxing's Middleweight Raymond Joval
Set To Go Battle James McGirt Jr.
Bronx, NY - Jun 18, 2008 Former IBO Middleweight Champion of the world Raymond Joval (37-4 16 KO's) will face off against rising prospect James "Buddy" McGirt Jr. (18-1 9 KO's) on July 25th at the City Center in Saratoga Springs, NY in the 10-round main event. The fight which will be aired on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights," will also mark the opening week of the 2008 Saratoga Race Track Season. This will be the fourth annual, "Night of Future Champions," card held in Saratoga Springs.
After taking a two year layoff from the sport, Joval returned in 2007 and seems to have come back better than ever. Since teaming up with trainer Tracy Patterson, and promoter Joe DeGuardia, Joval has gone 2-0 with two dominating performances over Willie Gibbs (20-3 16 KO's) and Alban Mothie (28-17 8 KO's). Joval looks to continue his winning ways when he takes on tough up and coming prospect, James "Buddy" McGirt Jr. McGirt Jr., who is trained by his father, former world title holder, James "Buddy" McGirt, is coming off his first professional defeat at the hands of Carlos De Leon Jr. back on April 11th. McGirt was actually winning the fight (even scoring a knockdown in the 6th) when he got caught early in the 7th and eventually was stopped later on in the round. Joval v McGirt Jr. is truly a crossroads battle as neither fighter can afford another loss on their record at this stage in their career. Joval has proven over the years that he belongs in the elite of the Middleweight division. McGirt Jr., who is only 25, knows that another loss severely damages his chances at making a run towards Middleweight supremacy. Joval v McGirt Jr., stylistically and on paper, stands to be one of the most exciting matchups to hit the Capital District in recent memory, as both fighters like to come forward and throw lots of punches.
The "Night of Future Champions" is being presented by Pugnacious Promotions, in association with Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment. Star Boxing's president and founder Joe DeGuardia is thrilled to be back to the Capital District. "There is nothing like the atmosphere of the Saratoga area during race season. We are very excited to once again be a part of this annual show. We feel that Raymond is ready to make a push towards a Middleweight Championship and expect a fantastic showing from him on July 25th," stated DeGuardia.
Tickets ranging from $40 to $125 are available through Star Boxing, www.starboxing.com, or by calling 718-823-2000.

Tsurkan Scores Career Best Victory!

Bronx, NY - Apr 26, 2008 Ukranian born and Bronx resident Andrey Tsurkan (26-3 17KO) scored the biggest win of his career Friday night as he outgunned fellow tough guy Jesse Feliciano (15-7-3 9KO), scoring a TKO at 1:17 in the eighth round of a scheduled ten round Jr. Middleweight contest, at The Utopia Paradise Theatre in The Bronx, NY. The fight was televised live on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
The fight was as advertised, with both guys locking horns right from the opening bell. Both styles were mirror images of each other as the fighters stood at close quarters trading freely. Tsurkan landed a picture perfect right hand late in the round which dropped Feliciano for a short count and then followed up with crisp combinations which had Feliciano on rubber legs as the bell sounded ending the round. Feliciano came out strong in round two as the fighters once again engaged each other, both landing big shots. The fight went back and forth but it was clear that Tsurkan's punches were cleaner and crisper but Feliciano would always try and answer. As the fight entered the eighth round, it seemed Tsurkan had built a clear lead.
Midway through the round, with Feliciano refusing to take a step backwards and Tsurkan landing heavy and damaging blows, referee Benji Esteves called a halt to the fight as Feliciano was taking a lot of punishment due to Tsurkan's relentless assault. Everyone applauded Esteves' decision in stopping the fight, as Tsurkan was certainly inflicting damage on the game Feliciano, who has proven time and time again what a real warrior he is. This was a thrilling crowd pleasing brawl which had the fans in attendance on their feet throughout.
The semi-final eight round Heavyweight contest saw Poland's Albert Sosnowski improve to 43-1 (26 KO) with a fifth round stoppage of game Terrell "Baby Bull" Nelson (8-5 5KO). Sosnowski was making his American television debut. Albert showed poise throughout as he withstood an early assault from Nelson. Sosnowski landed the more telling blows as both fighters set a good pace. Sosnowski landed a beautiful right uppercut followed by a clean left hook which dropped Nelson in the fifth round. The end was in sight as Nelson arose and fought back bravely but referee Wayne Kelly stopped the fight at 0:52 of the fifth as Sosnowski landed numerous clean punches.
Undercard action was plentiful. The evening started off with Heavyweights Joe Hanks (2-0 1KO) and Corey Winfield (2-4 2KO) locking up in an entertaining four round bout won by Hanks 40-36,39-37 39- 37.
The second bout of the evening featured Middleweights Bryant Pappas (6-0 6KO) and Mike Terry (1-3 1KO). Both fighters came out swinging for the fences but Pappas' persistence paid off as he stopped the game Terry midway through the third round of a scheduled four round bout. In a wild four round Featherweight contest Eddie Irizarry (2-0 1KO) thrilled his large contingent of fans stopping Jean Ramos (0-1) at the end of the first round. The action was frenetic from the opening bell. Irizarry dropped Ramos with a neat left- right combination but Ramos came back firing as he caught Irizarry with a huge left hook staggering into the ropes. Irizarry came right back and landed monster shots as Ramos went down again near the end of round and was unable to continue as the bell sounded ending round one. This one had the fans going wild.
In an upset Clarence Moore (5-3-1 5KO) avenged an earlier loss to hometown favorite Jon Schneider (7-2-1 5KO) knocking out Schneider at 2:48 of round two of a scheduled four round Cruiserweight bout. Schneider was impressive early but walked into short uppercut followed by a left hook which stunned him badly. Moore seized the opportunity and landed a vicious uppercut which put Schneider on the deck for the count.
Hot Welterweight prospect Raymond Serrano Jr. (5-0 3KO) won a hard fought four decision over journeyman Damon Antoine (7-24-1 3KO). Serrano, just 18 years old, displayed poise and sharp punching over the course of the fight winning by scores of 40-36,40- 36, 39-37. The nearly sold out crowd was treated to a highly entertaining, action filled evening of boxing. Star Boxing head honcho Joe DeGuardia was thrilled by the evening's fights. "This was a throwback to the glory days of boxing. Each fighter who participated tonight came to fight and tried to win. I am very proud of the performances they gave all of us in attendance and those who watched on ESPN2."

JOHNSON AND ROBINSON
ARE VICTORIOUS!

Bronx, NY - Apr 22, 2008 - UNDEFEATED #9 WBA Heavyweight, Kevin "Kingpin" Johnson (19-0-1, 6KO's), stepped up his game on Friday night, scoring a unanimous 10 round decision, 97-93 (twice), 96-94, over a very game and tough Terry Smith (30-5-1, 18KO's), telecast live on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Johnson kept Smith at the end of his razor sharp jab, and used his lightening speed and power to systematically break down the once highly touted Smith. Smith kept the pressure on all night but Johnson was able to avoid most of his power shots while picking Smith apart. The charismatic New Jersey native has steadily climbed the Heavyweight ladder and continues to dominate his opponents. Johnson has impressed Hall of Fame trainer and ESPN2 analyst Teddy Atlas, "A little bit of an Ali look- alike, maybe a little bit of a Holmes look-alike" said the long time TV commentator. Atlas went on to say that Johnson has "been in with some decent fighters, hasn't been in soft, has fought some good quality fighters".
Back East, in another bout featuring a Star Boxing fighter, Welterweight prospect, "The New" Ray Robinson (8-0, 3KO's) made his hometown debut Friday night at the National Guard Armory in Philadelphia. The UNDEFEATED Robinson was sensational against tough Jason Jordan dominating the fight at every turn. Robinson dropped Jordan four times in route to winning a lopsided 4 round decision. "I am pleased with the performances of Johnson and Robinson," said Star Boxing's Joe DeGuardia, "They both have championship potential." Star Boxing Announces
Stars Shine Brightly at Mohegun Sun!
Bronx, NY - Feb 18, 2008 Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presented another entertaining evening of fights Friday night from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The fights were telecast live on ESPN2's popular "Friday Night Fights" boxing series.
Headling the seven bout card was exciting Danbury, CT welterweight Delvin Rodriguez (22-2-1, 13KO's) taking on the previously unbeaten Philly veteran Troy Browning (20-1-1, 8KO's) Right from the start one could see that Rodriguez' longer reach and faster hands were to cause a problem for Browning as Delvin fired off beautiful combinations throughout. Rodriguez moved deftly around the ring as Browning stood his ground trying to work his way inside. Although in command all night, Rodriguez was forced to work very hard by the ever-trying Browning. Browning had his best moments of the fight in the fifth round landing several clean combinations to the head of Rodriguez. It might have been the only round Browning won over the ten rounds nonetheless he never stopped trying and made for an entertaining fight. The scoring was unanimous, 100-90 on two cards, 99-91 on the third all for Rodriguez in a very impressive all around effort. "This was truly a night of electrifying fights for the many fans in attendance and the ESPN viewing audience.
It is exactly what Star Boxing prides ourselves on; showcasing hot, up and coming talented prospects in exciting bouts. I am extremely proud of all of the performances tonight." said promoter Joe DeGuardia. The semi-final 10 round bout featured two European Jr. Welterweights making their US television debuts. French Moroccan Ali "The Hurricane" Oubaali (21-3-0, 17KO's) and England's Ashley Theophane (20-3-1, 7KO's) hooked up in what was a major step up in class for each fighter. Oubaali started out the stronger of the two as Theophane chose to circle the ring in round one while Oubaali tried to figure out a way to cut him off. Theophane settled down a bit in round two, which allowed Oubaali to land some big shots, but was back on the bicycle at the start of round three. Round four saw a dramatic change in the strategy of Theophane as he stood his ground and fought with Oubaali behind a very effective jab and lead right hands. Round five saw Theophane score many clean shots to the head of Oubaali as both fighters traded freely. Round six began with Oubaali regaining control as he worked the body and head of Theophane effectively but at around a minute into the round Oubaali walked into a left hook by Theophane dropping him on the seat of his pants. It was a flash knockdown but nevertheless it gave Theophane some momentum, which didn't last very long. Oubaali came back from the knockdown like a house on fire and had Theophane reeling as the bell ended the round. Rounds seven and eight had the crowd on their feet as the two fighters stood toe to toe at times, both landing clean, hard shots. Oubaali seemed to get the better of the two way action punctuated by a tremendous right hand in round eight, which sent Theophane's mouthpiece flying, landing in the lap of ESPN2 blow-by-blow commentator Joe Tessitore. As a timeout was called to replace the mouthpiece, ringside physician Dr. Tony Alessi took a long look at Theophane but eventually decided to allow the fight to continue much to crowd's delight. Sensing the urgency, Theophane tore after Oubaali for the remainder of the round and continued his torrid pace in the ninth, trying to close the gap. Oubaali went back to work in the final round but to his credit Theophane stood his ground right to the end as both fighters received a standing ovation from the crowd. Scores were unanimous, 96-93 twice, and 97-92, all for the exciting Ali Oubaali.
The undercard produced plenty of fireworks as Star Boxing showcased some of their young, new talent. All three Star Boxing prospects, Welterweight Ray Robinson (7-0-0, 3KO's), Light Heavyweight Yathomas Riley (1-0-0, 1KO), and Welterweight Raymond Serrano Jr (3- 0-0, 2KO) were most impressive as all three scored knockout wins.
Robinson destroyed normally durable and tough local fighter Shakha Moore in the first round of scheduled six round bout. Robinson showed awesome power and fast hands as he overwhelmed Moore forcing the ref to bring a halt a .30 seconds of the first round. National Golden Glove champion Yathomas Riley made his professional debut against a very game and determined Borngod Washington. Riley fought at an aggressive and fast pace with Washington trying to fight back. The pace and action continued over the next round and into the third when suddenly a sweeping left hook thrown by Washington seemed to catch Riley as he was off balance putting him on the canvas. Riley protested explaining to the ref that their feet go tangled up which caused the knockdown. This only made Riley angrier as he tore after Washington for the remainder of the round. Washington was bloodied and swollen but fought on as the bell sounded for the fourth and final round. Riley continued to pummel him until finally the referee mercifully stopped the bout at .58 seconds of the fourth round.
In what may have been the most impressive showing of the night, Raymond Serrano Jr scored a 1st round TKO over unbeaten Ashanti Hendrickson in a bout scheduled for 4. Both fighters had extensive amateur backgrounds but it was Serrano who tore after Hendrickson as the bell sounded starting round one. A devastating right hand early by Serrano wobbled Hendrickson and Serrano was relentless until the referee stopped the action at .22 seconds of the first round.
Two local products completed the card as Jr Welterweight Eddie Soto (9-0-0, 4KO's) remained undefeated squeaking out what many considered a questionable majority decision over hard luck loser Jason Jordan.
In a bout which featured two undefeated fighters, Light Heavy Brian Macy (2-0-0, 1KO) won a 4 round decision over Oliver Musampa (1-1-0,1KO). Highly thought of Light Heavyweight YaThomas Riley who won the National PAL and the Golden Gloves Championships in 2006 is turning pro after a stellar amateur career. After a chance meeting with his boxing idol former IBF World Champion Glen Johnson. Riley was invited to spar with Johnson for his fight against Hugo Pineda, and has been a part of team Johnson ever since. "When I saw him in the ring I knew he was special, he has one of the most powerful punches I have ever seen or felt, his skill level is incredible, I believe Riley has what it takes to be a champion". said Johnson. It's now time for his young nephew who is trained by his father Ramon Serrano to take over the family business and get to the business of working his way up through the ranks, with the guidance of Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing. This mild mannered young standout will undoubtedly become a champion. "They say lightening doesn't strike twice, well it did for Star Boxing, we are very pleased to be able to bring these two standout young men into the fold of Star Boxing." said Joe DeGuardia.
